Good morning LL-
Its been quite a while since I've posted. It is hard to believe it has been almost 6 months since Fur Ball has had any insulin. We are ever so grateful for the board and all the support in getting him this far. :-D

Fur Ball went to the vet on Tues. He had a couple lumps we were concerned about. The one on his behind is no big deal but when they aspirated the one on his throat it is a mast cell tumor that they need to remove. The vet is hopeful this is benign but we need to make sure. We also need to (finally) get his dental done (which we were hoping to wait until Aug but since he is going under for the tumor we are doing it all at once). The poor guy is going to have to have a good number of extractions so I'm definitely nervous about this. I have been reading up on the notes here on the board (Sienne's post has been most helpful - information on dentals) but I'm not looking forward to this process. I do have a call into the dental vet and will be asking a lot of questions. I do know they use Buprenex for pain and the estimate is showing Diprivan, Antirobe (Clindamycin) Suspension, and Hetastarch as the pharmaceuticals. They will be doing X-rays once he's sedated and have warming beds to keep his temps stable. I still am not liking this process. Scheduled it for next Friday do we can be with him over the weekend while he recovers.

At least his lab wor looked a lot better (last test was in Sept 2012 when he was dx'd) and the vet was impressed by his numbers. I tested his BG Monday and it was 82. He was so nervous at the vets and ended up sitting in the sink for most of the exam (peed in the box to and fro as well). After being there 45 min they took him back to draw blood and were gone for like 15 min. The tech said she had a difficult time getting his blood drawn. We got his lab results yest and his glucose was 161. I'm guessing vet stress contributed to that. I checked him 2 hrs after we got home and he was down to 53.

Another bummer is that our diet plan has obviously not been going as well as hoped. He's back up to 18.38. Which is another reason we were hoping to wait until Aug for his dental so we could get some weight off him. Oh well.

Hopefully everyone is doing well. I should have time to get to condos today.

Karen

Just did a dental on tuesday but no extractions.

I know how anxious it makes you.
When Shadow had a lump removed, ( infiltrative lipoma) it was so intertwined in muscle tissue that they ran out of time to get to her teeth.

I hope they can get all of Fur Ball's issues done in one surgery.
Shadow is good about blood draws and I always insist they do it in front of me... so she can look into my eyes while she feels all stressed and held down. ( altho' the one in the
throat makes me so queasy, I almost pass out) The last two draws were from her leg.

Poor Fur Ball having to do all this.
I'll be thinking of you as you go thru all the waiting and worry.
Hugs!

Hi Karen!

First of all, Happy 6 Months! :-D It would be 6 months for us too, if K hadn't come back from the falls

Sorry to hear about the tumors, keeping our paws crossed that they are benign. Sounds like a good plan to have all his work done at once. Sending good surgery vines.

Karen:

Gabby has had several dentals and the procedures went well. It's nerve wracking no matter what especially since they are doing 2 procedures. You might find out whether they will use bupe given the tumor surgery. Gabby did have one major surgery many years ago (pre-diabetes) and one dental where the vet used a Fentanyl patch. It's also a narcotic (so is bupe) but since it's a patch, you won't need to administer another drug. The only downside is that like with bupe, some cats have a paradoxical reaction and get agitated rather than stoned.

Please keep us posted on the day of the procedure.

Hi Karen. Just wanted to drop by and let you know that we have Fur Ball and you in our Prayers.

Have a gear day Karen.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Sienne, the vet said they would be using Bupe. What are the concerns about using it given the fact they are also removing the tumor?
Rhiannon, FB usually does really good with the blood draw. I think it was a new tech that didn't know what she was doing. She said he was soooo patient with her but he definitely was happy to be back with us.
John. Good to hear from you. I need to come check out your condo.
Carla. Thanks for the prayers. I, too, hope the tumor is benign.
Courtney. Yep next weekend it will be 6 months. Too bad FB gets to celebrate with surgery! Poor guy.

Hope everyone has a wonderful surf tonight and kitties stay safe.

Sending Fur Ball tons of good vetty vines. I hope the tumor is benign and he has a fast recovery from its removal and any extractions.

HI Karen -

I misunderstood your post to mean that the procedure had already been done - my bad! When is it? I hope everything goes well and they have enough time for both and hopefully no extractions. The dental is always so stressful - Molly had hers about a month ago and did fine, but I was a mess. She's 14 the CKD and getting on the weaker side.

Wow - congrats on 6 months at the falls! Fur Ball went OTJ a bit after we joined, but it doesn't seem so long ago. And good on the BGs not going too high with the stress, and recovering very nicely!

Let us know when the procedure is - and many hugs and calming vines to you all.

Hi Karen,
Sending you lots of vines and prayers for next Friday. I hope Fur Ball comes through with flying colors, the bump is benign, the dental goes well and he recovers quickly. Lots of calm to you. I like that they have warmed beds to help keep FurBall's temp stable.
Congratulations on 6 months at the Falls!!!!! YEAH FUR BALL!!! take good care and keep us in the loop. xoxo mary and oliver
