Checkers' Laura here. After a weekend bounce into the 400s and a uti diagnosis Sunday, Checkers is now at low BG rather early on -- especially since he usually has a late nadir. I'm at work, but my husband is there to be able to monitor him. Can we hold off doing anything and check him in about 20 minutes ---- or how long in between checks should we let him go? He's alert and perky (still bad neuropathy though). How low should we let his numbers go? He loves food and his numbers respond quickly to food.

Sorry about not getting back to you until now. Saw that you shot a sk 1.5u and DH will be around to monitor. Looks like Checkabunny is coming down, so good that you got your food, your strips, and someone to check! Surf the greens, CB!!!

Actually, I agree with everything Barb said but I'm a little more conservative and you've not had to manage low numbers -- I'd check in 30 min.

I'm at work and won't be able to follow closely, but here are the written instructions for handling low numbers.

Hi Laura - I think I'm a bit cautious too and would check in 30 minutes, just to make sure Checkabunny doesn't go too low. You can always feed each check/test with a little food each test until his numbers even out or start to rise. You won't need much - a teaspoon or two. If they get too low I'd switch to some MC or HC food. Just keep repeating the procedure: test, feed until you have a steady surf. You can post each result so someone can help you if needed. Ill be gone for a bit - there are others that can help.

Silly me -- I posted a reply in the wrong place! Thanks for the "don't panic" Sienne. Ok, I'm trying to not panic and we'll watch him surf! Yippee for Checkers!

Does the pain killer we started giving him last night (every 12 hours also) have an effect on insulin?

Update: he's at 71 +2.75 and going to get a little snack or his regular protein food. Num!

no real advice here, but wanted to chime in on how nice these numbers are looking!

Checkers is at 62 +4 (happy guy -- he get's more of his regular food!)

With these kind of numbers throughout the day -- getting some of his regular canned food with each blood draw, should Checkers' PM shot be light -- either down 0.25 or shaved slightly? He has a 70 at +6.
