AMPS 328, 4th dose @ s1.5u, 1/3PP, 1/8 Zantac, 1/4 Ondansetron, 1.2oz 9%, 1/16t Miralax, 7 drops kidney liquid
+1 364, 0.8oz 9%

Good morning LL! Zener is doing fine this morning. Appy is good, probably from the cypro last night. Now that we give him just an 1/8 of a pill or less, we are puzzled that vets prescribe much higher doses. I've been thinking about vet advice compared to LL advice. I have great respect for vets and their formal training and the wide variety of animals and conditions they see. That is truly amazing. On the other hand, LL is mostly self-educated (some of you have relevant formal education, very useful) and specialized on diabetic cats. This place is truly amazing too. I think one thing that vets are missing is the feedback on the results of their treatments. They don't see the result of 1 teaspoon BID of miralax. On the other hand, our collective experience has found that 1/8 teaspoon BID is a good place to start and increase from there if needed. So thank you, everyone, for your experience, expertise, and willingness to share. We feel very, very fortunate to be here.

Paws crossed for the multiple OTJ trials. Very exciting! And very exciting to see Vyktor getting an "occasional" reduction now and again. :-D :-D {don't want to jinx anything}. Thinking of those who are ailing or sad today. Have a good one!
Liz

Re: 3/27 Zener AMPS 328;+1 364

Hi guys,

Nice comments on the feedback we get here from our ongoing, collective, experience with the doses of various medications--not to mention insulin! I agree that all of us are very lucky to have found the FDMB. (I can really appreciate what I have learned here, since I shot my GA kitty, Stu, for 4 years without testing. His story might have been much different if I had found this group when he was diagnosed.)

Zener, let's see some lower numbers as the day goes on, OK?

Re: 3/27 Zener AMPS 328;+1 364

Tee hee, he did it again

He would like Zener to come and play with him though...

Re: 3/27 Zener AMPS 328;+1 364

Hi Liz, nice report on Zener and glad his appy and overall things are good with him. I so agree with your comments on Vets and LL. You have said it so well, too. Have a wonderful day.

Re: 3/27 Zener AMPS 328;+1 364

Hi Liz - morning! I liked your comments on vets and the board. I agree whole-heartedly. I too am with Ella - we shot Mannie blind for a year and half before we fond the board. I too think that maybe Mannie's story would be different if we had found fdmb when he was DX'd. He was/is so much better off after finding this place.

Ok Zener, you and Mannie seem to like the pinks today. How about you two find the lower floors? Deal?

have a good day today.

Re: 3/27 Zener AMPS 328;+1 364

Mr. Z - what's up there on that ugly pink floor that's so interesting today? KT's up there rollin' around too - psst...Beans don't LIKE those pink parties!

Liz - I agree with the feedback thing, hadn't ever thought about it that way before but it's so true!

BIG HUG for the day! Pass it on to Anne too please!

Re: 3/27 Zener AMPS 328;+1 364

Hi guys .. I'm glad zener's appy is back today .. and I have to agree with your condo about vets and LL .. and also excited to see so many OTJ trials going on! A true testament to LL! Have a great day guys!

Re: 3/27 Zener AMPS 328;+1 364

Nice to see Zenner w/ a good appy. Agreed, I check through the board every time our vet suggests something new. Experience and feedback are the keys to understanding.

Re: 3/27 Zener AMPS 328;+1 364;+3 259;+6 131

Great news on the appy! I like your comments regarding vet vs FDMB. It is amazing the amount of knowledge here and we all benefit from it. Nice +6 there rainbow guy!! Have a great day all!

Re: 3/27 Zener AMPS 328;+1 364;+3 259;+6 131;+8 94

Rainbow bandit kitty again, his new favorite pattern. It almost looks like he has one nadir for the 24 hour period. We're not sure what it means, but it is what it is. Any advice or thoughts appreciated!

Thanks to all for stopping by and encouraging the big guy. He is listening to his LL aunties and he's green!

AMPS 328, 4th dose @ s1.5u, 1/3PP, 1/8 Zantac, 1/4 Ondansetron, 1.2oz 9%, 1/16t Miralax, 7 drops kidney liquid
+1 364, 0.8oz 9%
+3 259, 0.5oz 9%
+6 131, 0.3oz 11%
+8 94, 0.4oz 11%

He had a good appy start to the am cycle, then not so much. We are hoping the decrease in appy is because he's just not hungry. The appy stimulant had him eating a bit more than is usual last night, so he may just be full. Poo patrol was successful this morning and looked Zener normal, so he is moving things through. We shall see where he is near the end of this cycle. :?

Re: 3/27 Zener PMPS 111, vomit, 30 min stall

Well, it's always something. This evening's drama-rama was poor appy, vomit and a 30 minute stall until we could be sure he would eat and keep it down. nailbite_smile

Today
3/27/12 Zener
AMPS 328, 4th dose @ s1.5u, 1/3PP, 1/8 Zantac, 1/4 Ondansetron, 1.2oz 9%, 1/16t Miralax, 7 drops kidney liquid
+1 364, 0.8oz 9%
+3 259, 0.5oz 9%
+6 131, 0.3oz 11%
+8 94, 0.4oz 11%
+9 126, 2/3PP @ poke
~11.5 111, 0.4oz 11% - while drawing up shot, vomited small amount of food & liquid
30 minute stall
PMPS 111, 5th cycle @s1.5u, 1PP with 1/4 ondansetron, 1/8 Zantac, 1.05oz 8% & 1/16t miralax

We thought this vomit could be a scarf and barf but not sure, so we delayed his shot to see if we could get food in him. We waited about 10 minutes and he seemed to be feeling fine, so we gave him his evening meds in small bits of pill pocket and waited to see how this would go. He was playing with his toys, then went outside and chased Tillie a little, so we thought he was feeling pretty good. We then fed him a small amount of his 11% and he ate that, we tried some more of the 11% and he was not interested, so we switched to 10% & he ate a bit of that, followed a few minutes later by a bit of 5%. At that point he had eaten a little over an ounce, which is what we typically like to see on board when we shoot. We waited for about 10 minutes to make sure the food was staying put. All in all, we delayed the shot by 30 minutes. He purred while I was giving him his shot and is currently laying sprawled out on his heating pad. Whew. Here's hoping for a calm evening from here on out.

Re: 3/27 Zener PMPS 111;~1 136;~2 107 eating

Things have calmed down at our house, kitties eating, no puking, no diving, beans climbing down from the ceiling. ;-)
~11.5 111, 0.4oz 11% - while drawing up shot, vomited small amount of food & liquid
30 minute stall
PMPS 111, 5th cycle @s1.5u, 1PP with 1/4 ondansetron, 1/8 Zantac, 1.05oz 8% & 1/16t miralax
~1 136, 0.6oz 9%
~2 107, 1PP with 3 mg Zobaline, 0.65oz 8%

@Devon - thanks for the finger crossing, it's helping! :-D

@Sienne - thanks for the reassurance, it appears to have been a scarf and barf. :?

@Amy - thanks for the positive support, the Z man works so hard to eat and feel good for his beans. cat_pet_icon

@Serryn - we're so happy when he is enthusiastic about eating we forget about the potential for scarf n barf.

@Melissa & Mr T - the paws crossed must be helping, and same back at you for the ride Mr T is on tonight. :o

@julie - yes, purring is encouraging! He seems to be feeling better so we can relax a little.

I swear these eating and appy issues are going to make the beans way more crazy than BG numbers!

Re: 3/27 Zener PMPS 111;~1 136;~2 107 eating

looks like things are settling down well! phew! and some pretty nice numbers there despite the drama! hope you get some sleep and all is well with everyone.

@julie - thanks for the hug, it's great medicine for beans. ;-)

@Pip - nice numbers in spite of dramarama and we'll take 'em. Liz is tucked in bed and I'm on night duty for a mid-cycle test, settling in for bad tv, ~O) and kitty cuddles. :-D

Re: 3/27 Zener PMPS 111;~1 136;~2 107;+3 103

Glad Zener is doing well and no ill effects from the pukus. These are very nice numbers for him! cat_pet_icon

This is kind of random, but I was wondering if simethicone might be something to discuss with your vetty. It is the ingredient in Gas-X and Mylicon, used for upper GI gas pain and burping. I wonder if his CH might cause him to swallow more air than usual while he is eating, since you've mentioned he burps a lot and rubbing his tummy helps. My 2 minute Google search  indicates it can be used in cats (more common in dogs who bolt down their food), but I didn't really find any good websites with professional info or research, so I would definitely have your vetty look into it before trying it. Just a thought and it may not be worth pursuing. Lurkers and/or newbies, don't try this at home without talking to your vet please!

Re: 3/27 Zener PMPS 111;~1 136;~2 107;+3 103;+5 96

Despite the crummy start to this cycle, it is a lovely one with no diving and express trains.
PMPS 111, 5th cycle @s1.5u, 1PP with 1/4 ondansetron, 1/8 Zantac, 1.05oz 8% & 1/16t miralax
~1 136, 0.6oz 9%
~2 107, 1PP with 3 mg Zobaline, 0.65oz 8%
+3 103, 1.1oz 9% (my poor math earlier - this is correct now)
+5 96, 1.2oz 9%

His appy seems much better post-pukus, and his numbers look amazing!

@Melissa - I'm not familiar with this med, perhaps there are others on the board who know something too. Prior to his FD diagnosis, he was exclusively a dry kibble eater and never had tummy problems, pain or belching. The poor appy and not eating all started shortly after his diagnosis and before he was on Lantus and we switched to an all wet food diet, so I'm not sure it is related to his CH, but this is certainly worth researching! Our vet is quite the researcher when we ask about meds and treatments we read about here in LL. She is currently away for 2 weeks, but I will ask when she returns. It would sure be great to find something that helps!
