yesterday my vet agreed to give Cerenia a try.
We are to give flagyl once a day, b12 shot once a week, she prefers mirtzapine for appetite which I'm not sure I like. And I can give budesonide once a week if I want to.
I gave her a cerenia shot last night ( I'm requesting pills now instead since she isn't throwing up)
and she really hated that. It hurt. She pouted all evening.
I needed to give her a b12 shot and her adequan shot but we decided to wait since she's really upset.

I have a new food coming, kangaroo and squash by Rayne. Who knows if she'll eat it.

Since Shadow may have ibd, I am trying harder to get her to accept raw.
I've tried before but she didn't take to it . She doesn't mind a little occasionally.

However, she absolutely loves raw shrimp and even cooked crab legs.
I just gave her a serving of raw chicken ( darwin's) and added raw shrimp and she ate half of it.

Does shrimp or crab have the same problems as fish?
I've never seen any of you talk much about shrimp or crab.

I need to decide whether to try this method.

Please share....

I had a really defeatist attitude last night.....
Shadow's eyes look sunken to me. I really don't feel like this is ibd, just the beginning stages
of lymphoma. I think her lipoma is getting bigger.
I know I could start steroids and re-start insulin if needed but this time I don't have that insane
hunger to get her to be still to give her shots. (I guess it would return)
I always had to give her raw shrimp in her food to get her to stand still.
But She is so tramatized by it all, that I feel more like I'm torturing her with all these pills, shots, vet visits.

We trudge forward each day..... and keep trying.
But what a cruel cruel irony that when her day comes, that she has to have 2 last shots.......

Rhiannon,
I don't have advice on Shadow's health problems, but I am sending positive and healing energy to Shadow, and hugs to you both!

The amount of time it takes for seafood to have a harmful effect on the kidneys renal system is likely longer than the time it may take for the lymphoma to progress and become severe enough to make that decision. If she'll eat it, feed it.

Just what do you mean? Seafood is high in phosphorous and a kidney compromised cat have trouble clearing phosphorus and thus a low phosphorous dies is needed unless a phosphorus binder is used. However, I am not awar of any studies that show high phosphorous dies is harmful to the kidney s of cats without kidney problems.
I do agree that seafood can cause other problems in healthy cats

everybody just talks about fish with that..... the vit K issue, and now domoic acid is a new problem....for mussels, clams, fish and scallops.

the latest thing showing up in cat foods are mussels...

I don't know if vit K issue is also associated with crab and shrimp. guess i'll go google.

Elevated phosphorous in the non-kidney impaired, over years, can lead to calcifications in the kidney which increase likelyhood of CKD.

Back on topic. At this point, if she doesn't have kidney issues, I'd feed her whatever she will eat and whatever doesn't aggravate the bowel issue. Seafood can be an allergen for some. Have probiotics been of any use? Sometimes these can be helpful with food allergies too. Did she have any indications of lymphoma on bloodwork?

The first two links concern urinary stones/crystals not calcification of the kidneys/kidney degradation.
Is see nothing on page 2314 about dietary phosphorous causing calcification of kidneys.

Let me restate what I meant. If time is short, feed the cat whatever he'll eat because long-term consequences are no longer relevant.

are you giving her sub q fluids or able to get them? My vet had me give the cerenia shot INTO the bubble pocket left from the sub qs because she said the cerenia burns and injecting it into the liquid bubble from the SubQs would make it easier for kitty.

skinky never had any problems when i did it like that...

that would be a good idea....
she isn't needing fluids yet.

I got her to eat raw twice yesterday by shoving crab meat in it....
today.... I had to get shrimp in it but she did eat half of it....
and she's not wanting any canned right now.... ( rabbit)

she's sitting in the kitchen wanting shrimp or crab.... with no raw....

this is proving to be a challenge for me....
she's always had access to wet food and the tricks I read with raw is to pick it up ....
offer more later.... but use their hunger....

she just holds out...

our climate is cool enough that with water.... her canned food can sit on the bed for several hours....

so now I need training....

It's encouraging that she ate some of the raw, hopefully she kept it down and had no other GI effects! Does it make a difference to heat it a little bit? Some people have luck using the crumbs from Pure Bites on top of regular food. ...Or dried shrimp chips or bonito flakes.

Vines being sent- C'mon little girl, eat your fuds!
