Re: 3/28 Rosy AMPS 344 Bounce?

that's the downside of the skinny lancets. maybe you can find something in the middle? mine don't have a size on them, but i have the feeling they're huge!

Re: 3/28 Rosy AMPS 344 Bounce?

when i first learned to test alex, my vet gave me 25 gauge lancets. i got blood on the first try and have never had a problem since. now we use 28 or 30 gauge, but i think those 25 gauge made it easier in the beginning. maybe a lower gauge lancet would help you, too...

Re: 3/28 Rosy AMPS 344/+4 81 Green!!

Thanks for the tips on the lancet needle. After a few poking still no or too little blood, I have to use the 22g again. But, I'll try to get a thinner one for Rosy. These needle comes in box of 100. Now my home is like a pharmacist store!!

AM +4 81 Finally Rosy gave me a green number ! Hurrah!

These roller coaster is too much to handle. I was telling my husband, one number; one number takes you from heaven to hell...That's not the stock index, that's my kitty's bg number nailbite_smile
How do you all handle the stress? Chocolate bar? a drink? bursting in tears?

All of the above!!   Actually, the Board helps me with stress, there is always someone to sympathize with you who has been there. And remembering that each number is just one moment in time, it is the trends that are important. That is quite a drop for Rosy, please be prepared to test again soon! Yay for the green   don't forget to add the Mr Green icon, you guys earned it!

Re: 3/28 Rosy AMPS 344/+4 81 Green!!

Yep all of the above

That certainly was a serious drop for Rosy :o

I have heard of people freehanding who do two pricks right next to each other to get their sample - I think two pricks with the smaller needle probably wouldn't be as bad as one prick with the 22 gauge, or as damaging to her little ears.

Hi Serryn, I believe Vyktors was giving you all the roller coaster ride before he becomes the surfing master? It must be very difficult for you to face it all alone. Did you talk with friends?

I did try to prick twice at the same spot with the 30g needle but difficult as I could not seem to get to the same spot but side by side nailbite_smile Yes, there was blood but too little for the meter to test. Im always afraid if too little blood, those numbers are not accurate.
Anyway, I'll keep on my search for the "perfect needle". Maybe something in between? 28g.

He was a bounce master too, his bounces used to last for the full three days plus some! My friends think (well thought) I'm crazy same as for you but I did have one person at work who I reported Vyktor's numbers to regularly who was interested because he is diabetic himself, otherwise people don't really understand what you're talking about. Luckily there is always someone on the the board who understands whatever issues you're having and how you're feeling. Without the board I would have been lost and I absolutely had my days of feeling discouraged and not knowing if I could keep it up and crying like a baby (not so much now though ) I found the best way to cope was to focus just on getting through one cycle at a time with always keeping the big picture and my aims for remission in the back of my mind.

Yes, that's what I am doing too. Not to think about how long but how to do it. I always think that if we dont love them as much, we wont be as discouraged by those numbers & that will be easier.
People think I am crazy to aim for a remission for my cat. I always ask them will you do the same if its your human child?
I got blood from using the 29g ultra fine insulin needle. Is there a difference between an ultra fine & a "normal" needle?

Just got the AM+10 205
Rosy is such a bouncy girl. She can really jump up & down with those figures, makes it very scary for me to leave her during the nighttime without food around. I may need to cage her & put in pet feeder at night.

Re: 3/28 RosyAMPS344/+4 81/+10 205/ PMPS 250

helen, i think it helps to repeat the Lantus Land mantra "it's a marathon, not a sprint." one number is only that - so don't give any single number too much importance.

and we have each other. everyone here is in the same boat! at least there's good company on the journey.

Hi guys .. yeah, these rollercoaster rides sure aren't any fun are they? Just know you can come here and vent, we've all been there, we've all done it .. hang in there!

Thankyou so much Julia, PeterDevonMocha.
Me & Rosy are so blessed to have found our way here. I am so touched by all the helpful & kindness from you all. In this forum, we all love our kitties so much that we understand & concern about how all our babies are doing. Seeing one having a good day made all of us happy, esp those near OTJ & those having great improvements. Seeing another doing not so good, having hic-cups in their lifes makes us worry. I saw Tamara's condo, how she's torn between doing things as her vet suggested or doing what everybody adviced. I was in her shoe a month ago. Scolded by 3 vets for doing so much home testing & restrcting Rosy's food intake. It's the same practice here, let the cat eat all she wants, just control the disbetes with insulin. Rosy was on 3u BID too!
In my real life, even among my kitty friends, not that many people are ready to give such devotion. HK is a very commercialed city. People all live a hectic & busy life. I realy appreciate all your help.

Rosy's PM +4 187 gave her canned food. I wish she will stablize after the bounce.

   oh, the many mechanisms we use to cope with the ups and downs!

Pat & CD gave me the best coping idea very early on in our journey...and I thank them for the tip...
Looking at Binks and seeing that he was happy and his health was improving always eased my heart :-D

Hey there, we haven't chatted yet, but I'm fairly new here too. And yes, it can be super confusing and discouraging especially when you see those huge numbers and then they give you this glimmer of hope and then they bounce right back up again! i've found it a LOT easier to stay sane and understand what is going on with Rupert by plugging his numbers into an excel chart that I keep, and then getting it to show a 'trendline'..... it shows the spikes and the lows and the bounces and everything, but it also gives you a very quick overview of the past month (or whatever you want to track) as to where the 'general' trend is heading. I took the liberty of plugging in all Rosy's numbers since March 1 and producing this for you.. hope it makes you feel a bit better!! The heavy black line is the trend line... pretty self explanatory... you are on the right track!!

OMG! Pip & Rupert, you are my hero & my torch! Now I see , Rosy IS doing better. Thankyou so much!
Yes celi, our kitty's improvement is our best reward!

Rosy PM +7.5 158 Gave her a bit of food

I dont know how she did it. After that nadir & she can still come down. Rosy's reaction to Lantus is different to the AM daytime. She goes lower & stay lower for longer time. Maybe she wants to keep my awake all night?
