Hi folks. We've been using Lantus for one full week now, and I thought things were leveling off, but I got a Hi reading this evening pre-shot. I'm using the Relion Confirm meter that you all provided.
I'm going to test Skipper again in in 2 hours and again before bed, but is this normal? This is his first Hi reading since 3/10. His spreadsheet link is below. Yes, I'm still weaning him off the dry food, and I'm working on that.

Thanks!

(Housekeeping alert: Please remember to put Skipper's name in your subject line and to link your previous condo: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=66363&p=722482#p722482)

I wish I had a good answer to your question. The reason I can't answer is that without some spot checks, there's not a means to narrow down the possibilities. If I had to play the odds, I'd guess that Skipper may have been in the yellows or even blues and then bounced into high numbers.

I also suspect you're thinking along PZI terms whereby dosing is based primarily on your pre-shot numbers. This is not the case with Lantus. Dosing is based on the nadir. Pre-shots are important in that they let you know that it's safe to shoot. I really want to encourage you to try to get at least one spot check in both the AM and PM cycle. Without that information, it's not safe to make a dose change.

    Beth!

I change Binksy's name around just so folks don't get bored!

Glad Sienne weighed in...she's very knowledgeable!!

Hi, Skipper! and now may we see some lower numbers, Skipper??

i've forgotten to put punkin's name in too! and i noticed a long-time member has the month of february as her date today.

there's a ton to learn - we don't worry about a single test but try to look at the overall picture.

how is skipper acting? is he eating ok? we call this a WCR (whole cat report) - let's see - is he preening (grooming)? peeing, pooping, playing and eating? i think there's a "p" word for eating, but can't think of it! if he's feeling like normal that helps us not worry about a single high number.

great job surviving the first week! the beginning is definitely the hardest. it'll get easier. :YMHUG:

Thanks, all. Skipper is acting normally. In fact, he's lying on the table right now playing with my pencil. I'll take his BG again before bed and see if it goes down. I just don't really know what to expect with this, and I was getting so encouraged that his BG was in the mid 300s. The roller coaster continues!

Hi Beth and Skipper- Just stopping by to say "welcome!" This is the best place for you guys to be...the support and knowledge knows now boundaries, so keep asking questions and someone is sure to know the answer and will point you in the right direction. It may take awhile for the rollercoaster to settle down, but you will get there! The good news is that Skipper is feeling well and happy, so always keep that in mind.

Have a great evening, and I hope we see more of you guys around here!

Amy
