Come on Lucian...make a run for the grass today! Just try staying in the tall grass.

Laid in the sun for awhile, now taking a swim to cool off and then I'm betting he will have a nice romp in the grass later today.

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182

That sounds so nice, it's chilly, grey and damp here. :-Q

I'm ready for some warm weather and sunshine. :YMSIGH:

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182

Its sunny here but we had a rain and snow mix overnight so it is deceiving out looks beautiful but freezing cold and winds are suppose to come up around noon so its gonna feel even colder with that wind chill.

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182

Right now, it is 5 degrees warmer here than there. And supposed to rain all afternoon. The only thing this kind of weather is good for, is sleeping! @-) Supposed to get up to 50 though.

I'm not going anywhere today, gonna do some house cleaning, have another inspection this week and need to do floors again. My house smells like cat food and that nasty a$$ perfumey litter smell, that I hate. I have an unopened box of litter that is unscented, so it's time to scrub the LB and refill with 100% fresh, in a couple days. I can only afford it when it's on sale at Petsmart. The rest of the time, I get litter at Walmart, where it's only $8 for a 28lb box. But I hate the scent! :-x

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182

Glad to see Lucian is doing lovely today!

It's raining here- there goes some more thunder! Probably sending Sneakers hiding under some solid furniture or between the couch and the wall at home.

I transferred over to the Breeze system- mainly b/c I was tired of kitty litter in the bed (yuck!) and everywhere else in the house. It is great for one kitty but could be expensive if you have more than one as the upfront cost is about the same as a bag of WBCL.

But I do love the tubs for the litter- I use mine in the garden for hauling trash, catching water off the back porch- should have put them out today. I only have about 4 and the buckets are so handy to have around!

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182

Heather if you want a ton of Tidy Cat 35lb buckets just bring a truck and head to Hastings Nebraska...lol I go through 80lbs of litter a week so I have a garage full of them. You could pick up 20 buckets and insulin for Sneakers as well as getting to meet and greet the entire fur gang. :-D

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182

I remember a conversation Mel and I had about the Tidy Cat plastic buckets and how useful they are. I keep my hand tools and household repair stuff in 2 of them.

I don't buy Tidy Cat, don't care for it personally, but the buckets are great. :thumbup I've had these 2 for many years. I think they were given to me by a friend, I never bought the big buckets, just smaller container and didn't like the litter, so I didn't buy it again.

My favorite litter is Arm and Hammer unscented, but I can't afford it. :-x The Exsquisicat (sp) unscented from Petsmart is close, so I get it when it's on sale. I just can't stand the scent they put in litter. It is sickly sweet perfumey and mixed with cat excrement, it grosses me out. Luckily, my cats could care less what I buy, as long as I buy something.

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182

mmm... Nebraska... is NOT on my way to Vermont- or I would take you up on that

I'm another unscented Exquisitcat from Petsmart myself - I think I just paid 11.99 for the 40 lb. Like you I hate the scented stuff and I also found that I went through that Special Kitty from Walmart about twice as fast....it just doesn't seem to hold up as well. I used Tidycat until I found this stuff.....and I have a bunch of those buckets around. In fact, I used a couple for tomato plants last summer....only my front yard gets enough sun and we have rabbits, so I couldn't just plant a bed.

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182

That's what I just bought last week, the 40# for 11.99. :-D

Don't know if you have an ALDI store near you, but they have 14# for 3.99 that I have bought when very broke and it is worse, smell wise, than anything I have ever used. :o Can't get the smell out of my apt for days after I quit using it, it permeates the whole place! I love my Aldi for the prices, but that stuff is awful! @-)

Nope - no Aldis....do you have those amusing southern stores like the Piggly-Wiggly and Harris-Teeter?

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182

No PW near me, but I'm familiar with them. Shopped there for years when I lived in the boonies. I loved it. Like an old time store, with a real meat cutter that would do things for you without charging. Like cutting a steak or pork chops a certain thickness, etc. They have real butchers instead of meat stockers.

We do have Harris Teeter, which is the absolute best place for items you can't find anywhere else. But their prices are sky high. But if you need a specialty spice or ingredient not carried in most stores, they'll have it, but it'll cost ya! :o

I shop at Aldi for most of my stuff, saving 50-75% and some Walmart for cat food and litter and pharmacy. I really dislike going into Walmart, but have to for a couple things.

Back when I stayed with my son and DIL, I shopped everywhere, made my lists according to the sale ads and hit all the local stores, since they are all within a 5 mile radius. Since it's just me, that isn't necessary, Aldi is always cheaper and we finally got an Aldi here about a 2 years ago. With the exception of cat/dog food and litter, everything else I've tried is equal or better quality than name/store brands. They are a rapidly growing store, just don't know how far they are outside of the southeast though.

My friends in South Carolina insist on taking me to Piggly Wiggly because i have trouble holding a straight face. We have some really good regional chains that sound a lot like Aldi, and like you I must have a dozen grocery stores within a few miles - we even got a Wegmans that is apparently some sort of "destination grocery shopping" place. I got as far as the dual level parking garage and decided it was just too freaking crowded for me to try (and that was just the parking lot).

And my own Walmart is a supercenter but I dislike it too - that said - its crowded at all hours of the day and night so I'm sure they don't miss my business.....

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182,+6/167

167 @+6 and he ate 1.25 hrs ago. Nice! :-D

I'm with you, hate the huge stores, like Walmart Supercenter. Too many people and waiting in line, since they NEVER have enough cashiers! I get cat food and pharmacy stuff and pay for everything at the pharmacy so I don't have to wait as long in line. ;-)

We have a store called Lowes' Foods that originated here in NC and I think they have a couple in VA and SC now too. Similar to HT, but not as expensive, but still too high for me. Very nice stores with great variety and exceptional produce, but I rarely get anything there unless I need to grab milk and don't want to go the 5 miles to Aldi, since they are much closer and my mpg's sux. Have to take in consideration the gas too, that's why I do all my running on the same day, about every 5 days or so. Like tomorrow, I'll make the rounds, Aldi, Walmart, Petsmart and Dollar Tree.

I know people that go out to some store, every day, then complain about gas prices! Come one people, do it all at one time! A little organization can save quite a bit. :-D

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182,+6/167

We just affectionately call our WalMart the Out Store because it is always out of about 2/3s of whatever I go in there for. I finally sent them a nasty email about how if they couldn't keep the pet department stocked I was going to have to take my business elsewhere and that I spend over $100.00 per week on pet supplies alone. Didn't take the local manager long to call me asking how they could help me get what I needed to keep shopping with them..But apparently I still have to do the leg work for them, since I if I can produce the UPC codes for the flavors of Friskies Classic Pate that I want then they will SEE if they can order them in just for me..I'll believe that when I see it, because the last time I asked if I could pre-purchase a particular flavor of canned dog food, and have them call me when it comes in so I could pick it up, they told me "No, that would throw our inventory and ordering off" WTF?

I so miss Aldi's use to shop there all the time, and actually the stuff is name brand, just not name brand in the US, but they import it from other places, and the fresh produce is locally grown...love that store. We have a choice of 4 places here, and since the entire town is a 10 mile radius its all close, but our choices are Sunmart, great if you speak Spanish, Allens if you want to pay 4 times too much but you can find just about anything there but you will pay for it (i.e. Friskies @ walmart 46cents/can..Allens.. Friskies 65 cents/can) but they carry every flavor that Friskies makes, then there is Russ's which is basically a Safeway, but it is always so crowded you can't breathe in there and the parking lot is teeny tiny. And lastly Walmart. Not a lot of choices here.

I remember well the Piggly Wigglys and not being able to keep a straight face anymore than I can keep a straight face at the convience stores we have which are called Cum 'N' Go.

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182,+6/167

You can order online and have it delivered to the store (Walmart) without paying shipping. Have you tried that? If you only buy by the case, I don't see why not.

But I avoid Walmart like the plague. Seriously, until I started getting cat food there, I went once a month for my prescriptions and that's it. If I could get the same price somewhere else, I wouldn't have gone there at all.

Same deal here with cat food, .46 at WM and .65-.75 at the grocery stores. Petsmart has Friskees for .60 when not on sale, .50-.55 when it is. Still cheaper at Wallyworld.

Riddle me this Batgirl? Lucian tried to bury Friskee's Turkey and Giblets yesterday, but tore into Friskee's T&G Special Diet today? Can they be that different?

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182,+6/167

Yep and the special diet is lower in carbs too...I don't think the Special Diet has the rice like the regular, expect my crew goes the other way, won't touch the SD stuff buy will knock you over for the regular, well all but Autumn, so far she hasn't met a can of cat food that she didn't love..lol

OMG - I spit diet soda at the Cum N Go....just as well we don't have that here. Its very cool that your Walmart at least pretends to want to be helpful. You probably already know this but Amazon will periodically have different flavors of Friskies pate for .50 or less w/free shipping if you are Amazon Prime....and even less if you go with subscribe and save.....It saves me 6% sales tax and some lugging...but again you have to keep checking to see what they are offering at what price.

Being a city girl I never really got the idea of having to drive miles and miles to get to a store...but then I visited a good friend in southern Indiana and it really was a half hour drive to get to any sort of town....the only thing close was a roadside beer/convenience store. I've yet to be anywhere that was more than a couple miles away from beer actually.

Re: 3/18 Lucian AMPS 269,+3/182,+6/167

LOL Now BEER we have plenty of...I am always joking that we have twice as many bars as we have Churches and we have A LOT of Churches...lol So I thought I would actually check to see if it was true ...24 churches and 18 true bars and 8 liquor stores not even counting all the various convience stores and grocery stores that also carry alcohol.. lol. And that is just in Hastings itself, not taking into account all the little towns within 5-10 minute drives from here..

So while we may not be about to buy clothes, fabric or decent selection of petfood, we can get drunk and pray for the hangover to go away...lol

The funniest, strangest thing I ever saw, was a drive thru beer and fireworks store in Copperhill TN, called the Runway. Just what we need, drunks with explosives!

Its true though....probably 15 years ago I drove from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon - a lot of the hwy is nothing but desert scrub for miles and miles and miles.....but right in the midst of absolute nowhere was an Adult Video/Liquor store combination.

Love the beer and fireworks store - south of the Mason Dixon folks do tend to be more tolerant of fireworks than we are, but you're right - that's a tricky combo for sure.

You know I think I can answer part of it...not all but part. Since he doesn't eat every 3 hours over night he starts out lower, but during the day he is having lots of mini meals. While he might not like it much you could try this...Feed Breakfast at amps, then nothing between that and lunch at +6, then again nothing until pmps and see if that evens out his amps and his pmps. Then leave him something to nibble on overnight. Unless of course you find that he is dropping too low and then of course you will want to prop him up some. That is the way everyone here eats, the first few weeks they all thought they were going to starve to death but they eventually got use to the new dining schedule.

That's how they eat at my house as well. It used to be just breakfast when I left and dinner when I returned - I'd measure out the dry because they were both a bit overweight. The only reason I changed to leaving lunch out is because I was worried about Jez needing food and not being able to get to it. But I need to start allowing for that and rationing again because apparently neither furkid has much selfcontrol - if there is food available, they will eat it - and at 6 and 8 - they don't exercise as much as they used to.

I don't see that working, I can't listen to him squall for hours, I'm home remember?

And there is always food out all night. I feed him at his last test (PM+3-+4) and I'm sure he eats at least once after that, so his schedule isn't changing during the night.

The Friskees FD he ate for the first time today? He's making spin art tonight, no more of that.

If he doesn't come down some tomorrow, I may have to try fattening the dose or something.

What Mel says makes a lot of sense - I'd let him squall one day just to see if it makes a difference - you could put the breakfast out in the morning and then leave - enjoy that you aren't working for the moment, maybe walk though a park, do some window shopping - visit a museum....something so you don't have to hear them. If you're nervous, then put out some frozen as well - that covers lunch. When I started, I had to delay coming home because I couldn't stand to hear them whine about delayed dinner ( that whole don't feed 2 hours before shooting thing)......so I do feel your pain.
