Good morning,

Gots lots of snuggles and lovin' from Miss Shasta last night and this morning. I think it may have had something to do with the fact that it's 'cold' here!!! All Ps are present. Would like to see some better poop today, but she did leave me a little prezzie yesterday. Appy is ok, play is good, purrs are good, preening is fine, and she does pee! :-D

I have an appointment w/ a spinal surgeon this morning. nailbite_smile Didn't sleep well last night in anticipation and to make it worse, I worked myself into an almost/mini panic attack. I'm sooo worried about blowing out the other side of the herniated disc that I started getting light headed, numb on both sides of my body, etc. I'm still having to talk myself out of 'creating' symptoms...not that I want more problems...it's just my fear that things have (or will) get worse. Breathe Deborah. Just breathe.

Ok, off to get ready. Blessings to everyone - two and four legged!

I'm glad Shasta is doing well this morning. Kitty snuggles are always great, not matter what the reason. I hope everything goes well with you visit with the surgeon today. Sending calming prayers to you Deborah.

Hi Carla, Thanks for dropping in on me and Shasta. She's doing fine today. Her appy hasn't been the greatest tonight, but not the worst. Hoping I get more snuggles tonight. Thanks for the calming vines...they were/are much needed! Hope you and Furball had a great day!

Hi Rhiannon, Sorry for the late post. So after lots of questions, flex tests, awkward answers...the surgeon suggested I first try epidural steroid injections into the herniated area that is affecting the nerve. He said that if the injections do not alleviate the pain (in a long term fashion) then we will discuss the possibilities of surgery. In the meantime, he's ordered x-rays w/ flex tests and an EMG. I like that he didn't jump into the discussion of surgery. That's why my chiropractor likes him. Very cautious and covers all avenues before jumping into the most invasive. Meanwhile, he also wants me to continue therapy with chiropractor and don't life anything over 25 lbs. I told him I could follow those instructions and he's lucky because my cat is just under 10 lbs...so we're good! :-D

Overall, the pain is less in the morning; a little more in the evenings (understandably); and it seems to be feeling better as the days wear on, but there is still pain and it's still obvious I have an issue. The herniated area is pressing on my right leg nerve root, so it affects my entire right leg (numbness, pain, tingling...did I mention numbness!) My right calf feels like there's a huge rock it in when I walk...craziest (crappiest) feeling ever. So, that's all I have at the moment. I meet with another Dr. on Friday morning to discuss the epidural injections. Tomorrow is blood work, x-rays, & eye appointment! Gotta love spring break = doctor appointment catch up!

Thanks for checking in on me. I keep feeling like a big baby...the almost mini panic attack, the freaking out of every move I make...I need to live in a padded plastic bubble while wearing a big sumo wrestler outfit.

A cautious surgeon is a good one, always like it if surgery is the last option.... not the knee jerk reaction.
Hope the treatment he wants to try helps.
And even if it is spring break, you want relief as soon as you can get it so time well spent.

Guess we can wrap you in bubble wrap... as long as Shasta doesn't pop your bubbles. :-D

Whoa, Shasta, that is low enough. Get on that surfboard.  I'm sorry this is so stressful, Deborah. I hope you are feeling better emotionally and physically tonight after seeing the surgeon and having some options to try. Big hugs.
Liz

Thanks Liz. Shasta's stopped dropping, but is taking her time coming up. About to get a +5.5 because I would like to get to bed soon. It's been a long day...for spring break, you know! ;-) And thanks for the well wishes. Goodness knows...I need them! I feel like I ought to be 102 years old...especially when I stand up after sitting for any length of time.  Speaking of getting up, it's time to hobble to the poke spot! Thanks again and give Zener and Tillie scritches from me!

That's good the doctor didn't just push surgery on you. I hope the steroid injections take care of the problem for you and you won't need surgery.
