Yesterday's condo here: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=67359

Recap of yesterday's BGs:

AMPS- 180, cycle 3 of 0.05u Lantus
+3- 238
+6- 223
PMPS- 199, cycle 4 of 0.05u Lantus
+3- 191
+5- 144

This morning's AMPS was 403  , and Cini's +3 was 334.

I am just beside myself with these numbers  ohmygod_smile

Two things happened in the last 2 days:

1. I reduced Cini's insulin to 0.05u - The reason for the reduction is the 37 he had at PM+4 on 3/26

2. I reduced Cini's Terbutaline to .5mls once a day in the evenings - The reason for the reduction is the Vet specialist (my regular Vet is still out of town) suggested I start weaning Cini off the Terbultaline over the next 6 weeks since I am reporting no asthma/breathing issues. We would still keep him on the Flixotide 250mcg inhaler, 1 puff twice a day.

So, with this information I have several choices:

A. Increase the insulin back to 0.10u, but keep the Terbutaline dose the same.
B. Keep the insulin dose at 0.05u and go back to twice a day on the Terbutaline.
C. Increase both the insulin and the Terbutaline back to their original pre-Mar 27th dosages, get Cini stabilized, and then only decrease one of those variables and see what happens.

Help? confused_cat

Re: 3/29-Cini Mini-AMPS 403,+3/334,+6/249 -Questions/Need He

+9 was 175

Maybe I should keep doing what I'm doing and chalk these weird overnight numbers up to New Dose Wonkiness? :?:

Cathy

Bad news....NDW only applies to increases of insulin...not to reductions.

I'm all for only changing one variable at a time; if you change more than one at a time, then you don't know what the change is attributable to. Are his numbers now because he doesn't like the reduction? Is it the decrease in the meds?
I don't think any of us can suggest what to do with the Terbutaline; you and your vet know what's best for him on that account. I'd say if his numbers don't come back down in the next cycle or so, I'd take him back up to the .1u and see how he does since your vet told you to decrease the Terbutaline.

Thanks Marjorie, I'll take that approach.

I'll give Cini another day and see if he settles in better with this dose. I just can't figure out this overnight spike. :?

Are you absolutely certain that there is actually insulin coming out of the syringe when you inject it?
Donovan had several days' worth of an unplanned OTJ trial when I first tried to submicrodose him.

Hey MJ! Good to see you back!

Yes, after I draw the insulin out of the pen, I draw in some air in the syringe so that I can see if I really do have insulin in the syringe or not. It also helps with getting rid of the air bubbles. Then I push the plunger up and line up the amount of insulin I need.

Kinda odd, isn't it?

Maybe his body is going through Terbutaline withdrawal?

Re: 3/29-Cini Mini-PMPS 145,+6/84 - A little more like it

I can't think of anything that would cause this, I'm no expert, but I did get a few high numbers when I used a new pen once, I guess it was bad.

Hi Daphne,

Oh I hope not. He was doing so well on this new pen and I have been very careful with it.
