3/25 ELIAN: amps 475; 312 +3; 351 +5 DOSING HELP?

Nothing much to say other than he's been sky high again for the past 3 days. Wondering if its time to take him back up .25? Will see how he does today. Hope I get enough testing in between super busy work day and holiday tonight.

Updating for dosing help - is it time to take him back up .25 or keep him where he is a bit longer? Is it possible that his insulin is no longer any good? Started it on January 8 but it still has the band aid smell!

Thanks in advance. Gotta head out for holiday dinner - only an hour late so far! (Spring break so lots if dogs and cats to care for and of course they alwsys come first!!!!)

Hang in there Susie. If you need eyes on your dose, you can revise it on your topic line.

Looks to me like he could use a .25 increase Susie. He's been stuck for a while- well no green in over six cycles?. Wait for other opinions but when/if you increase...you know you gotta watch him...he goes down so fast!

Thanks Caryl - I figured I'd have to do an increase tonight. And of course I'll be watching him. Is it possible the insulin is coming to the end of its potency? It still has the "band aid" smell but has been open since 1/8/13. My understanding is that it should be good for a few more weeks, at least.

I really can't answer that as I've only used a vial once. I don't know how long they last. That's why I use pens. I have always used them up (well ok maybe twice I opened a new ones before the end thinking it was bad but it was probably not). Put a Need dosing help in subject line but not a 911, k? Ask again about the insulin too.

and it bumps your condo to the top when you do it... at least for the moment.... :-D
 
The only way to know if it's the insulin is to try new insulin. It can be very hard to see if there are crystals (aka "floaties") in you vial. I use the pens and I have gotten damaged insulin.

It looks to me like Elian bounced off of the blues on 3/23 -- that was a big drop from his AMPS. Elian seems to recover from a bounce after 48 hours. I would wait to see where his numbers are today and maybe think about increasing tomorrow.
