????? See later post for questions.

Good morning,

It's a btb morning. Shasta is chowing down on her breffis...but she really wants to be sitting on my lap. We are headed back to bed shortly. Very tired bean with scratchy throat and running/stuffy nose. Its cold enough in my house that I'm getting lots of snuggles this morning...so I prefer to be there right now. I'll be back later with a better report. For now...it's bedtime!

Blessings!

Morning Deborah ~O) ~O) ~O)

Nice amps for Shasta. It is nice to read too that breffis is a winner and there is a chowdown in progress. :-D

I hope you feel better too as the day moves on. Enjoy that BTB, and the snuggle time.

Re: 3/3 Shasta AMPS=215

Good morning, Deborah.
It sounds like the perfect morning for btb.
I hope you wake up feeling a little better!

Good afternoon all,

My little Shasta has barely left my lap all day. In fact, she keeps getting really ticked at me when I need to get up and fix lunch or use the restroom or just shift my weight! Silly girl. Getting in lots of love before tomorrow. She's been showing good numbers today, but they're a little too good. Her appy has been ok...like I said, she'd rather be in my lap than eating.

Ok, tomorrow morning, I drop her off at the vet's at 8am. She'll be sedated for blood work and possibly an x-ray. Biggest fear - sedation dose is too high for her heart problems and she doesn't come out of sedation. Is (are) there other tests that I should personally request that wouldn't be run in a normal batch of blood tests? I worry about stuff like renal failure, UTI, etc. Would those show up in regular blood work?

(((Deborah))))

Sending you healing vines and good vetty vines for Shasta tomorrow.

There are different kinds of blood tests that vets run. Some of them have an abbreviated panel for anesthesia (a pre-anesthesia screening). Since you are having blood work done to check things over, I'd ask for a Super Chem/CBC and, if you want, add on a total T4 and free T4 by ED. If they do a Senior Panel, it will include a tT4 but not all of the SuperChem stuff and it doesn't usually do the fT4 by ED. A SuperChem will look at all the renal values plus potassium, phosphorus, calcium and the electrolytes. The CBC will look at hematocrit and hemoglobin as well as all the different types of white blood cells which might be an indicator of infection if they are elevated. If you want them to check urine, that would be extra and if they are going to do it, you might as well have cystocentesis done if you are worried about a UTI for any reason. If you don't suspect any UTI issues, just have them get a urine sample by expressing her bladder (if possible) just to check pH, urine specific gravity, etc.

Oh Marje, how in the world do you know all of this?! Are you a vet in your spare time?!?! :-D They are not doing a pre-anesthesia screening because of her temperament...which makes me 10x more nervous. I will ask them what tests they are going to run and ask them about all the ones that you suggested. I have no reason to suspect UTI, but after last weekend's poo debacle and her pee piles ranging in size (small to medium) and her increase water intake...I just didn't know what other "diseases" to look at...renal failure being the one I think I fear the most. Thank you for all of this information (granted, most of it is over my head!)

Good luck tomorrow and please keep us posted. I want to soothe your concerns about kidney disease. If you catch it early, you can keep them stable for a long time. When you get the results, post and we will help you sort through it.

Hugs!

Sending good vetty vines to Shasta! Hope the visits go smooth & a good clean report afterwards.
