yesterday

this morning... 107 approximately 2 hours after DH gave her breakfast... which she barely ate any...
I doctored it up and gave it to her again...and left... had to work for a bit....
3 plus hours later she's at 125
added raw shrimp to it... she ate 1/3 of it...

guess she's finally tired of ff chicken and liver...
problem is she's kind of all her choices....


the cyst under her chin is still there... hoping it keeps surfacing so it can go away.... doesn't seem to hurt...
the back end seems okay....
she just gets really indignant if I try to mess with it too much but she just ran off to use the LB ... that's all normal...


8 more days til dental....
wish I knew if she really needed one...
hate putting her thru it if it turns out that's not it.... but unfortunately the only way to know... is to do it... :YMSIGH:

her numbers have sorta improved except for that 125 which sure feels like her lack of eating...


if my vet had ultrasound capabilities ,,, I think I'd request it....
but they have to call someone in...

i'd really like a cat scan..... :lol:
see if there is anything else....

right now, it seems more like it's just her waffling on her remission... she did go into remission on the high end of good numbers....



very nasty winds right now.... yucky March...

I hope Shadow stops being so picky and eats better for you. Hopefully the dental will help her. I know it's hard to wait and see if it does.

Hi Rhiannon.....it's the waiting, I know it's tough. Plus you don't know for sure if it's needed. I'm sorry , my memory stinks.
Are you suspicious of dental pain, for her not wanting to eat?
Hope that cyst goes away soon. When Tux had inflamed 'acne' (my word) under his chin, doc gave us AB and said I "could" put neosporin on it....."if I wanted". I just kept it clean with diluted peroxide, and waited. It took several weeks to totally clear up.
I know, that's not what Shadow has. Sending healing vines for Shadow's booboo. :smile:

I sure hope that dental issues are at the root of Shadow's higher numbers and that after her teeth are OK, she will be too. I could be that she just normally runs a little high. Try not to worry (too much) and have a fine evening,

I find it really hard to tell if Shadow is filling any pain in her mouth/teeth.
The two previous occasions.... she didn't give me any obvious sign except for the first time where you could scritch her cheek/chin /face
and her mouth would "chatter". That is a sign of FORL ( and I didn't know that way back then )
FORL is feline odontoclastic resportive lesions

the fangs had no sign at all.
She had surgery to remove a inflitrative lipoma from her rib cage and was supposed to have a dental at the same time....
The lipoma was so invasive that the vet ran out of time to do the dental... but he had done an xray. So we knew she needed it done after having time to recover from the lipoma removal.... ( he had to take a lot of muscle tissue from the area)

And currently all we see is tartar buildup.... I don't get a reaction from touching her face at all...
I just know that FORL tends to keep happening over time.
And i'm grasping at straws as to why her numbers went up... expecting it to be something brewing....





I'm thinking of how to phrase /ask a question.
thinking of creating a new condo for it... just trying to put it into words...

pancreatitis? diabetes?
just like there is pre-diabetes for humans... there has to be a similar occurrence for the cats.

so... i'd be very curious for all those who've dealt with pancreatitis to think back before they actually got the dx...
and then of the lead in time.... what was happening....

I read others talk about a cat licking it's lips as a sign of nausea....
Shadow doesn't lick her lips....
currently she smells her food and acts like I'm offering cabbage stew.... :lol:
brand new can... just opened...

she doesn't react when her abdomen is touched... the vet palpatates her all over... the only reaction so far was her elbows...
 
Hi Rhiannon, thought I'd pop over and say a bit more about raw food here since you asked in my condo and are considering it for Shadow. Raw food is served thawed. I get two kinds, one comes in either plastic tubes or rectangular pouches and is enough for my two cats for one day. If I forget to thaw out the food, I can put it in a bowl of cool water and it thaws out in 20 minutes. I get into a routine of putting tomorrow nights raw food from the freezer to the fridge before I go to bed at night. The other kind of raw that Neko gets is her "snacks". I use the Nature's Variety chicken. It comes in nuggets, in bags, so it's harder to thaw the individual pieces if you forget. I just put a few in a plastic ziploc to thaw. Raw should be used up within a couple of days of it thawing.

The other thing to consider with raw is how Shadow eats. Neko is a hoover and Theo is too for some flavours (kangaroo and red meats). I can convince him to eat the rest at once if it's warm enough or has chicken sprinkles on it. You aren't supposed to leave raw out more than 20-30 minutes, so it's not great for grazers. You also need autofeeders with a compartment for a ice pack. I do add warm water to warm the meat and just get more water in both of them (he had crystals).

The raw food I get is pretty low in phosphorus. Their favorite kangaroo is 109 mg/100 kcals and very low in fat. Since Shadow has few teeth, you'll also want a variety that is well ground. If you want to try it out, Nature's Variety does sell small sample packs. And it's also a transition process. Neko was no issue, but Theo I started just a taste of raw, then 1/4 mixed in, then 1/2, then all raw. It took a couple of weeks. It's promising that Shadow like raw turkey. I've also heard some say that adding active cultures is good in the transition as the tummy has to learn process the different food.

On a completely different topic, are you putting warm compresses on Shadow's chin? In the shelter we'd do a washcloth or gauze pad with warm water and hold in on the chin for a minute or two to help drain the acne.
 
Shadow has Nature's variety chicken...

she's bored with it... and won't eat it any more.... she liked it better before remission when she was hungrier...

she prefers turkey to chicken... turkey treats, turkey foods so i'm planning on finding one of the other raw brands that has turkey ... or rabbit...

i can't have kangaroo in the U.S. apparently..

i bought her a turkey leg and cut out some meat to see if she'd like it. And she did... but it could just be because it's something new....
she's like that. :roll:
 
Another take on raw food...I give my 3 turkey leg meat with the premix (the one listed on catinfo.org).

My 3 generally like it, Honey in particular likes it but I have change it out with regular canned food otherwise they get bored - but they are the same on everything!
Minkie is a fish lover so I mix in some fish-flavoured canned and he's started eating the raw too.
As you make it yourself, you can split it into really small portions and just leave the rest in the freezer.
 
I agree with Denise on the need for variety in raw. I've heard it's good to feed more than one protein. Mine are on a rotation of 4 proteins, with occasional splurges for further variety.
