Ok, now I'm really thrown off. She definitely did not have any contraband this morning. She started coming down nicely from that 392 last night, and had a pretty decent AMPS this morning...I thought we had a clean slate and things were moving along in the right direction again.

Could it be she needs a new vial of insulin already? This one is just over a month old, and I know some people can't get more than the 28 days out of it, while others can. I'm a little wigged out by this...she was doing sooo well, and even had that 55 on Saturday!

Or could those kibbles from yesterday still be messing around with her BG? She had a few bites, but it was far from a meal's worth.

Should I call the vet for a refill, or should I ride it out for another day? This is just not the usual trend for Trixie...I don't get it.

Trying not to panic....

You AMPS and +2 are pretty much the same number. There's as much as a 20% meter variance for any number that you get.

Re. your Lantus - you might want to mark on your SS when you start new Lantus. Also, when you need a refill, I'd suggest asking your vet for the Solostar pens vs. a vial. he pens end up being more cost effective than the vials.

I guess what is throwing me is that usually by +2 Trixie has dropped like a rock.

So far we've only had the one vial of Lantus, which started on January 28. That was a week before we started testing, but I do have that indicated in the very top remarks block of the SS.

I definitely want to get the pens next time. This first time, I didn't have time to shop around and was anxious to get her started. I guess I'll make some phone calls today.

Do you think it's possible that she needs new insulin? Could it still be the kibbles from yesterday morning? Just wait another day before frantically calling the vet for a new script?

Usually if your insulin is toasty, the numbers are all over the place. You may just be seeing a flat cycle. (For some cats, a flat yellow cycle is a signal that there will be some action coming in the next cycle or two.)

If you're concerned about your insulin, it doesn't hurt to get a new prescription. The expiration date on a box of pens is usually over a year from the date of purchase so even if you don't start a pen immediately, it won't go bad. It's only once you start a pen/vial that the clock starts.

(((Amy))): I've looked at Gracie's SS early on in this journey and said the exact things you are saying and wondering the same things. Trixie may be telling you what kind of day she'll have so this might be a great opportunity to see what happens later in the day when she has a little higher +2. It's a great opportunity for data gathering. I think these are not bad numbers although I know yellow doesn't make you (or me) happy :-D .....but she's doing fine. If you see flat yellow all day, she may be brewing up for something big later on!! Let's hope! Have a super day.

Oh, thank you guys so much. Even though we don't have a lot of data yet, I'm just so used to seeing her big drops at +2, as well as blues and greens, that all these yellows and pinks are throwing me for a (somewhat panicky) loop.

I think I am going to get the ball rolling on getting new insulin, since I want to go with the pens and it looks like the prices from the mail order Canadian pharmacies beat the local pricing by far. And I'd rather be prepared than caught in a lurch.

Nerves calming down...+4 coming up in a few minutes. Time always flew by before testing, now it's picked up speed at an incredible pace!

FWIW...when binks gets a good amount of kibble it takes 30-34 hours to clear...but looks like your girl is coming down beautifully!

Thanks...I was wondering how long it could possibly take, knowing each kitty is different.

Just when I think I'm getting used to this crazy ride, she throws in another curve! We don't call 'em "crazy cats" around here for nothin'!

After a "shakey" start for the bean, Trixie pulled has pulled off an interesting day so far after all! Anxiously awaiting to see what she has in store for her PMPS....
