I recently ordered insulin from Mark's Marine (canshipmeds.com) and when I was on the phone trying to order Lantus pens the guy said "hey why not get the generic equivalent, it's the same thing and cheaper"

so I said ok. Well now that my order has shipped I was doing some research and finding things on the internet that say you cannot substitute Basaglar for Lantus. If this is true the 5 pens on their way to me are of no use to Hendrick and I've just wasted $169. Although I fault the rep on the phone a little for pushing the generic if indeed it is not truly interchangeable.

@Wendy&Neko @Bandit's Mom @tiffmaxee any idea if ok to use?

I've been reading a bunch of old threads and it does seem like a lot of people use it, but I'm not sure about starting with Lantus and then switching to Basaglar, that seems a little less common and not much posted about it that I can find. A member (China? I think) did a trial of switching, back in 2017 I think it was, and found the depot seemed to need to reset as if doing a dose change. That makes me nervous.

I don't want to do anything to impede Hendrick's progress he is just coming along now and getting somewhere! And just to save about $40? Not worth it. Of course now I'm going to be out much more than that unless Mark's Marine helps me out.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I'm probably just paranoid and it would be fine to switch. But I do not think I'm going to do so, because I really have no reason to. I'll keep the Basaglar on hand as a backup or give it away, but I'm going to stick with Lantus.

China was tightly regulated, so any blip would have been noticed. It wasn’t much of a blip.

Yeah, it really was a big nothing.

Paranoid? Maybe a little but when it comes to our sugarcats, I totally understand! I just want to assure you that you really can switch. I was totally scared to death to try it because China was so tightly regulated (and a lot of people thought I was nuts for trying it) but I also realized that if it was going to act differently, it would show up in her numbers. Feel free to check out her spreadsheet from April 1, 2017 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...fYnBXsn4CMEYcHC9xhNbYWHQyA/edit#gid=926513324

Looks like action tonight! :D

depot probably still in play though so can't really say its the 2.5u I don't think?

PM cycle tonight is 6th cycle on new dose but also, might have been a partial fur shot yesterday PM

yeah there's no doubt that for China it made virtually no difference. I really think I'm overeacting but it's ok, I'm going to err on the side of caution and stay with Lantus. I'll donate the Basaglar, surely some local group can make use of it
