The 1u doses pushed him down a little, so I decided that 192 was close enough to 200 that I could continue to be a little aggressive. With another storm keeping me in, I'll be around to monitor and observe. He seems fine -- had a popsicle around 4am but wasn't ravenous at AMPS...even ate a tad bit less than put out. (Good, because he needs to lose weight!)

If you think this is the wrong (or not-so-good) direction, let me know. Still learning.

BTY....I checked out the HEALTH forum last evening, but I didn't see any Newbie who needed my level of support (hand holding, primarily). Everyone out there had specific concerns which really required your expertise. I'll check again today. But, if you notice someone that I could help, please send me in that direction. I can explain about giving shots, low-carb food and making a SS.

Re: 3/4 FRED AM=192(1)

Great dose choice this am, Kathleen. You are Fred and doing so well!

Watch for one that has "Overwhelmed, scared or terrified" in the subject line. Just telling them you felt the same way a couple weeks ago and now you are tesing and figuring out the dosing on your own will mean so much.

I second this!

You're doing a great job being a bit more "aggressive" with Fred's dose. It's really all about experimentation (within reason, of course), and seeing what works best!

Re: 3/3 FRED AM=192(1);+4=149;+7=176

A lot of times, I do nothing but 'cheerleading'. You don't have to know the answer, just be there to tell them it will be ok or that they are doing a good job. Does wonders. :-D

Re: 3/3 FRED AM=192(1);+4=149;+7=176

Well, that's all I can do at this point, because I 'm still learning myself. But, I remember, when the vet sent me home on New Year's Eve weekend with a vile of insulin, and a handful of syringes and no more than 5 minutes of instruction. It was the best advice she ever gave me ...... because it led me to this site!!

BTW... How much of an effect does low carb food have on the BG level? Some days Fred is starving - like today. I don't want to overdo the snacks and upset the work the insulin is doing. What's the best answer?

Re: 3/3 FRED AM=192(1);+4=149;+7=176;+10=312

Will someone please tell me what just happened at +10. We were doing great. Then he zoomed up! Was it the snack at +7 or the AM shot wearing off? It doesn't make sense to me and I don't know how to help regulate these kinds of numbers. confused_cat

Re: 3/3 FRED AM=192(1);+4=149;+7=176;+10=312

I don't know what happened. That is a bit of a surprise. But it could be anything - he got stressed about something, he has a hairball. Who knows? Just remember, it's one number. He is doing fine.

What was the snack? It does look like this cycle is a litle high overall. I'd just wait and see what happens next……..

Re: 3/3 FRED AM=192(1);+4=149;+7=176;+10=312

he got about 2oz of his regular food, then some juice from canned salmon I was fixing for me.
I thought he was trending lower....no yellow or purple. He's been in watching birds. Nothing unusual.

Now I'm worried that the AM shot didn't go in.....but wouldn't the mid-day #s have been higher? confused_cat Anyway, I shot ever-so-slightly higher than 1.0.

Right now he's acting a little "slow". He got to go out yesterday in 70 degrees. Today he's stuck inside due to snow with temps in the teens. Do cats really care about that stuff. He looks depressed!!.

Back to the drawing board....

If it had been a fur shot, chances are he'd have hit 300 long before now. His numbers would have steadily increased all day. That didn't happen.

Like Sue said, it can be anything, including a bounce.
