When cats get to 6U, we ask caregivers to test for secondary conditions that can cause insulin resistance like Acromegaly and Insulin Auto Antibodies. Dental issues can also cause issues with regulation. Maybe you can get that checked out?Is it normal that we have to go that high? I'm worried that there might be something else going on. My vet was worried too when she was not regulated with 2 or 3 units, but by then I did not test more than what she asked me to: once a week, sometimes once every two weeks. I know that before she was diagnosed they told me she needed a dental cleaning, but then my vet said she wanted to wait until her blood sugar was lower constantly. I wonder if it's the reason we cannot get her to stay low.
I have wondered about the same thing. Especially in cycles when she is lower at +2. Maybe you could set an alarm for +6 and get a test on some nights?I have a feeling that her nadirs are at night. I will try to test her late today, and maybe even later over the weekend if I can stay awake!
