Good morning,
I think I may have given a PFS (partial fur shot) this am as she jumped and pulled away. I know at least some insulin got in.
Guess we will see by the numbers. :arghh::banghead:
My mental state is not going well with the new hyperthyroid diagnosis. I’m so worried over Ivy.
My biggest concern is her not eating at a clinic if she does the I131 radioactive treatment and won’t eat while there without me for days without my intervening. I can’t imaging staffers doing what I know is needed to keep her eating and safe. It’s a huge commitment.

When she’s been sedated she has a hard time afterwards with appetite and I have to syringe feed her for 1 to 2 meals and cycles as she clears the meds from her system.

I will call a few clinics tomorrow in our area to get more information.

Barely slept, only about 2 hours, so exhausted.

Thank you all who reached out yesterday with your support. I am so grateful for all of you and your kind support at this difficult time. I will need to try to navigate yet another obstacle.

Wishing you all a safe surf and a very boring day (my biggest wish) :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh no! I missed this diagnosis. Sorry to hear! I too am worried about my Pepper. He is losing weight and throwing up more. His appetite is iffy. I called yesterday to see if his blood work was in and it is but no vet to go over it with so they couldn't tell me anything yet.

Sorry I can't help you with the hyperthyroid. I really don't know anything about it but will have to look up this radioactive treatment you mentioned.

Big hugs! Hopefully you can rest today a little bit.

So sorry to hear about the diagnosis! This must have been a shock and I hope you find some time to breath again.

Binie was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in january last year and after some month with thiamazol she also had Iodine treatment. In Germany, the treated cats have, due to government regulations, stay in isolation with no human contact for at least a week after the treatment. I was a nervous wreck and worried all the time, that she does not manage well. But she came out perfectly fine and when we came home it took her a day to be her old self again. She unfortunately developed hypothyroidism after the treatment but that is easy to treat and to control with meds once a day.

Are you sure she has to be sedated in the process? In Germany they do, also because of the safety for the staff, but I think I saw some videos from the US or Canada where the cat was not sedated in the process and all went fine.

I also know many cats which are regulated well with thiamazol. Maybe that is also an option.

Sending you some positive energy and hope you are doing well!

Good meowning Staci and Ivy!

I wish I would know what to say but I don't :(
I think the biggest thing is you should know we are all here with you and Ivy during this difficult time.
I trust and believe you will find the solution and treatment that would best suit her and her needs. I hope you can find a clinic that will give her the level of care she requires and you will feel at ease leaving her there. I know how incredible hard it is for us to see our fur babies not doing well. Sending you lots of love during this time.

Looking at her numbers not bad so far. Purrrrhaps the PFS didn't happen. But I guess will see later on.

Wishing you a very boring day.

I’m sorry you are dealing with all this but I know Ivy is in no better hands and you have a village here & will develop one in the thyroid group. I know this sounds patronizing but it is true: Breathe. When you get really stressed, try block breathing which is a four count breath in, hold four counts, release four counts. It resets your nervous system.

She unfortunately developed hypothyroidism after the treatment but that is easy to treat and to control with meds once a day.

Heike: in the US, if a clinic has scintigraphy capabilities so they can scan the thyroid first to determine how much miC of radioiodine to give, they have to anesthetize, generally, although the best clinic, HypurrCat in NYC does not, I believe. If they aren’t doing scintigraphy, generally no anesthesia is involved. It depends on the clinic but most won’t just to give the radioiodine injection. However, Ivy is very fractious and that is why she needs sedation even for basic exams and labs.

I have some thoughts for Binie on this and so I’ll post in your condo so I don’t hijack Ivy’s.

Thank you for the explanation! When I made my decision last year I watched every video I can find on the internet and I found everything in the US and Canada much more cat friendly than in Germany because the safety regulations are not that crazy. I really hope there is a good option for Ivy!

Are you sure she has to be sedated in the process?
Hi Heike, I don’t know anything yet. I have to make some calls to facilities and inquire. I haven’t even spoken with my primary vet yet.
But as Marje answered, Ivy needs sedation for any medical appointments. She’s just so fractious. It makes everything so much harder.
Thank you for sharing your experience with me. That’s so helpful.

Thanks so much, Karolina! I appreciate your support. It means so much. Hope you guys are doing well!

Unfortunately what little I do know is that no facility will allow visits from the family. That’s what makes this all so hard. She’s soooo dependent and attached only to me.
:(
Thanks for the support :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hello Staci. Just to say hi :bighug::bighug::bighug: and have a good day!
Marje is right with breathing exercises, i should think about that more often.
Do you know Bach Flower extracts? They really help me. I am very stressed with the idea of my daughter flying out of the nest next year and it's been helping a lot!

Hi Staci,
I've been thinking of you and Ivy.
It sounds like an overwhelmingly mountain of stress, but you and Ivy will get through this.
One thing at the time.
There got to be a way.
We are all behind you!
Love and hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci, This may sound stupid but I would tell whoever you decide to go with that what you said has to be done to make sure she eats .
I would say to them if it was your cat I'm sure you would feel the same way . Please try and relax just a little bit ♥
I'm just linking your previous post for you because I know you have a lit in your mind xoxo :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Nice action for a partial fur shot. ;)

Sorry to hear about yesterday's news. :bighug::bighug::bighug: I hope you can find a solution that works for both you and miss Ivy. My aunt had a hyperT cat treated with methizamole transdermal, passed away at the ripe old age of 23. In case you are interested, Dyana posted a lovely thread when her cat Ginger had i131, it's a good read should you decide that is the option for you. They were ready for the possibility of kitty not eating. Ginger is a calico - with a bit of calico purrsonality.

A small bit of silver lining for you - hyperthyroidism contributes to insulin resistance. When it's treated, kitties can see an improvement in their blood sugars.

Hi Staci :)
I'm so sorry to hear about Ivy's diagnosis. I know how deeply you care for her. Ivy is in the best hands possible. I know you'll do anything possible to give her the best treatment and best possible course of healing.
I can imagine the stress you're in. I would be as well. Please do take care of yourself too. Find your way to get some rest. two hours of sleep is really not enough.
If there's anyone who can figure out how to deal with this is you. We're all here behind you.
I'm thinking of you and Ivy and praying for her fast and full recovery.
Sending warm hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thanks so much, Cecile! And I totally understand the teen ager flying from the nest. I was a mess when my youngest son went off to college. I cried for months (we are so close).
I’m glad you are finding tools to be prepared of her leaving for school.
Hugs to you :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you, Shelly for your support and confidence. I really appreciate it. I do feel I need to make informed decisions and my head is spinning having to get up to speed on a whole new diagnosis so fast. It’s very scary and I feel very overwhelmed. I know you understand my feelings.
If only Ivy were an easier cat to treat, many things would go so much better for both of us :(
I appreciate your support always. Sending you hugs back :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Pmps 400. I can only assume it was a pfs this morning with that bounce up. She didn’t stay In not terrible numbers today (Libre numbers, so higher than they appear on SS on a handheld if tested) despite a PFS so I guess more insulin got in than I thought. Or, the depot was just very full. (What do I know?)
I do notice her drinking more than I think she usually does. Not a lot, but more. (And not just when she’s very high). I posted a question about that somewhat recently so I must have been noticing it. (I do keep a log of Joe much water is left in her bowl each time I feed her. I’m a data junkie. (Since I could never remember all the details). I keep a pee and poop log next to her litter box, too (crazy, right?)
:bighug::cat::bighug:

I’m so glad Wendy posted Dyana’s condo for you. Mike and I were in France when all of that happened so I didn’t even know it existed although I did know Ginger went to HypurrCat for her treatment. I hope it has given you some comfort if you plan to move forward with that.

You are a GREAT mom! I also keep a pee and poo log for both of my very healthy cats. It’s just smart to do so. They also get weighed every two weeks here at home because when you look at a cat every day, you don’t always notice weight loss or gain and it’s often the first sign of an issue.

I hope knowing all the support you have here has made the day a little better and she will get over the PFS soon enough. I wouldn’t be surprised if she gives you little break at all tonight! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I cried like a baby reading that. It really hit home. :(

I need to do this more. Very smart. She doesn’t love being weighted, but it’s doable.
The vet actually commented that she felt heavier than in January when we were last there. (And she was a little heavier). Not sure why, she eats no treats or table scraps.

Looks like she’s beginning to break her bounce. It was a brief calm before the storm (beeping sensor).
Hope you have a great night, Marje :bighug::bighug::bighug:

:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:Staci, my heart goes out to you! I'm sure you must feel so overwhelmed and scared, I would bet most of us who did I-131 had the same fears. It will be okay, you got this. Just know we are all with you in thought. I see you did post on the Hyperthoroid Forum, that is very best place to be, even if you don't want to be there.. Dr. Peterson himself used to post there too, he may still, I am not sure. And you are not crazy, I also keep a pee and poop log, well, I did for my Tiger and I keep one for my two civvie kitties now. (the vet inevitably will ask, so those two pieces of data are important in tracking the general health of any pet. Remember the 5 P's: Playing,Pooping,Peeping, Preening, and, oh nuts, I forget the 5th one:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: ) Love and hugs, Ruth:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Enough of my babbling, C'mon Ivy, lets work that juice!

That’s so sweet, Ruth. And you’re never babbling. Your words are so supportive and so appreciated. Thank you for making that time to check in. I can’t express how much I feel everyone’s love and support. It really helps to not feel so alone in this.
Yes, I do feel scared and overwhelmed.
Did you do this treatment also?
