AMPS this morning is at 391 Gave 1 1/2 unit.
Have question about different results from both ears. This AMPS was somewhat strange because on the L ear Loki was 422, and on the R he was 391, now my thinking is maybe it's a blood pressure issue like people, when one arm is higher than the other at times for results. Could it be the same thing with cats and their ears?

If your numbers were drastically different, that could be an issue. But those two numbers are actually pretty close to each other. His "actual bg" is probably in the middle of them. These meters are not perfect. But they are close enough for our purposes.

Sometimes a weird number can be just because of the size of the sample. When I got an excessively large blood drop (oops, hit the vein!), I'd see a higher number. With Bob, his left ear always seemed to bleed better, so I stuck with the left ear unless I got a really strange reading. Then I poked the right ear to see what it said. Then I picked the number I liked best

I have noticed a difference in sample size meter readings too. But I would chalk up this difference in ears to the meter variance.

If I get a wonky number I test a second time. If it's way off the first number, I test again and go with an average of two closest numbers.

I think I remember reading that these meters can be off by 20%.

Michelle,
As frustrating as this might be, keep on with what you're doing. I think this morning's number was the lingering effects from however low he might have gone a couple nights ago when he gave you that low AMPS that was too low to shoot. If he's been bouncing, it looks like that might be clearing.

Carl, can you read my mind through cyber land? I swear I was ready to ask if I should up his dose by 1/2? Looking at his numbers I though he seems stuck in a pattern but I am so glad you responded and set me straight. I also have gotten into the habit of testing him before bed and posted those numbers also.
Thanks again.

I haven't quite mastered that super-power....yet...
The numbers today weren't fantastic, but it's lower tonight than this morning, and it looks positive to me. Plus I feel that with prozinc, if you are considering an increase, it's best to do it on a cycle where you can test without sacrificing sleep.
Also, if it looks like a bounce is clearing up, that's not the best time to up the dose. It can make for an exciting night, but not the best type of excitement
