Hope everyone is having a lovely day! Late post here, wanted to wait until after the vet appointment.

Binx had some yellows last night, but he's been jumping up at +5. Wondering if I should shift the +2 snack until later but will wait a few cycles before testing.

Vet visit went okay today. His weight is stable, which is great news! The first several months after diagnosis, he dropped a lot and it took time to get him back to a good place. Physically, she said he felt/looked good, but we're doing a blood test and urine test just to be certain there's nothing lurking. It was close to his yearly check-up anyways, so would've done them soon enough.

Her one possible theory for his vomit/blood is that it's hair related, especially since he has been known to eat my hair too :banghead: She's recommended we try something called Aventi (helps pass hair through BM). Apparently a staff member has spoken to a rep and cleared it as safe with diabetics, but I will certainly be doing my own research tonight before moving forward! If anyone has any experience, would welcome the insights! It says made in Canada, so not sure if it's wildly used.

Safe surfing into tonight, all! :bighug:

@Diane Tyler's Mom GA I see on an older post, you used to use Petroleum Jelly - is that just straight Vaseline? Interesting natural remedy!

Thank you!! The US is definitely getting hit with those egg prices, not great :(

We've had people here make dried egg yolk powder from that recipe. Including a vet who was posting here for a while! Probably cheaper to make in Canada than ordering from the US - and also paying for shipping.

Do you have a link to the Aventi product, or more of a name I can look up? My vet gave me something to try some year ago, but can't remember what it was.

That's funny, I read that post the other day looking for something and thought, no way, that must've been a typo?

    Glad everything looks good! :bighug:

If you've ever looked at hairball pastes for cats, such as Laxatone, often white petroleum USP is the first ingredient.

Thank you, Wendy! And thanks @squeem3 for sending the product link! I think I’ll start with petroleum and then figure out how to make dried egg yoke and try that too.

I couldn’t find much product info online or notes related to FD, but was reading the ingredient list and it has (inactive) ingredients of caramel and glycerolmonostearate. Caramel certainly screams sugar and glycerolmonosterate comes up as a sugar alcohol (no idea) but with a high carb content. All signs are pointing to nope - going to flag to my vet.

Right! Didn’t realize it was edible but sounds like it’ll be helpful.

    Thanks, Laurie :cat:

Petroleum jelly isn't edible (pretty sure there are warnings on the label to not ingest it) but a small amount won't hurt a cat. All the jelly will do is sort of lubricate the insides so hairballs pass easier. Egg yolk powder and egg yolk lecithin supposedly break down the ingested fur so it's easier to pass. Vetbasis was the go-to hairball product years agon on FDMB but it was discontinued after some time :(

Dang :( Too bad they discontinued.

Thanks for the explanation of each. That's really helpful - especially because they achieve different things and could be impactful together.
