He just had another breathing episode, minor this time. WTHeck? Open mouth, panting, tongue out. Which then turned into flared nostril breathing and now seems fine.
During this, I had the vet on the phone. But it seemed to pass. They are open until 6:30. Just incase.
The last visit with this "episode" cost $275. Not saying I wont put a visit on a credit card but if they are going to tell me the same thing again...which was I don't know...I am going to hold off.
After that it would be an hour trip to get him to an emergency vet................

Can't remember, but did he have a cardiac eval? That type of panting breathing can be a sign of cardiomyopathy. But also asthma, I think. Beau had that kind of breathing when he would get "excited" or stressed just before and for several years after his dx of HCM. That means in the car, when he was playing aggressively (think feather on a string game), at the vet. He doesn't really do that anymore and he runs after the younger cats sometimes. He still pants in the car when we go on vacation for a while until he settles down.

Sending healing thoughts Mickey's way.

HI Peggy

Sometimes if cats are overweight it causes their trachea to narrow. Did you notice his sides in front of his back legs going in and out? I assume they took x-rays. If it were Asthma he would most likely be jutting his head out to open the airway.

I have Albuteral and an Aerocat in case you have an emergency it could pull him through.

Also, the other vets on 9 take calls till 10:00 and beyond. And you can call them for an inexpensive consultation. They are quite alright with you getting a second opinion. I do it all the time.

You can call me anytime if you need support or help.

How did I miss this post???? Peggy, how scary. My first two thoughts were the same as Sheila's - check his heart or asthma. I hope they can figure this out quickly. Any other events since Tuesday?

If the trachea problem is causing this, what was he doing or how was he positioned when the panting happened? I'm wondering if he was laying down, if you moved him or got him to stand up if that would help.

Sending prayers for Mickey.
