yesterdays numbers:6:00 AM

AMPS 358.2
+2.5 282.6
+6 288
PMPS 280.8
+ 3 271.8
+ 4 199.8

Nice run of yellow with a dip into blue last night, maybe even lower after +4.

This morning starting mid pink - probably a bit of a bounce. Happy happy cat again this mroning. Clear eyes, bright, alert, bossy. Has had half a can of Friskies salmon and his lysine and is off outside checking on the world.

Hoping he surfs a bit more yellow again today. We are heading up island to go look at a sailboat so won't get +6 today, probably get a +8 though.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Yes, probably a bit of bounce. His numbers are sure trending in the right direction. Great WCR too. :-D

drat, hate to see that red as a PMPS. He had his vet follow up visit this morning. She said he looked good, wants to check him in four weeks to see if the BUN and Creatinine numbers have come down. Also broke the $$$news that he will need another extraction!!!!! grrr. she said it's not bothering him now, but that in 6 months time she would like to remove the other lower canine. Said it's beginning to decay on the inside, but at the moment wasn't 'open' to the outside world like the other one and she didn't want to remove it this time around because she felt it was too much in one go for the cat. Sigh, so another $1000 in the summer I guess, least we have some warning! Obviously wants his numbers lower before then but thinks he's doing well. Said that 2 out of the 3 kidney indicators were high, but that the third one, whic was the critical one, was low, suggesting that they might improve as his sugar levels come down. If not, she wants to start him on somethign called Azodyl which sounds like a heavy duty pro biotic to help with nitrogen removal in his gut????

We got some 'Healthy Mouth' which she told us is the latest greatest thing for cats (and dogs), sort of like a mouthwash for cats you just add to the drinking water, and it helps with plaque build up and kills mouth bacteria. He actually seems to like it too so that's good. Checked the ingredients and nothing evil in it, mostly natural herbal stuff (clove, cinnamon etc) and no sugars.

He looks healthy and happy tonight. She felt he was still a little dehydrated but of course he did the usual complete 'melting cat' routine at the vet, honestly, you can watch this cat deteriorate by the second when you take him to the vet. She thought his coat looked good, his weight was good and overall he obviously was happier without that nasty tooth.

I'm hoping this red tonight is a combo of a bit of a bounce and some stress from the vet visit. I didn't get to test him today at +6 because we were away up island. Will get a +4 at the least tonight.

Hey pip? I did not realize rupert had kidney issue?!

Can you get a copy of renal values pre and post dental and share them with us?

Sorry, I thoughtt you knew about the flat yellow cycles. :) glad julie explained.

Re: 3/21 Rupert AMPS 360,+2 322, PMPS 431

vet doesn't think he DOES have a kidney issue, but wants to make sure... says levels high probably due to dehydration and that they were lower than his initial visit in January with other vet..... I don't have previous bloodwork but his latest labs are in the spreadsheet. gotta head out to a bday party, back in a while!

Re: 3/21 Rupert AMPS 360,+2 322, PMPS 431

that would make me very unhappy that the vet hadn't taken every single bad tooth out at the time of the dental. punkin had 2 extractions at once. i've heard up to 7, i believe.

so she's telling you it has to get worse before she will take it out?

i'm trying to recall - is this a regular vet or a veterinary dentist?

Re: 3/21 Rupert AMPS 360,+2 322, PMPS 431

Ok, just checking because I know he had the metacam and wanted to make sure there was not a difference in kidney values. I would still recommend getting a copy from the old vet, for your own records.

FWIW, converting your values into American numbers would turn them into something like this:
creatinine 2.13 (upper end normal on is 2.1 according to what you wrote)
BUN 46
phosphorus 3.5
potassium 4.0
If you want to convert on your own in the future:
http://www.felinecrf.org/diagnosis_test_ranges_factors.htm#different_systems

BUN and Creatinine are the typical indicators of kidney disease. Potassium plays a role in kidney disease, but it is not the main thing you look at. Here is information on blood values indicating CDK http://www.felinecrf.org/diagnosis_blood_chemistry.htm

Also, if you are interested in learning more about Azodyl, you can do so here:
http://www.felinecrf.org/treatments_waste_products_regulation.htm#azodyl

None of the bloodwork sticks out as terrible at all. I do think it is a wise idea to retest those values in a month or so.

Hope you had fun at the party!!!

thanx for all the info guys. Yes, a tad choked that the vet didn't deal with the other tooth at the same time, but on the other hand, she was monitoring him closely thru the surgery and perhaps was a little worried about keeping him under for any longer. She is THE dental expert in BC so I trust her judgement re the teeth I guess.

bit sad to see that solid red tonight, but am assuming it's a bounce from yesterdays dive to the blues... fingers crossed for better numbers tomorrow. He sure looks bright eyed tonight and is insisting it's time to go and feed the horses now so I'd better go out with him! have a good evening everyone. TTYL.

Vyktor had 7 out in one hit BUT it may have made a difference that Rupert's numbers are still so high. Vyktor's vet didn't want to touch him if he could avoid it until the numbers came down a bit. It does seem silly on the surface of it though to put him through another anaesthetic rather than grab that extra tooth while they were there. Maybe you should explore this further with the vet and if they don't have a good reason for it, at the least you may be able to get a discount on the second time around...
