So we just returned from the new vet, who was surprisingly supportive of our little online community here (YAY ). I am still somewhat in a hurry up and wait mode as blood results wont be back until tomorrow. I tested his BG before the visit and it was 282. Am curious to see what their results are. They also did a Fructosomine (spelling???) test. The doctor suggested that maybe his diet of Fancy Feasts isn't enough to keep him regulated and suggested feeding him DM and sent me home with three cans to see if he'd even eat it. I gave him a spoonful (so as not to totally mess up his system) and he gobbled it down like crazy. I vaguely recall that that food is not well received by most on FDMB's. Is that true? She said it's better than FF nutritionally etc (blah blah blah vet speak). Happily the exam did not turn up anything wrong (which I had suspected) like infections of any kind. Which still leaves me with no good reason as to why Tiki's numbers are creeping back up. Sigh...

it should end up looking like this.

I bet someone has done simpler directions and will post them for you.. I hope your stay is so short you don't ever get it down before you scamper right back to the falls.

DM is actually pretty low in carbs (3%). The problem, like Deb noted, is that it's not a high quality food. For less money, you could be feeding Wellness or EVO, both of which are human grade proteins. Wellness is 4% carb and EVO 95% turkey and chicken is 2%. The vet also makes $$ selling you prescription food.

The funny thing regarding the vet's diatribe about DM food was she said exactly what y'all said but positioned it as being nutritionally superior to the others, it's been tested, created by nutrionists yada yada yada. I can always fib and say he won't eat it. Lucky for me is Tiki is a really good eater. He usually likes everything and rarely fusses with what I give him. Vet said she thinks he is over weight (18lbs) and would rather see him around 15lbs. Since this whole thing started I have given him 3 cans a day of FF and he is always bugging me for more so I am always afraid he isn't getting enough but have never given him more. Once a day he gets dehydrated chicken treats. Now that his numbers are higher he seems ravenous but I still haven't given him more food.
