Good morning! Thanks for visiting yesterday: Chyna 3/25. Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply to you all! It was my moms bday so we'd gone out for supper and ran me home to test/feed and then my parents were over. Then they left and I was so tierd I just went to bed.

Well, Chyna must have been reading my condo about her eating all her fuds and decided to prove me wrong, she only ate half of all 3 mini meals overnight, ugh. Not sure when she ate them, so hopefully it was close to the morning BG since it went up from earlier days:( We had double the poo last night in the box so she was making up for the missed day, and she seems to be feeling good, full of purrs...hoping she'll eat better today.

I have a random question about phosphorus levels for CKD cats...do you all look at the mg Phos/100kcals or the phos DM on the food? I was told under 250 (or 200 idealy) for the mg Phos/100kcals or to have it under 1.0 Phos DM. But some of the foods have excellent mg Phos/100kcals and then you look over and see its much more more/over 1.0 Phos DM...so I've been only trying to use foods that are both under 200 or so, and under 1.0 (or so). Is that right? I guess I'd better go get ready for work, hope you all have good days!

Re: 3/26 Chyna AMBG 95 Trial Day 9 Phosphorus ?

Happy Day 9!!!!

I'm a total, wet-behind-the-ears newbie with the CKD stuff so I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm bumping you in hopes that someone does know the answer! At this point, I've just been looking at the DM...sometimes my brain does a better job at registering/remembering those smaller numbers  !

Have a great day!!!

Re: 3/26 Chyna PMBG 95 Trial Day 9 Phosphorus ?

Thanks Amy, I'm hoping someone is on tonight that can answer:) Chyna still isn't eating as much as I'd like but at least she ate most of her meals today earlier but the late ones only half gone at most. Her right ear is really bothering her, she is back to scratching like crazy the past week or so but I don't know why...nothing in the ear it looks clean so maybe a scent or allergy? I wish I knew. All other Ps in place today, but BG is slightly higher than the past while, I hope it's just from not eating all her fuds or something. I hope you're all having a good night!

I use both numbers, Rachel. If it's under 200 mg/100kcals but over 1.0 phos DM, I just add a little extra binder. In a perfect world, I'd go with the under 1.0 phos DM but there just aren't enough foods out there that are that AND low carb. I don't have to worry about low carb with Gus, but I do like to give him a good variety of foods.

Hope that helps :-D :-D

Chyna girl....it's DAY NINE

Thanks Marje. I'm not using a binder yet...her phos looked "normal" levels in the blood test. Should I worry about getting one? I'm trying to figure out a good time to go back for a check up blood test but with the anemia I'm just not sure when or how long to go, any advice on that? I don't want too much blood taken! I wanted to wait for the vitamin B to get into her system and hopefully show some results. It's only been a week since we started the Jarrow B-Right, and a month since the dental. But I don't want to wait too long in case stuff is going downhill and I need to add something to her regimen...I was thinking maybe another month or so, end of April or should I wait 3 months from the last blood test/dental, end of May? It's so hard to know :?

The most conservative way to do it is to try and get as close to 0.5% phosphorus on a DM basis as you can but strive to stay under 1% DM. If you are having a difficult time finding LC foods she will eat that meet the above, then perhaps also add a few that are less than 200mg/100 kcal. You should see some results either way you approach it but good phosphorus control early on is important. You don't want to use binders until you HAVE to (and sorry, my comment was just referring to what I do because I can't find enough foods under 1% DM that Gus will eat).

I would talk to my vet but even as far along as Gus is in CKD with an HCT of 39, I only have his bw done very three months.

Thanks again Marje! The vet never answered me when I let them know I was trying low phos food and vitamins first so I may have annoyed her by not taking the stimulating agent she wanted me to...I'll have to get ahold of them to see when bloodwork should be repeated, if I still have a vet there :? I was thinking 3 months as well...
