I hope everyone had a peaceful weekend and a good Monday. Jack seems to be seeing extreme peaks and valleys on this brand of insulin so far, but part of that is my fault because I purposely gave him just the low carb Elsey's kibble (no Ziwi Peak) and the 6% pate yesterday morning before heading out because he was 281 and I didn't know which way he was going to do. I was also moving his shot time up 15 minutes each day for about a week to accommodate the ridiculous time I had to leave yesterday morning. Now, we are moving 15 minutes back each day (SMH) to accommodate for Easter in 2 weeks (family commitments...ugh) PLUS, I noticed over the weekend that the first two brands of insulin (Mylan and Biocon Biologics) were actually biosimilars (glargine-yfgn) and the brand they gave me a few days ago (Winthrop by Sanofi) is just glargine- not a biosimilar. Who knows how/if that is a contributing factor. Also, I got an email late Saturday from the vet saying she received a note to respond to an email from me (about the insulin resistance tests) but she didn't see anything in the inbox- could I re-send or explain what I wanted. :banghead: So basically Jack and his diabetes are just a big, fat, hot mess and I'm sitting in the middle of it all, holding my head and trying not to have a complete breakdown. :arghh:

Hope all the humans and kitties are doing well- trying to catch up between work meetings. HUGS to all! :bighug:

Youch! :blackeye: So many complications with the brand - think biosimilars vs non biosimilars makes a lot of difference? I should check on what we got when I get home today.
And WTH with the vet's email thing? Sorry you had to start all over, that's just so frustrating!
Hope things will settle down for you and time adjustment goes smooth. You have just too many on your plate, Christine!

Who even knew about this about glargine? I'd like an answer about biosimilars, too! Purrl is using Winthrop by Sanofi-Aventis, so not a biosimilar then.

So sorry to hear about the Vet. :(

The vet email situation is not worth discussing. The problem is the vet I like and who works well with me is only in on Friday and Saturday, and the staff is somewhat lazy/incompetent (not sure which...or both)

I don't know if there will be a difference with biosimilars vs non biosimilars or not, I'm just knocking my head against the wall trying to eliminate variables for him. @JL and Chip , @Wendy&Neko , @kelcie all had great input when I first noticed the brand change; the original post is from Jan and is here: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...reased-back-to-8-25u-insulin-question.285927/

Thank you for the link. I had not seen it although I've read posts before we got here end of January.

Sounds like the Winthrop Sinofi insulin glargine is really just Lantus, but not branded. Same manufacturing process, same ingredients, pretty much same everything. I've seen some references to products called bio-identical. Sinofi makes Lantus, Winthrop is a US Sinofi company.
