Just learned my Little Buddy most likely has amyloidosis. Does not sound good. Kidney friendly diet is low protein. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Vet is researching.... Food question.. How is K/D for Slashy?

If he dies it will be our 3rd in less than a year..my heart is breaking.

Hi. I have no experience with this.
I wanted to give you a bump so one of the experts will come along.
You could cross post to health also.

Tanya's site was a lifesaver for me when I had a cat that was diagnosed with CRF. There is also a CRF yahoogroup that is very good. I wish I had more input for you.

How is his appetite?

Lots of people here with renal kitties feed low phosphorous foods that are also low carb, like some varieties of Wellness and also Friskies Special Diet. I've read that low protein can be beneficial in later stages of renal disease, but not necessarily at the beginning. I think there is still some controversy about that so you would want to do your own research. I would probably find the yahoo group and post to see if anyone has specific experience with this condition, then find something that will work for Slashy. You can always work the insulin around the carbs if it turns out that a higher carb food is better for his overall health. Insulin is easy to tweak.

Sorry for this news. I hope it is something he can fight and stay with you for a long time.
