Yesterday on The Adventures of Ruby-Doo, we had some evening shenanigans that went on for a little while but we managed to keep up the surf.

This morning Ruby threw up her whole breakfast again. I replenished her bowl with half of what I ordinarily give her and she just returned to her bowl to eat it all. I have a strong suspicion that she's suffering from an acidic stomach as the last meal she ate was 7 hours ago, and she inhaled her food in about 30 seconds before regurgitating it. I may have to get up and feed her at +9 to prevent this from happening. Hopefully this won't affect her numbers.

Healing thoughts for all of the sick kitties and hugs to you beans. Have a restful Sunday, everyone. :bighug:

Awwww sorry about the acid tummy. That's exactly the reason why I give butters a snack somewhere around +8 or +9ish. It has worked so well to keep it at bay, though.
Possible this morning was a scarf & barf? Inhaling all the food in 30 seconds sounds like scarf & barf to me.
Nice surf last night! Have a great day.

Ruby did this two days ago as well, so I attributed the scarf and barf to acid. Or do you think they are two different things, and the acid would make her not want to eat? Either way, I think a late meal in her PM cycle might be the answer.

Butters has acid tummy and this manifests in the form of white, foamy vomit if she goes too long without food. Ever since I've been giving her smaller frequent meals, it hasn't happened <anti-jinx>.
But inhaling a meal so quickly can lead to immediately throwing it up, hence the term "scarf and barf". This happens to @JaxBenji and I think Susanne feeds his main meal a little bit at a time to slow him down.

yes, Jax is a scafer and barfer - he occasionally barfs immediately after eating versus the white foamy vomit Lyla describes. He has his own contest on how fast he can eat his breakfast in particular - I think he's constantly trying to break his time . I feed him spoonfuls of his breakfast (& dinner...his two larger meals) ever few minutes to slow him down - some people recommend a golfball in the bowl which I need to try because me spooning spoonfuls of food every few minutes is not my idea of fun. I used to give a +9 snack thinking it would help this but it didn't; for Jax, removing the +9 seemed to help his insulin duration.

Surf safely, Ruby, and have a good day, Katherine :bighug:

Thanks for sharing your experiences, @Butters & Lyla and @JaxBenji! You're right, this morning was a total scarf and barf, and I knew because Ruby ate some more immediately after. When she threw up on Friday she had trouble eating for the rest of the day, so that was a different scenario. When I saw how quickly she was eating her venison this morning I had a sinking feeling I knew what would transpire. I may just feed her a much smaller meal for her preshot and save the bigger meal for her +2/+3 meal when onset happens.

It's always something.

Ai, sorry to hear about the scarf and barf.
I got Buddy this feeding mat to slow him down:

It's a bit of a mission to clean though so I didn't use it very much. He's not quite as manic about eating anymore, thank goodness. He hissed at it the first time, but got used to it quick when he realized there was food on there. Maybe something to try?
That mat is really cute! However the thought of cleaning bits of raw ground meat off that is daunting indeed. :)

Poor little baby. How is Ruby doing now? My cat Whisper with IBD had this problem - scarf and barf. ALL THE TIME. I solved it by only giving a teeny bit at a time, since she was going to inhale. I can't remember what else I did to help her out (she is the black cat in the pic with Pearl, Pearl's sister. We lost her due to multi system failure in September. She was 18).

Thanks, Margaret. It seems the small meals are the way to go. As it is Ruby eats 6 meals a day--that sounds ridiculous to most people, even people with cats. Meanwhile, Olive puked up all of her dinner. It's always something. I need to get that CAT WAITSTAFF t-shirt pronto. o_O
