Hi there. Thought I'd ramble on a bit about what her vet and I talked about yesterday.
We discussed treat options and he thinks the treats I'm giving (dehydrated duck breast and occasionally nuggets of Purina DM when she's really finicky) are keeping her BG levels high by using the insulin in her system that's left after combating the food intake. He wants to keep at the 0.8u PZI for at least another week to see if we get anymore of those low PS numbers. Then I should shoot with food unless it's below 150. Letting her go so high so fast is bad for her and the food is affecting her BG so fast that shooting that low of a number could counteract the food-spike and keep her insulin levels more normalized throughout the day, possibly giving longer duration.
We talked about a switch to Lantus, and we both agreed that I'm doing some very minor things that could affect her sugar levels, and changing those variables (like the treats) could be enough to extend her surftime. Also, after looking at the numbers, she might be having a very slight somogyi rebound when she dives hard into the greens, and that could be why she's pushing higher up on the PMPS those days. Also, to add to that, I'm testing her a lot more often when she dives like that, so she's getting a tiny amount of food intake, which could be driving that food-spike again.
It's a big rollercoaster, but I'm not really worried too much anymore about her ups and downs. I have to just relax and keep myself from obsessing over it too much I think and over-testing her. It's hard when she's so eager to be tested tho...
He drew blood for a test and will have the results probably the middle of next week. He also examined her mouth and we scheduled a dental on April 8th to clean up some of her teeth, in hopes that it will also help keep her BG in check.
