Hello again LL friends. We are back after a 2 year remission.

Looks like Pedro will need to start up on Lev again - but maybe just until he gets off his 8 week clavamox stint.
Sorry my spread sheet and profile are out of date so here is where we stand now.

His BG has stayed below 100 up until recently. His BG has gone up steadly since begining clavamox 2 1/2 weeks ago and has now hit 260. He needs to stay on the ab for another month to get rid of a kidney infection. Vet feels that the ab is why the BG is climbing. Hope that once he is done he will go back in remission.
My question- I was thinking of starting him at .5u and wanted to bounce it off off LL eyes. Thoughts??????

He is doing well but he has a lot going on. He has Cushings, pancreatitis, and currently a kidney infection.
Three weeks ago he went in to vets for our usual every 3 month battery of tests but he was also losing weight and not looking as good. All his usual tests looked "good" but this time his Vit B was was really low and had the kidney issue going. (More info on that if desired but want to get this post in)
His pancreatis test have stayed between >30 and >50 since forever so we just deal with it.

So added to his usual med regime of Trylostane and Tumil K we just added:
Vit. B.12 inj once/week
Budisonide 1/day
Clavamox 2/day
New diet: Royal Canin venison. (okay in the carb dept. abt 12, the same as previous diet.) but he loves it.
After three weeks of new diet, budisonide and VitB he is already looking and feeling better.

And there you have our brief update!
Amy

Hi guys and welcome back, I guess! I also hope this is just a quick drop in while on meds .. No dosing advice from me, but I am sure others will be here soon to help you figure it out!

Hi Amy,
I am sorry that Pedro has been feeling under the weather. I am glad that he is showing some improvement with the meds. I hope that once his infection clears he is able to get his BG's down again. He has done so well. I hope that this is just a temporary setback for him.

Great to hear from you and sorry you're back!

Is the AB a pill or liquid? If the latter, it may have a syrup base and raise BG. You could try to get it compounded without sugar.

If it's a pill, it's not the AB that's raising Pedro's BG -- it's the kidney infection. Once the AB kicks in, you will probably see his insulin needs drop. In other words, you'll need to keep an eye on his numbers.

You can start at 0.5u but do get a mini-curve so you don't get surprised.

Such a nice welcoming (back) committee - thank you.

The AB are pills. The IM vet said she thought it was a combo of the infection +Ab. Whatever is going on - we will deal. That's what everyone in LL taught me to do and gave me the confidence to do it.

So I will start him at .5. I'm going to wait until tomorrow AM to begin as I have to be out this evening and I do want to be around to do a mini-curve.
You all trained me so well!

Thanks so much and I will report back as we start up tomorrow.

Hi, Amy & Pedro!!

Good to see you, though I wish it were for better news.

Hope Pedro kicks the infection to the curb PRONTO!
