New poster. Mugs was diagnosed with Diabetes less than two weeks ago. She’s a nearly 15-year old tabby who, until her diagnosis, was getting steroid injections every three to four weeks to control her asthma. That’s stopped, of course. We’re now on a transdermal cream to see if that helps with the allergies, her trigger.
Anyway, she had her first once-daily, 2-click dose with her Lantus pen on Thursday at the vet. I gave her the injections the next two days, or I thought I had until I realized the Lantus pen clicks to 0 after it’s primed and needs to be reset back to 2 prior to putting it into the cat. I find I was using the poor thing as a pin cushion for two days, no insulin. I finally got some into her this morning.
We’re watching her now. We don’t know what to expect. What is a normal reaction to first time insulin? She seems more active. She’s walking down the hall meowing into the bedrooms which she doesn’t do unless we’re sleeping in and she wants fed. She seems to want more attention. My only explanation is that maybe she wants my daughter out of bed, too. She doesn’t seem overly restless or uncomfortable. She’s purring when pet. In fact, I have her outside on her leash now enjoying tasty Spring grass in the rain (she’s enjoying, I’m cold).
Is this desire for attention and increased activity normal? She did the same thing after the first successful injection at the vet.
