AMPS (377) +12 Shot .6 3:00am

Still trying to find some kind of pattern or something.....Also, Hershey has lost ~lb. I had stopped weighing his food and gone more to eye-balling it. He seems content with the amount he's eating, but I don't think he'd quarrel with being given more food, either! So, I guess starting the next cycle I'll go back to weighing it.

+5.25 (277)
+6 (196)

PMPS (281) +12 Shot .3u 3:10pm - Increased his food to ~9-oz/day since he has lost almost 2 pounds this month. Now weighs 9.8-lb. Negative ketones
PM +3.25 (338) - Went to load the dishwasher and missed +3!
PM +6 (231)
PM +7 (234)

+5.25 (277)

Didn't set my alarm to do a +4, since Hershey has been waking me up ~+4 - +4.5. But, not today. When my alarm went off at +5 to see my daughter off to school, he was so insistent that I feed him...I didn't want to ignore it if his numbers were low and he was warning me. (277) - yeah, not low...

+6 (196)

Seems like kind of a big drop for :45, but I like the BLUE! Seeing that +6 BG - wondering if he'd stay lower longer if I waited and fed at +7 instead of +6. I don't think he'd go for much past that, or if he'd even go for that. He seems hungrier in the AM, or maybe he just cries more until I get up. Not sure.

Discovered that Oreo's bowl didn't get put up after the 3am feeding and it was licked spotlessly clean. So - guess who cleaned up?! Again, Oreo only leaves remnants around the sides/corners of the bowl, so he couldn't have gotten much. (Example - scraping out all of the remnants at this feeding was a little less than tsp.) But, still...Again, Oreo is eating Friskies Ocean Whitefish & Tuna and if this flavor on Binky's list is the Pate, it's 6% carbs. BUT - it's the principle of the sneaky thing!!

Ketones negative - Weight 9.8 lb

The weight kind of disturbs me because that means he has lost about 2 pounds this month. Wrong direction! I know he's up and around more and even doing a little wrestling/chasing with Oreo, but he needs to gain weight. I had stopped weighing his food and was more eyeballing it, but as of the 3pm shot am going back to weighing it and thinking of upping it by an ounce or so, at least until he gets closer to the 12 pounds we were shooting for.

Thought about upping to .4, but stayed with .3u since we were increasing his food. Didn't want to change food and amount at the same time. Actually increased his food a little closer to 9-oz for the day.

Great news on the ketones!

As for his weight - are you weighing him at home? Or at the vet's office? There's a discrepancy between the scales in two of our exam rooms, so I always weigh him at home before going, or just weigh him for the sake of weighing him. And I make sure I tell them that number when I go in. .4 lbs is barely anything for me, but for him, it's really significant!

Grayson may be getting an auto-feeder... but I need to get a sturdy one, cuz he'll throw it on the floor and break it if there's a chance he can eat 3 minutes earlier!

Hey Libby,

Curious about the food situation. Can you explain when and how much you feed him on average? For example, 3oz at +3, etc...

I'm curious about your schedule.

Lu-Ann - We weighed him here at home. We bought a digital scale a couple of months ago. Weighed him with Doug and got the same number twice, so figured it was close enough for our purposes.

My cats are pretty slick, but haven't been able to break into theirs, yet. ;-)

Lisa - We feed them at shot time and +6. We buy the 12.5-oz cans. I had been weighing out ~7-oz and dividing it between the 4 meals (making ~1.75-oz). Then, I started eyeballing and giving him 1/2 can daily, divided into 4 meals. Since we weighed him today and he had lost weight, we upped it. Today, I weighed out 9-oz but portioned it a little more at shot time. Still need a scale that weighs <1-oz, but Walmart is out every time I look. So, it would be roughly 2.75-oz at shot time and roughly 1.75 at +6.

It seems his nadir is usually between +4 and +6. So, I was thinking...maybe...if I delayed his +6 feeding to +7, it might keep his numbers lower a little longer...Figured it was worth a try...

Yeah, Donna, Oreo could afford to give him a couple of pounds, too. Heck, I'd even be willing to give him s-e-v-e-r-a-l!!!

PM + 6 (231) -

Not much of a drop...50 pts, but 107 pts down from the +3. Anxious to see what the +7 brings.

I explained to them that we were delaying food until the +7. Apparently, they either didn't understand or chose to ignore me because they both tried to lead me to their bowls at +6. Now, Hershey is just staring at me...either willing me to come feed him or, perhaps, trying to decide what kind of sauce to put on me when he EATS me!! ;-)

And they heard, "Blah blah blah blah, blah blah, blah Hershey & Oreo."

You know, it only takes once to start a food routine for a cat. Changing that food routine is another story! ;-) This is especially true at breakfast time. TRY to sleep in - your cat will see to it that you stick to his schedule!

+6 (231)
+7 (234) - Fed them, much to their delight :-D

I'm thinking tomorrow we may hold off for the +8 reading and see how it goes. I'd love for him to stay lower a little longer. I'm kind of afraid to hold food much past +8 because I want it gone by the next PS. Not sure how to break that news to them...will have to suit up in full riot gear!

Oreo NEVER asks for food. He'll wait patiently to be fed. When they were on dry food, he'd rock the food container back and forth to let you know he was hungry. (Often he'd knock it over and sometimes even get the top off!) But, nothing since they went on canned. Hershey on the other hand...still has not recovered from the time change and will start crying at my door some mornings about 6:30 or sometimes he'll let me sleep until 7am. I'll come out so Doug can sleep. Since breakfast doesn't happen that early, sometimes I'll just come sit in the living room and try to get myself together. He's not actually wanting breakfast! He just wants me to get up!! He doesn't even usually come and sit with me - he just wants to know I'm in there!!! (My family says I've spoiled him - nah ;-) )

Thanks, Jenn - I'd love another yellow PS (or two or three... :-D )

So he has lost 2lbs in one month? Was he underweight or overweight from last weigh in? Does he feel skinny to you? Can you feel his back bone ? Wondered if you could try him free feeding a couple of days and see where his weight goes. Just thinking outloud.

Hope you can get Hershey back on schedule. C'mon Hershey where are those blue's?

He was underweight. Apr, 2010, he weighed 12 lb? 12.5 lb? I can't find it right now. I don't remember him looking overweight. He's a l-o-n-g cat. Lu-Ann measured him at 35-1/4" to the tip of his tail. He had weighed more than that at one point, before we started measuring out his food. He was used to eating dry food four times a day and just a little wet at bedtime.

Nov, 2011, (at diagnosis) he weighed 8.5 lb and his little hips stuck out something fierce.

By Mar 3rd, he weighed 11.4 lb, but hips still weren't filling out. I posted about it and found others who were hoping their kitties would fill out in those areas, again, over time. Lu-Ann weighed him on her baby scale 3/14 and he was 10.2 lb.

Today, we weighed him twice and got 9.8 lb. His belly is still filled out, hips still skinny. And, he still eats whatever I put in front of him. He was eating ~7-oz/day when he was gaining. So, I'm going to try this ~9-oz/day for a week or so and see if it makes a difference. If not, I may need to take him to the vet. He's not showing any other signs of a problem, though. I never see him drinking from the water bowl, but I add water to his food 3 - 4 T each meal. And, he's still using the litterbox a couple of times a day - sounding like someone turned on the faucet! (No blockage THERE!)

I wish his body would get more comfortable with the low numbers. But, I like those yellow's over those reds and blacks, that's for sure!

Thanks, Lori - Please share any insight you have :-D
