Good morning Lantus Land! We are dropping in to give an update on the family here.
Spot is doing great. Mostly green and low blue numbers on f.5u of insulin. He's went down to 52 one day and there have been one or two 57-59 days in there, but nothing that warrants a dose crease. Seems that is a good dose for him at this point. Last night Spot had a little new moon wonkiness and gave me a 130 at +3.5. White kitty syndrome strikes again!! Occasionally Spot puts on his zippy pants and zooms around here like there is no tomorrow. Spot and civvie Ali seem to be getting along nicely lately. She licks him and he licks her...doesn't last long, but just the fact that Ali interacts with him in this way is nothing short of a miracle! Last week Spot had a little bout of constipation, but with a little help from a tad more miralax, my boy was happy and eating within 24 hours. Spot is also continuing with his kitty kisses during the night, his way of waking me up for his personal escort to his timed feeder. Most of the nights I have to give the feeder a little help to open (because it's not quite time, but close enough), and most nights this happens at least twice....between midnight and 1 am and 3 am -4 am. Lucky me!!!! Spot is also enjoying the warmer weather. he's been hanging outside on his chair for the past few days and loving every single minute of it.
Ralphie is doing much better, except his bg's are being effected by the pred. He is running between 200 -260. I am slowing decreasing his pred to see how he does. Today I lowed his dose from .3cc 2x daily to .2cc twice daily. Hopefully by the time I decrease to Nothing, whatever ails him will have been cured and he will be able to live w/o the pred. I worry about his bg's but vet, at this point, feels that insulin won't help unless we discontinue to pred. Other than the high bg's Ralph isn't showing much signs of diabetes. He is drinking water, but not to excess. He pee's tons, however, that has always been Ralph. Seems he holds it a long time then breaks the damn. He is walking pretty good. He does have some arthritis in his hips/back legs, so he's going to walk a little funny. He's been jumping up and down from our recliners and the bed.
Mom, Molly and Ali and all doing well. Mom's going to have some surgery on her rotater cuff at the end of the month on her left shoulder. She's been in some discomfort for a while now, so this should help her. Molly is happy that the weather is nicer also, since this means that she gets to go to the dog park. Ali is just as zippy as usual and for some reason has taken to being civil (for the most part) to Spot.
Me, well, I am doing great also. I was diagnosed with type II diabetes a few weeks ago and am trying to get a grip on it. Thank goodness I have some insight due to Spot and I have a brother he has been diabetic for a few years, so he's being a great help w/what type of foods are best to eat or stay away from. All I can say is that this diabetes stuff just isn't working for me, lol! But, it has also been a blessing in disguise....I have been saying for years that I need to lose weight and get more exercise and now, I can't make excuses. I've also been working tons...only 3 days off this month...one of them being today. Even though most of the OT I've been doing isn't what I would like to be doing and wears me out so that not much work gets done around here, and on my days off I only want to have pajama days, the pay check is nice!
My heart goes out to every one of our family members who have lost their kitties. So many have crossed the bridge in the past two and a half months and so much sadness has been around. My deepest sympathies go out to all of them. I can only hope that the memories of your loved one will soon overshadow the pain and grief you are feeling now. Hugs to you, my friends.
Hi again, ebeyone! Boy what a great time we had last night celebrating the new moon and going to camp stu to remember out GA frienz. How breath taking it was to see all of our frienz happy and painfree...fills me heart with so much love, mixed in wit some sadness cuz I know dat deer beans are so sad. Now it's time to plan Mocha's OTJ party....and we gets to spend more times together!! C you all soon, after I hab a nice long napus!!
