WCR: After throwing up last night, was more than happy to get his +9 snack. After snack, Mr. Spot decided to visit me on the bed and fell asleep laying on my tummy for at least two hours. He is very hungry now.

This am number tells me that I should give him some juice....it is a possibility that the pukus is the cause of this. If things do not look better at pmbg I will be aborting the trial and giving him insulin. I can't have these numbers, he can't have these numbers....not good at all.

Well, my fellow LL'ers I need to go btb for a few and get some sleep...between puking, and loving kittys sleeping on my chest, oh, yea, and jelly belly civvie Ali who decided that she had to sleep on my chest since Spot was on the tummy...sleep was not a good thing last night. Will visit condo's later and get another test before heading out the door for work.

((( Deb ))). Look for Libby's OTJ guidelines - I don't know anything about this topic, but is there something about feeding a little and rechecking to see if he brings himself down? Please check, don't go by my comments. If he really needs it, would a drop to get him through break the countdown?

Thanks for responding, Nina. I have a plan...going to recheck before heading off to work this morning and see if he's coming down. Grammiebean will be home all day, so she can do the occasional spot check. If things are not better tonight, he will get .1u of insulin. If it aborts the countdown, so be it. Spot is more important than that. Besides, if he got here once, he should be able to do it again!

DEB-You know my ideas about doing the very best for Moonie & Spot--Where you & I never were deliberately looking for OTJ, if it happens, we rejoice, if not, we want healthy, happy kitties...Whatever happens, you have our love & support..We want the very best for O'Spottie!

Deb,

Spot's shown amazing progress by reaching this point, and I can imagine very well your dilemma of aborting the trial vs keeping it up. I know it's something I thought about with Quincy even with numbers closer to 120. While I was dying for him to be OTJ, I really, really wanted to make sure he was ready and could handle it. If Quincy needed to go back on insulin two weeks later, I would have rather not stopped it at all. And even now, with Quincy's successful trial behind us, I have been thinking that even if he does need insulin again down the road, the bottom line is, his pancreas has healed tremendously, and he's so much healthier because of it.

For what it's worth, if this was Quincy and me, I'd probably go back on insulin for a week or so and then try again if numbers dictate. Spot might need his training wheels just a wee bit longer. Unless of course, he drops to 80 on your next test! :-D

You have a great attitude about all of this, by the way, and congratulations are definitely in order regardless of whether this is a mistrial or not. I looked at Spot's spreadsheet, and it's amazing what the two of you have done together over the years.

My comments may seem weird but here goes.

Along the insulin journey, lots of kitties started with high numbers. With our following the protocol and tons of patience, many kitties move down the dosing ladder, on to OTJ status.
As they travel down, there are so many times that they drop but then scurry back up because they are feeling like the the right numbers are the wrong numbers.

Over time, after each dip closer to those right numbers, kitty gets used to those numbers and it looks like kitty is saying Hey, these aren't too bad at all!

And down, down they go, getting to that crazy 0.1u dose.
At some point, GUM day arrives, and all the stress is passed to the bean - cuz kitty is doing just fine TUVM!

I think there are some times when that countdown might be a bit like those drops from higher numbers long ago; they try it and maybe it just does not feel right, yet.

Deb, that 12day stretch is amazing! I am hoping that it's just an odd ball event because I bet lots of kitties have them - they are just not caught and recorded.

But if it's not just an odd ball event and Spot needs a wee bit of help still, you can be sure of one very very important fact:

Spot CAN do it, and if it's not this time, or there's a bit of a delay; you can rest assured that Spot WILL do it soon.

And that's from a bean who is looking forward to the day that Shadoe gets down to a single digit dose, under 10u :smile:

I love your attitude. I just don't want you to get ahead of yourself -- or Spot. Spot's in charge. Let's see what he wants to do with this number.

Aw, Deb. I really can feel what you feel because it is all still so fresh in my experience. (And I keep expecting to spot-check Basil and get 591 or something.)

I really don't know the significance of this PS number, especially given the vomiting. Maybe it means time for a break from the trial, or maybe it means keeping going but adding another week of 2x-a-day testing. I'd see what people have to say after his next number if I were you. Meanwhile, (((Deb))).

Hi Deb, I agree with the consensus that Spotty's health and well-being should be the criteria. He is certainly sending you a message. As everyone here says: Spotty is in charge. This GUM trial has given you a lot of expertise and when Spot is ready to go OTJ, whether it be today, next week, next month, whenever, you will be ready to go along with him. The important thing is to do what is best for his body now.

Thanks to everyone who have been following our journey and have been so supportive. You really don't know how much this means to me! There will be several more spot checks throughout the day, and at 6:00 p.m. when I get the call from grammiebean to let me know what his numbers are, will be the decision making moment (short 4 people today, so I have to do my job and then run a crew). I won't be able to post pmbg until I get home from work tonight around 8:30 p.m., but I will let you all know the next few test results since I will at least be at my computer until 3pm.

In the meantime...Spot was outside for a little bit and I had to bring him in for his test. It took a bit of lovin, but he finally got a nice furry and purry going on. Ate his treat and is sitting next to me, rubbing my are, kissing my are and I think waiting for his mini snack...so off I go!!

Again, thanks so very much for your words of encouragement and understanding!!

When Raja hit the 13th day, Jill and Libby looked over her numbers and suggested the insulin again...
That was her first OTJ trial.....we have talked about this before I think Deb...the party was put on hold until she was really ready. It didn't take too long for her on the .1u bid...and I felt better about delaying it too. As you said, it's all about what's BEST for our kitties. You said exactly the kind of things I was thinking way back then. OTJ is coming, no doubt. It's just that we don't want it to be premature. That's why there is the 14 day TRIAL. right?
O'Spottie is doing great...maybe they will say to delay the party while the pancreas gets a little more juice. hey, .1u is a little more, such a smidgen...but sometimes, it's what they need for a little time. You have his best interests at heart...always. See what Libby and Jill think....

BTW, Spot and Raja were talking at the party...at length...and I think he felt better about it after talking to another kitty who had been in the same situation. She told him that the catering can be postponed and certainly the nipjitos could be put on hold till the real OTJ party ~~just like what happened to her~~so there was nothing to fret about! She told him to take his time...his pancreas is almost as good as new...and he was happy to know that she went through this too.

Then Logan taught him that Tequila song :lol: and everyone ended up singing it for hours and laughing as if they didn't have a care in the world!! :lol:

Well, guess we'll see what +9 looks like...now who is wishy washy today???? BUT....I am not complaining!!

I don't know. If it were me--and this is STRICTLY if it were me and no claim to have any special knowledge or anything--but I wouldn't give insulin again without hearing from Libby and/or Jill first.

My reasoning would be that he is not in any danger with these numbers. Looks to be still in the healing zone or darn close to it. And since you can't post pmbg until after what would be shot time, I'd be tempted to wait. You can always resume tomorrow.
 
hi deb. sorry i haven't been around, but have been pre-occupied with alex being very sick this past week. libby asked me to stop by. imo, you shouldn't abort the otj trial at this point. for spot to have puked last night... something is going on with him. i see the +6 is 66. he may very well be getting back on track now. if it were me, i'd give him a couple more days. i don't think you'll be disappointed.

ps - i've seen stuff like this happen before. it's probably just a blip on the radar.
 
Hey Deb, sorry I haven't been around much lately, but I wanted to remind you that 2 weeks after Jasper's party, he got into some food that upset his tummy and gave him pukus and LP for 2 days and drove his numbers into the 260's. I was tempted to restart insulin, but I waited it out and gave him a few days and he dropped back down into the greens on his own. Puking can cause the numbers to spike up alot. hang in there. Jasper is looking forward to his zippy-pants sharing buddy to join him at the falls bcatrun_gif

Blip or not, Spot is doing GREAT....always great to remember how far you have come. He is healing, no matter what!
I hope he is feeling okay after the vomiting...hope he didn' really get any Tequila the other night....there was none here but the song was a big hit...Feel better Spot!!

Poopoo! back up there...chit chit chit!! Can a kitty bounce from being in lower numbers even tho he didn't have insulin? Maybe that 66, which is a number he hasn't seen in a while caused a bounce..huh, huh?? Lol, I'm grasping at straws here. Not sure what is going on...but he is very furry and purry right now and his appy is good...goofy spot! Oh, and the +9 was 92 :-D

I will hold off on the insulin for now but I'm afraid that our big OTJ party will have to be put on hold for a while longer!
 
come on, Spot, you could make this just a little bit easier on us, ok?

Today would have been a nice curve if he was on insulin. I don't know, Deb, I think the fact that he came down to 66 without insulin doesn't leave a lot of room to add insulin, KWIM? We can do it if we have to, but I'm just not convinced that you should shoot yet. Do you have any more room or ideas for food manipulation?
 
Libby, right now he is getting small meals every three hours...he gets a little less then a 1/4 can at each meal and a little less than an 1/8 can every three hours - 6 a.m/6 p.m. meals - snacks at 9, 12, & 3. Do you think I'm feeding him to much? I did try to give the mini meals 4 hrs, apart and didn't see much difference. So, I would appreciate any input on the feeding schedule.

No insulin, not yet. I'll wait until I hear from you or Jill.

Thanks again to everyone who visited our condo today and for all of your support. I mean that from the bottom of my heart and the top of Spots ears!

by the way, one of our trial days, Luna was especially pukey and wouldn't eat, he went up to almost 200! I learned to give him a few hours, he would come around and eat a little, and bring himself down.

I know you are doing the best you can for Spot, it's so obvious! Just stay positive and keep it up. :YMHUG:

Well, Spot squeaked into the greens finally today, lol!!
I changed the times of his little mini meals during the pm cycle. Took his +3 and since it was so high I opted not to feed and see where it took me...at +5, he came down some, so I gave just a tiny bit of food. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the green just now. I did give another small bite. Going to try feeding less amount of food, like just a tsp. for the mini meals, maybe I'm giving him to much....it's worth a try!
Well, going btb...cyas in three hours!
