Good morning. Choco is doing well this morning and just had a nice big breakfast. I only had a can of FF left (whoopsie) so after he and MoMo ate that, they were obviously still hungry so I fed them Friskies Ocean Whitefish Dinner (I believe that's what it's called). I checked on Binky's list and it seemed to be okay as far as the protien and carbs. I do have a question about food because I really think I need to find some that is a little easier on my pocket with the amount I'm going through. Is anything on Binky's list that is higher in protien but lower in carbs (say around 4-7) okay for him? I do remember someone saying they used Friskies at one point but just wanted to maybe get everyone's thoughts. Thanks guys and have a great hump day!!! :mrgreen:

Yes, any of the low carb foods on the chart are fine. you may want to look at special kitty (Walmart) or sophisticat (Petsmart) if you have either store nearby. I know they are popular choices with many here.

Thanks Christie. I do live by a Walmart and I know they have Special Kitty. It just seems like a lot of people use FF and when I have been looking up FD, I'm always seeing FF as the topic of food so I just wanted to make sure all the rest were okay as well. I do remember reading something that talked about Special Kitty not having all the same nutrients that FF has. I just want to make sure Choco is eating well and if that means continuing to buy FF I will but was hoping I could try out some others. I hope you and Willie have a wonderful day. I'm tele working today so I'm hoping to be able to visit some Condos.

Hi, if you have a PetsMart, some of the Sophisticat brands are very good and low carb. You can see quite a few flavors on Janet & Binky's chart to choose. Have a nice day.

Maverick is on special kitty 100% and his bg does better on this too. He is an extremely picky eater but eats this consistently.

You may want to ask about dosing in a couple days too. All that green on Choco's spreadsheet and just a couple blues in the past week. You may get to shave his dose.

As far as a reduction it looks like his numbers may be heading that way. :mrgreen:

I don't have any answers on the food question. I feed Putty Wellness although I think he is not a big fan anymore so I may need to give him more variety.

As long as a food meets federal regulations (FDA and/or USDA) it is nutritionally complete. The formulas for any particular brand of cat food are proprietary but all food needs to contain appropriate ingredients like taurine.

I think you are OK to shave Choco's dose. He's been in normal/mostly green numbers for a week which qualifies for a dose reduction. Congrats!

Good morning guys ... looking good this morning choco! We use special kitty brand, turkey and giblets .. mocha loves it .. we used the beef and liver dinner meal for her MC and then FF gravy lovers for her HC ... she is missing some teeth and has a hard time chewing anything with chunks in it ... have a great day guys!

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I'll get a few different brands and see how it goes. Sienne, what exactly do you mean when you say shave? I know it is going to be less insulin but about how much less? Yay, that's very exciting news. I'm going to go let Choco know. :mrgreen:

So I'm not sure how to put the shaved amount on my spread sheet. I gave him a little less than .50. I hope I didn't give him too little. :? Can someone help me with what I should put down?

As Natalia said, I just put S or F next to the dose. The important thing is measuring the same dose consistently....not so much what you call it. ;-)

Eeeeeeehhhhhh, okay, I will not freak out about measuring the right dose. Did I shave too much, did I shave too little or did I shave just the right amount??? Dun, dun duhhhh, I guess we'll see how Choco does. nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile
