Theodore started Veraflox for his blood parasites 3/20 evening. Since then he has had pretty bad diarrhea and it seems his numbers have gone back up. I perviously gave antibiotics like Clavamox with no problems relating to his glucose readings. Is this a common side effect with antibiotics? In the past he has gotten bad diarrhea from metronitizol, antirobe, etc. Clavamox was the only one that worked well but I was advised he needs this or doxy for treatment and doxy carries risk of mouth ulcerations?

My question is if this could be the antibiotic throwing his numbers off or perhaps the petting? was it wrong to increase his dose?

Have you ever used s. boullardi? It can help with diarrhea. More information here. https://www.ibdkitties.net/supplements/probiotics/

Antibiotics can interfere with the right balance in the gut by killing the good flora too. Give probiotics a couple hours apart from the antibiotics. You can use a regular probiotic as well as s. boullardi.

You have almost no tests in the PM. It's also possible the antibiotic is working and he's dropping hard and night then bouncing. He got to 74 on 4.0 units of insulin - which earns a reduction when following SLGS, not an increase. Always know how low the dose is taking the cat before changing the dose. Increasing by 0.5 units is also not part of SLGS. Plus I see notes about him getting into kidney food which is high carb.

Proboost has maltodextrin in it, which boosts BG. And it can cause diarrhea.
 
@Wendy&Neko he’s been giving me a hard time with food, he’s been eating but so picky. Is it possible that pettinic can be increasing glucose as well? I think it also is contributing to diarrhea. The thing is he needs something for his anemia. I have not heard of a boullardi but will look into it. I was trying to give him forti flora which he used to love but now won’t eat anything it touches..I actually ordered proviable thinking to just pill the probiotics.
The reason I’ve tested less is I’m running low on strips and was trying to get more, it seems there are back orders at my vet but Amazon should be delivering me a new box tomorrow. It was delayed. Should I just dose 4 units in the morning in this case? The reason I did increase is because his numbers went up , I’m sure the food was a huge contributor.

My apologies I didn’t realize that’s not a brand but rather referencing probiotics

That's yet another reason most of us use the human meter.

I wouldn't have increased without knowing how low the dose is taking him.

Whenever you wonder, just look up the ingredients and google "does <name of ingredient> have carbs?". The answer is yes for vegetable glycerin.

Wow, I am going to talk to my vet tomorrow about finding some other options to help his anemia. I’m not sure if there is a b complex injection or iron but I will look into this

I will take a look at that option. Do you know if there is any options for iron that don’t include actual liver or hearts? I’m vegetarian so handling that is a bit much for me. Thank you
