Hello all,
just got home from leaving her with the vet... I hung out with her for an hour and a half....
I always wait with her until they are ready to start.

Thank you for being with me... It has made a real difference for me...
I don't feel so alone.

I will update when I hear something...

Shadow wasn't easy to feed last night right at her cut off time... but I did get some in her. At 2 am, she started pawing me...
where's my food? confused_cat
And did that every hour until she figured out something was amiss.
And then when I got the carrier, she tried to thwart me as best she could. I had to use gravity to get her in... turned it on one end so I could get the
little door shut... she was determined not to let me close that door.
I know just how she feels, its like when you get on a theme park ride and realize you don't want to be there, but you have no control.
You just have to grit your teeth and get thru it.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 in surgery now

Hi Rhiannon, just posted on yesterday's condo... sending tons of good surgery vines to Miss Shadow. I'm glad you got to spend some time with her before you left, and it's always good to hear that her appy is good :)

I can totally relate about the carrier. I got one where you can unlatch the top and place them in and then put the top back on. There's no way I can Kiz in through the door otherwise.

Keep us posted, and we're keeping you and Shadow in our thoughts.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 in surgery now

((Rhiannon)), thinking about you and Shadow today and sending lots of easy-recovery vines.

I use a top-loading carrier (like Courtney) ~ mine is a cheapo cardboard one from petco. It's much easier to let gravity help out, plus if there are any accidents, it's disposable.

I hope today goes by quickly for you so you can have Shadow back home in no time.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 in surgery now

Sending prayers that all goes well with Shadow's surgery and peace for you Rhiannon.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 in surgery now

Praying for a successful surgery for Shadow today, and healing vines for a quick recovery. And hugs and calming vines to you, Rhiannon.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 in surgery now

When Star refuses to be wrestled into the carrier (he's amazingly strong and uses his tail pretty effectively as a fifth appendage!), sometimes I throw a pillowcase over him and then shove the whole cloth+kitty bundle in. Get it latched before he escapes the pillowcase. He is very insulted by this, but he doesn't hold a grudge.  Thinking healing and happy thoughts for Shadow today and looking forward to the update. Hang in there!

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 in surgery now

The vet called. Shadow is recovering now. I can go get her in the next hour.
Her teeth were fine and since he didn't have to do extractions he xrayed her front legs and did indeed find signs of arthritis. So we start Adequan again.
She will be quite happy to get in the carrier now and come home.

Whew!!!!

I am relieved. Thank you everyone!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. !!! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 surgery over... update

Happy happy news!! I'm glad that Shadow's teeth were fine. Time for some great snuggles with Shadow this afternoon!

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 surgery over... update

Wonderful vet news, Rhiannon. Especially, no extractions. flip_cat
Now, for the Adequan to do it's job, so Shadow can feel good.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 surgery over... update

something else you can give that will help with the arthritis - is glucosamine, chrondroitin, MSM combo - you can get this in treat form

one is pet naturals by vermont - hip and joint formula - it isn't necessarily diabetic friendly but giving one to two pieces a day shouldn't be a big deal.

or you can get it in jerky form or chewable pill form too

the good thing with this is it won't interfere with anything else you are doing and can help - at a minimum it won't hurt

and glad everything is over and she can come home

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 surgery over... update

We are home now.
Shadow was greatly relieved to see me. They had her in a kennel cage..laying on a towel...
And dr. Bob asked if I wanted a towel to carry her to the exam room... oh no... I'll just take her.... and I did...
And he said she won't let any of them do that so I guess she's still a fighter when I'm not there.

Her little eyes look so awful... ike she's been crying...but I know it's the anesthesia and morpheine that has to wear off.
Just the whole vetty experience...
poor stoned kitty.

I did see her xrays... definite edges on her shoulders and elbows...
she'll be on adequan now for the next 3 weeks, once a week and then he thought once a month...
some of you have told me more like twice a month.
Also got some dasuquin for cats to sprinkle in her food.

she ate a little bit and is now on the floor laying under the coffee table...
I'm hanging with her.... except I'll need a quick trip to the store in a bit... but my dd is here.

she's giving me the lovey eyes with her huge pupils and seeping eyes. poor pitiful sweet girl...

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

Whew! I used to work at an animal hospital and if I remember correctly, they put some sort of eye gel in their eyes for surgeries. I dunno why. Glad there were no extractions! Speedy recovery, lil Shadow!

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

. Lots of hugs and snuggles to you. I'm so glad it went well. You'll be on top of her arthritis and she'll be feeling on top of the world soon. cat_pet_icon :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon :YMHUG: dancing_cat mary and ollie

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

I've heard that their eyes don't close when they are under, and the gel is used to keep the eye moist. Glad to hear she is home and doing well... Excellent news on the teeth! I do hope the adequan will help relieve her pain, poor girl.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

I'm so happy to hear everything went well with Shadow's BIG VETTY ADVENTURE. It's even more wonderful to get as many snuggles in tonight as you can. Oh how we love our little furbabies! :RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

I'm so glad everything went well and Shadow didn't have to have any extractions. Sorry to hear about the arthritis, but at least you can treat that and make her feel better.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

Hooray! :-D :-D And no extractions - excellent! Zener's eyes were weepy for a couple of days after his dental. The vet tech said their eyes don't close when they are under anesthesia and they put stuff on them to keep them moist. Cosequin really helps with Tillie's arthritis.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

Great news! I'm so glad she's home w/all teeth :-D .
Give her gentle scritches from us ~ so relieved all went well!

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

Adequan was a miracle for my Mario's arthritis. Once we got past the loading protocol (2 shots a week for 4 weeks, once a week for 4 weeks, every other week for 4 weeks), we did play it by ear with him. We were supposed to go once every 4 weeks, but if he started getting gimpy sooner than that, we gave him his shot, and it would kick in within a few hours.

I hope Shadow recovers from her adventure quickly!!

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

I'm so glad your baby is home :YMHUG: I know you're even gladder.
Give her some loves from us.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

Hi Rhiannon, so glad all went well today with Shadow and no extractions. Sending healing and recovery vines. I hear good things about Adequan. Mags is on Dasuquin, but I'm not completely sold on it. Yes, they do look stoned after the anesthesia  but a good stoned! Give Shadow some hugs and scritches from us.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 home sweet home

Happy to hear that it's over !! sorry I didn't talk to you earlier.. my sleeping is on and off.. but was thinking of you whole day long waiting for the good news !

Her little eyes look so awful... ike she's been crying.
Same here ! they're crying out of pain I think poor babies

Shadow is still a fighter and Noni had a great fight yesterday trying to move her from the recovery cage to her own carrier she was really aggressive and didn't even recognised me nor my sister, was trying to talk to her to calm her but she was calm when she saw our car. I think they never feel save unless their home we they belong.

BIG HUG for you rhiannon for the great effort today .. I believe you didn't have me time at all, hope you get enough sleep tonight ..how is her BG doing ? we're still hight.

sending a quick recovery vines all the way from us to sweet Shadow

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 +7~100

Awww, poor little stoned kitty with the big round eyes. She's probably having a good sleepy trippy time. :-D :-D :-D I'm so glad everything went ok and no extractions. That's a big relief! It's amazing what a cat will do to avoid getting into a carrier. It seems all for legs (and tail) manage to go all directions at once - it's all quite funny when you're not getting so frustrated by it! Now you can have a nice calming evening that everything turned out good.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 +7~100

Shadow hates being stoned/drugged. She paces a lot... appears overstimulated.
always has reacted that way.

She finally has come and laid down next to me. I keep cleaning her eyes... definitely they put something in there. That makes sense now. It just makes
her look like she feels out of it.

Wanted to test and see where she's at but she just ate a bit ago and I don't want her to leave now that she's settled beside me.
The 100 was right after we got home... and she ate a small snack.... so I'm guessing she was lower from the anesthesia and the food brought her up.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 +7~100

Rhiannon, We are so happy that Shadow's dental went well and doubly happy that her teeth are fine. No extractions, ma!! Good luck with the adequan. Have a wonderful evening with your kitty. I know how happy she is to be home (and how happy you are to have her home).

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Hi Rhiannon. So glad Shadow's dental went well and that she didn't need any extractions. Bummer with the arthritis but at least now that you have a diagnosis you can start the treatment program.

Isn't it funny how they miraculously grow 8 more legs when you try to get them in the carrier to go to the vet but then just as miraculously disappear when they have to get in the carrier to go home.

Have a great night Rhiannon and we'll keep Shadow in our Prayers for a quick and full recovery.

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 +7~100 pmbg 85

I'm sorry I couldn't make it on today to let you know I was sending vines, I was swamped at work! but I was thinking of you today and am glad that everything went well:) Hopefully you can have a great nights rest along with your Shadow :-D

Re: 3/26 Shadow ambg 107 +7~100 pmbg 85

Hi Roni,
So glad you came to visit us today.
Hope the move back to your house is a smooth transition. Miss having you here.

Hugs back!

Shadow is yowling in the living room... not wanting her food choice ... and won't come to bed.
I came to be with her and it stopped so I'm guessing anxiety more than pain. Got her to eat a few bites and then tested... and got a 74.
Haven't seen that number in a long time and think it's from the anesthesia. The lowest number she ever got was 39 so maybe she was there before eating but
I kinda doubt it.

I suspect it's anxiety since it stopped when I sat down.
guess I'll try to take her to the bedroom and lock her in... see if she'll come settle down and lay with me.
after I get her a different food choice....
