Kind of a quiet morning here...breakfast & +2 mm fed, bellys rubbed, toys tossed around the living room. ;-)

I had asked a question last night about Lantus shelf-life in regards to Felix's dose. If experienced eyes can find time to review my last post from last night, I'd appreciate some input today. Thanks.

Good morning guys ... what are you doing up on the pink floor felix? Silly cat ... not sure if I can answer your question or not, but we only ever got 28 days out of a pen for mocha, then her numbers would creep up .. and if she was do for a dose increase around the same time as a new pen, we generally changed out the pen and then waited a day or two to see if that made a difference in her numbers .. is that what you were asking?

Oh, and a few days ago I think you asked where in MI we were at? We are in lapeer, right in the thumb .. I think I answered that in someone elses condo, but not sure if they were the ones who originally asked :lol:

Hi back, you Trolls! :smile: We weren't the ones who asked, but nice to know. We live in the U.P., but our godson's family lives in Lapeer & Hubby and I grew up in Caro. Small World.

Yup, you answered my question, Thanks! We're on a vial and planning to switch over to a pen. I figured I'd wait a couple days on the new juice, to see if that made a difference before considering an increase. Good to know that the pen is a bit more regimented in doses/days available compared to the vial. We still have so much juice left-what a waste of money!

Hi Jenner,
I don't think it's so much an issue of being "regimented" in doses and days, than it is simply one of having less to discard when/if the insulin begins to lose its power. Devon's advice to wait a couple of days after starting with the new pen before increasing Felix's dose makes sense. That way you will know if the culprit was the old insulin pooping out.
Good luck with the new pen. You use it with a syringe (the same as you do with the vial). Be careful, don't shake it up, and never inject insulin back into a pen (or a vial, for that matter). Keep it in the 'fridge. Lots of people get many more than 28 days.

Like other's said I think you should start a new vial/pen soon.
This vial may have lost it's potency or Felix is not getting enough insulin.

Quiet is good sometimes. :-D

Your link to yesterday's condo for Felix isn't working.

I was thinking about a vet dermatologist. Or maybe your vet could consult with one. There are SSRI type-meds that can help with the anxious licking. I would definitely post on Health and check with Christie.

As far as dose, if you want to wait until you get new insulin, that's fine. With numbers in the pink, I'm not sure I would worry about new insulin and increasing the dose but you've got to be comfortable with what you're doing.

Good luck Jenner. You'll probably waste insulin in a pen, too, since he's on such a low dose....very frustrating regarding the expense. I save my old pens that aren't empty yet and we use them to practice doses on since colored water is not the same consistency. At least I get SOME use out of them.

Switched from Old Vial to New Lantus Pen for PMPS. Stayed at .75u. Plan to stay w/dose for at least 1-2 days to see if insulin was old.
 
Hubby/Jenner: to insert yesterday's condo link, follow these steps:

1. go to yesterday's condo, highlight the browser address, right click, and "copy"
2. open up NEW TOPIC
3. click on "URL" tab above
4. paste yesterday's condo browser address in so it looks like this:
Yesterday or Yesterday's condo or whatever you want
5. I usually bold my title so to do that, you would put the title in between the bold symbols from above
