Sadi is Baby's sister (not Diabetic)
10 years old as of last month, never a dental, bad breath & I STILL SURE kiss those kitten lips.
Has had same vet since born...I want to show up tomorrow.. drop off a print out of below & say this is what I want & expect to schedule a dental for Sadi.
I appreciate & understand if you cannot deliver, just respect we will go elsewhere. Cost is not an issue.. I make good money & work 2, sometimes 3 jobs to support my furbaby family. Also, how do I trust that they will do this.. do I need to stay during the procedure.. or demand that?
She is my heart, literally my breath nailbite_smile Sadi nailbite_smile

Here's the dental info I want to drop off

1) X-rays: either before or the day of the procedure. Also x-rays after to make sure there are no tooth fragments left after an extraction.
2) Bloodwork: prior to the dental to rule out anything that would prevent the procedure
3) Pre-anesthesia sedation/induction: Ketamine (some has been recalled), propofol, valium. Induction should be with an IV drug vs. a gas.
4) Anesthesia: Sevo or Isoflurane (these should not be used for induction, however)
5) Cardiac monitor: pulse oximeter or cardiac monitor
6) IV catheter for fluid access
7) Post-procedure antibiotics if necessary.
(8 ) Pain meds: administered post-procedure and to take home: Buprenex, no metacam due to the potential for renal failure. A fentanyl patch may be excessive for the purpose of this kind of pain management.
9) Blood pressure monitoring (Doppler or Cardell monitor)
10) Warming: make sure there is a means of circulating warmth vs. one warm spot. The latter can cause burns.

Hi, Nicole...
I'm no help on the dental info...but i sure hear you on kissing the kitty lips...
that brought a smile to MY lips!

best of luck, Sadi!

This is a flyer my vet's office uses for dentals. It may be helpful, as well.

I don't know if it's feasible for you to stay, unless the travel time is excessive. I've had Gabby's procedure get bumped for an emergency or delayed because of a complication during another cat's procedure.

Nicole, you didn't mean, stay and watch, did you?
Agree with Sienne, it's probably not feasible to wait, as they take emergencies first.
Last month, I brought Checks in at 7:30, and he had to wait until afternoon, because of emergency surgeries, and a C-section, for puppies.

Barb.. I did mean stay & actually watch them do it  a bit obsessive I guess..
Thank you, Sienne.. I am going to take that flyer in too - I appreciate you sharing, I just want to make sure I deliver my expectations in an appropriate way. I am going to stop by tomorrow with this flyer & the print out & see what they say. I plan to schedule her soon (((thank you)))

I really doubt they would let you stay and watch and if they did, I'd be skeptical of their doing the procedure. The dental is done in a sterile environment. If you don't know sterile procedure, you shouldn't be in the room since you could inadvertently contaminate the field.

I didn't see IV fluids during the procedure on the list. Dr. Lisa has said it's a must.

Your right.. I work for a Health System & when I am in surgeries.. Duh.. didn't mention it & should have...I have to wear scrubs/mask/hat.. very sterile.. I guess since I do it at work.. I consider it common, but you are right... it is not common at a vet or where I do not work.. thanks girls.. just a bit obsessive about it.. very scared & intimitaed by dentals, but know that this is the right thing to do... will let you know & I appreciate your prompt responses & excellent feedback.

IVs?

Hey, Nicole!

You should think about VSEC (they just changed names to something else, but don't remember what it is!) or Mission Med Vet if you don't feel you're getting anywhere with your vet. I've only been to MIssion, but they and Mission share their specialist team, and having dealt with 4 different vets there, I can say that they are AMAZING. I do like our new vet at Fairway Animal Hospital (Dr. Havershot... she is such a sweetie!), but honestly, for any surgeries, I'm taking Willie to Mission, even if it does cost more.

Good luck!!

ETA: Do you just take St. P's Day off? I can't imagine what a pain it must be to get to work, park, etc. today!! And said this in my condo too, but was totally Brookside Barkery today! They have a pretty good food selection (though, I think they have way too many with fish) and a great selection of toys!!

Where else do you work?

Hi Nicole - I just wanted to wish you luck with Sadi. I sounds like you have it well under control - stick to your guns.

I believe that my vet does do IV fluids as well.

Just want to say I'm very impressed Nicole. I had no clue about any of this! You have really done your homework.

Sienne- what an amazing vet you've got. They really sound like they know what they're doing and pamper the cats afterwords. Heck, I'm ready to fly to Chicago to get my teeth cleaned there!

O gosh girls.. thank you.. I cannot claim any credit for the list.. that was provided by FDMB
I just did my homework & found it
Thank you everyone for the well wishes.. I am going to go there tomorrow & hope to get her scheduled next week ;-)
As always (((thank you)))

Nicole!! Moonie has had 2 dentals since she was dx'd--She had 5 extractions the 1st time and 4 the last time.
She was fine both times, I was a wreck!--Copper had a dental last yr..He had 5 extractions, including his fangs and was also fine..
I went by the list from Jill, very much like Sienne's --Just remember No Metacam(pain med)
or Covenia(2wk ab shot)
Copper was on ab's for a week before the dental--
I feel that the dentals are harder on us, and the cats feel so relieved to have those hurting teeth out!
Sadi will be so much better after & will feel so good.
I know how you feel but it will be alright--& BTW, they are there for many hours, also they want the cat to be up & functioning before they bring her out to you--
Big Hugs & we lubs you & will get you through this :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I will be very interested to see what your vet says to you when you bring the list. I need to bring Simon in for a dental and am so scared! Sienne's vet sounds so amazing and I hope all our vets are as thorough as hers. Good luck with your vet visit.
