3/23 Xander AMPS 160 +3 58 +4 85 PMPS 114 +3 91

Oof, you know I know how hard this is! Big hugs. I hope the mirataz helps. I would probably try the cerenia too - when Gen has been dealing with nausea, I've found that both that and ondansetron together have been necessary, though of course ECID.
Yeah he's refusing meals or only eating like 10g now.

I think im going to call the vet and see what they recommend. Last night/today are my first time using ondansetron and it hasn't really seemed to do anything. I previously used cerenia and its hard to tell if it helped because it was given along with mirataz, but I think thats the best next step.

He gets so mad when he doesn't want to eat and I keep trying. Then Flare comes to investigate and that makes him that much more angry. 😞

What dosage did you use for the ondansetron? I remember that what was originally prescribed to me seemed a little low, and increasing it helped. But Gen needed the cerenia too.

Oof, I know what you mean. Trying to force a car to eat when he doesn't want to can really backfire, but it's so stressful when he won't on his own! I'm glad he's at least eating a little. I would back off on trying to make him as it may have the opposite effect.

Much as I didn't enjoy it, it did help me to know that I could syringe feed if I really had to. Are you set up for that, just in case?

Big hugs and healing vines.

2mg of ondansetron. He is eating medium carb and treats excitedly which is good because he just dipped a little low

I'm so glad he's eating his MC!

That was Gen's original dosage too, and Wendy recommended that I increase to 4mg. Gen's weight at the time was about 12lbs. Am I remembering correctly that Xander's around the same range? You could probably increase too.

I am sorry to hear Xander is not eating great! :arghh:
Sending you big old vines and good wishes for better eating soon!!
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
I agree with Allie, 2mg sounds too low for ondansetron, especially given all of our "bigger" kitties.
I would also use 4 mg ondasetron, Albert.

If you think Cerenia works, give that too. We want him not to feel nauseous and want to eat!

I hope all goes well at the vet, please keep us posted!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

The vet said he looks perfectly healthy and is gaining weight. She says the doesn't think I need her at the moment and that im more in tune to him than she is with her own kids :p
She suggests giving the cerenia and more mirataz and says its perfectly fine to give them on an off as needed or increase the amount of mirataz if he needs it to keep eating. Also gave an estimate for an ultrasound as something else to pursue if he were to get worse over time.
She made a comment about how for pancreatitis in cats, its not like dogs where it can be helped with low fat diets which makes me feel a lot better after seeing that low fat recipe attached to the after visit paperwork last time.

He didn't do horribly this AM, about 70% of his AM amount. Hopefully the new tube of mirataz and a dose of cerenia will wake his stomach up. I'll keep up the cerenia daily for a few days.

If the vet said that he looks healthy and is gaining weight then all is good! I know how stressful is when a cat doesn't want to eat even more when you have BG to consider.
I have a little one (a 12y old but she is the baby of the house) who suddenly lost any interest to food. I was like those mothers always behind their children with a bowl and a spoon "please my baby, just one more for mama, bravo my girl, that's it! Now one more for grandma? And for your sister? And for the neighbour's ugly dog? No? Come on sweetie, you break my heart!" You see? I can relate :)
I hope he feels better in no time (and you with him):bighug:

Well, to your (our!) credit, a FD cat that is inappetent is a special kind of problem. And it's just a few steps away from being a finicky eater to not eating, and many of us have walked down that road, and it's a bumpy one, so we like to stay ahead of the not-eating curve. Plus, eating is a normal life activity for every living being, and when an animal isn't eating there is a reason, and I think we need to consider what that is. *climbing off my soapbox*

Hoping the meds will do their job quickly and get him back on track! 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 You're doing a great job, Albert.

All in all a good report.
At least she knows how in tune you are with your cats 😻😻
Glad you should be able to manage with a bit more meds to keep Xander eating well.
I’m sorry it’s a struggle. I can totally relate. And so many of us here can too.
Wishing you both a speedy return to a better appetite 🍀🍃🍀🍃🍃🍀❤️‍🩹💕💗

So well said, Mary! 💝

I agree, its always hard to express that technically he's still eating but its a concern because its a change from usual. I mostly agree with her though that he's not in dire straits enough to need anything else from her, I just need to figure out what meds work for him and when I should proactively know when to give them. That's the hardest part for me, taking all of these decisions into my own hands and trying things out and feeling that level of responsibility for his well-being. But as I learned with managing the diabetes and sugar levels, that self-reliance is needed because of how well we know our cats.

That's why I love it here with you all! It's hard for others to understand the struggle and worry. 🤗

Nice job today! Interesting about the ondansetron not working, I feel like I’ve noticed that too. Pookey’s big though so maybe I’ve been under dosing or not frequent enough. Hopefully you can get the right combination to get him back to normal and through whatever this is. Would the ultrasound be for IBD?

I feel exactly the same as you. We are so like-minded and others on the outside of our bubble “just don’t get it”.
We can speak freely here and we are all understood and will support and help each other.
You’re an amazing cat dad and doing a wonderful job for your boys 💗💕💗💕💗💕

Yep, to rule out IBD. She didnt seem to think it's something he needs right away, but something to consider if he starts having more issues.

Despite the extra carbs earlier and BG spike to 137 after the vet, we got back down to a usual PMPS. He was begging for food for a while before PMPS and finished a very large meal of 40g (well, large by Xander's standards). Let's keep it going Xander 😺
