Hi Guys,
Ruben likes to keep me on my toes, but so far so good.
I need to come up with feeding schedule since I'm going back to work full time starting this Wed. <ugh! Love my job, hate leaving Ruben. :-D
Ruben tends to graze so,
As of now I put out a can of FF in the morning (10am)
then add another can when it gets low (1pm-4pm) <this depends on him
then pull up at +7/+8
Then give last can at pm(10pm)
I usually feed a little fresh at +7/+8
but haven't been home these last 3 days to feed fresh.

My work schedule is screwy...
M/W/TH
7:15-1pm
2pm-7:15

Tue.
1pm-7:30pm

Sat

8:15am-1pm

I don't have a timed feeder, can get one tomorrow if you reccomend it. Completely confused how I should be feeding
Also keep in mind I'll have no idea what Ruben/Maple is eating
I feel like Ruben's been eating more at one sitting (seems hungrier)in the last 3 days(trying not to borrow trouble) but can't help but worry what that means...lol Oh I'm such a nut job...
He eats I worry, he doesn't eat I worry more. lol
Love you guys
Sending healing #'s to all kitties and making them peaceful numbers for the beans

Hey Sam

To me one of the greatest things of OTJ is not worrying about schedules. Shots, tests, +2s, nadirs, GONE. History.
A normal life again (or what passes for one around here ;-) )

Our gang obviously have 2 rigidly scheduled meals - one when I get up and another before I go to bed

The rest of the time is fluid, if I come into the kitchen and have 8 piteous eyes looking at me, or
several cats lying unconscious beside empty bowls, I feed them ;-) If I'm going to be out for more than a few hours, I
put some food out even if there's still a bit left. Just common sense stuff really.

You sweated blood to getting Ruben OTJ, now enjoy it :-D My 2 cents ;-)

What I did when Chuck was first diagnosed and I worked all day was freeze cans of FF. I'd line a cookie sheet with foil or wax paper, open a can and dump it on the sheet, cut it into 4 pieces and spread the pieces out so they didn't freeze together in a clump. After a while, you can dump 12 cans on a cookie sheet, cut into quarters, spread them out and pop them in the freezer (ask me how I know!).

Then, just before you leave for work, drop a couple frozen pieces in the bowl. They'll eat it cold, waiting until it's not hard as a rock... or at least mine will. I free feed them, so this works for me. I'm not far from home at work, about 5 minutes, but I'm not running home every day to feed them at my lunch time. Most days, there's leftovers at the evening meal time, but I like to be sure Chuck has food if he wants/needs it.

Speaking of Chuck, he's laying on my hand as I type, purring madly and wanting attention, so if I make mistakes, it's because there's a cat on my hand!!

Thanks Susan, do you add water to them?
I usually add 1 can FF and 1/2 can of water and iny bit of squash< poo's been a bit black and hard, trying to help him out...lol
How many cans is Chuck supposed have a day?
Ruben is to have around 3 cans of FF a day (that's while he was on insulin) not sure if that still stands. I know I over think everything when it comes to Ruben, bu want to do whats best for his lil pancreas and want to give him the best chance possible for staying in remission.

I don't add water, but you could always add some water when you put the frozen FF in the bowl/dish. I free feed Chuck (he's down to about 7 1/2 pounds, so I let him eat as much as he wants), he proabably eats 2 1/2 cans a day, maybe a little more...

I overthink and probably over-react with Chuck, so know how you feel. I've had him for almost 18 years, so you'd think I'd be a bit better with the reactions -- nope!

oh the older Ruben gets, the crazier I become...   He's my rock, so when he's off my whole world feels shook...Oh I love that little beast. One of the reasons I love here (((((FDMB))))) so much is b/c we all "get it"
Thank you for the info.

Hi Sam,
Shadow and I are a little different... I too , don't want to strain her to much or do anything to knock her out
of remission...
When I am around, she gets "something" approximately every 4 hours ( 5 occasionally).

When I have frozen some food/with water, I use a muffin tin.... I have silicone ones that are flexible and I can pop one out onto her dish... She did eat that willingly before it even thawed out. ohmygod_smile
I have a timed feeder but I haven't been using it lately.... ( it's waking my DH) (i just bought a cd player
with a repeat function to play a rainstorm/lighting cd all night long and hopefully drown out other sounds)

so I've been putting out a salad plate with her food on it at 9pm (bedtime) and she sometimes eats most of it
but never all... and she seems to be learning to self serve again in the middle of the night...
she was having to wait until the feeder opened ( which was a 4 hour wait)

I prefer she have more smaller meals to keep from ever stressing out her pancreas again....

when i start using the feeder again, I sometimes put some freeze dried treats in the other slot so she
lets me sleep a little longer.... ;-)

that little paw starts hunting for my face if she gets hungry....and it usually has at least one nail extended :-x

omg, Ruben does the snaggle nail too...haha

I'm gonna start freezing some food. I've noticed he usually eats every 2-4hrs on his own but just want to be safe.
I'm gonna have to freeze double b/c of maple.
How much water do you mix the food. I use FF classics and mix 1/2 water to 1 can of FF. Very soupy< but he's got hard poo  trying to help that out. :-D

I mixed a spoonful of steamed smashed pumpkin to Rosy's daily food to help with her hard poo. It helped.

Glad you got some answers...I was going to suggest the same things...either a timed feeder or the food hockey pucks.

marje- I can't with that pic, stinkin cute, she is a riot. her little head, just a happy lil girl. I'm gonna go with the Hocky pucks for now.
I'm gonna do 1 can fresh a piece and 1/2 frozen each. then 1/2 fresh at lunch with other 1/2 can frozen. then fresh at night.
love you guys, thank you
