recap yesterday:
AMPS 370.8
+2.5 354.6
+ 6 475.2
PMPS 387
+2.5 297
+4 153
+ 6 144
+8.5 347.4

some better numbers yesterday, sooner than I was expecting. Wondering how today will go!

WCR: Happy, sleek, purry, hydrated, eaten all his breakfast (teeny bit of left over Ocean Breeze 8% mixed with EVO, lysine, enzymes). Active/feisty and raring to go! definitely a WAY happier cat (and bean!)

Fed the Ocean Breeze last night at +4 and +6 (tablespoon at a time).. seemed to do the trick. Will make note of that! It's his favorite so it's a good mid range one to have on hand and for cutting the other stuff to give it some flavour. Really liking the Merrick products, although everyone getting used to the EVO as well.

btb, that 2:30am check wore me out! Hoping everyone managed to get some sleep last nght, I know several people were up on kitty watch!

Re: 3/16 Rupert AMPS 374

Do you have a good handle on how Rupert responds to carbs? The 8% food is still considered LC but some cats are very carb sensitive. As long as Rupert doesn't get a big bump in his numbers, that's fine. You may want to grab a test within an hour after feeding the 8% so you know if there's a difference between when you use the 8% vs. his regular food. It's great info to have when steering his numbers.

Re: 3/16 Rupert AMPS 374

Hi guys .. those mid night spot checks can really wear a bean down! Rupert, got any plans to head down to the lower floors? Heard that's where all the cool cat's are hanging today .. have a great weekend!

Re: 3/16 Rupert AMPS 374

It's a bounce, but it's still where he started yesterday. How are your bounce clearing skills Rupert?

Re: 3/16 Rupert AMPS 374

I'm surprised he was as good as he was this morning, given the already high pink number at 2:30am, so that's not too terrible. Also figured it would take longer for the shed to fill after the missed shot, so that's good too. And, in the past, he has been KING of the dive/bounce/clear rinse and repeat program so hopefully he doesn't clear TOO fast. On the other hand.. IF that tooth truly was causing so much grief, then it would make sense that he would come down pretty darned fast..

I'll try to do some spot checks 'post different carb level foods' this weekend so I have a handle on what works for him, if necessary!

He's in his King of the House spot again this morning (back of the couch) reclining in a much more regal manner than of late (lately he's been sort of just plonked there and somewhat sad or dejected looking... now he's got that slightly snooty expression, his paws are out in front of him, crossed, and he's surveying his domain - his expression reminds me of Sam the Eagle off the Muppets!).

will get his +2.5 when I get back up from the barn , off to do outside chores now. Tell me again why animals are so relaxing????????

Re: 3/16 Rupert AMPS 374,+2.5, 468

sigh, back to the reds, but not entirely unexpected, methinks this is a bounce from the nice blues last night, or simply that the shed is refilling slowly after his missed shot. He's certainly looking a lot better at least!

Re: 3/16 Rupert AMPS 374,+2.5, 468

Ah, well, it's probably a bounce. The good news is he had something to cause a bounce. :-D Do you need a pair of patience pants to wait for this to clear? It could take up to 3 days... ugh. He is feeling better and that's fantabulous. :-D

Re: 3/16 Rupert AMPS 374,+2.5, 468,+6, 478. sigh.

+6 and 478.. at least he's consistent?! sigh. am assuming this is still a bounce and not a return to the hideous numbers PRE dental. fingers crossed tonight he shows some more colors...

Re: 3/16 Rupert AMPS 374,+2.5, 468,+6, 478. sigh.

Oh Pip, I feel for ya. It's soooo hard, waiting for those bounces to clear.
By day two, I start to think it's something terrible the Checkers has, then waddya know, down he comes.
Maybe tomorrow will be Ruperts 'come down' day.

Re: 3/16 Rupert AMPS 374,+2.5, 468,+6, 478. sigh.

Try to not get discouraged, Pip. Mookie has been one of the bounciest kitties here. One day he went from a 36 to a 504 in 8 hours, and then went back down to 280 4.5 hours later. :o I still dread his bounces, but everyone tells me it's part of becoming well again (liver training). Hang in there, you're doing great. :-D

Re: 3/16 Rupert AMPS 374,+2.5, 468,+6, 478.PMPS 457

well, a teeeeensy drop since +6 for his PMPS... wondering if he'll throw some blues at us tonight again. Negative for ketones on urine strip at least.

off to the barn to feed horsies.

Re: 3/16 Rupert.PMPS 457 hoping this is a bounce

For the first time in quite some time, Rupert is sitting between us on the couch, not on the back (his favorite spot).. but in the middle which is where he USED to sit, looking around, alert, and enjoying the odd pat (never a super affectionale cat, just likes you to know he's there). I think he's *feeling* a lot better, even though his numbers are high today. He was pretty enthusiastic about his catnip mouse, as long as no one saw him making a fool of himself! I think I'm beginning to get a handle on this.. not panicking as much (as long as no ketones show up) at the big numbers and understanding that if HE is feeling good, that's the main thing. Sure is a much happier, more involved cat again. Of course I"ll be the first to admit my heart sinks a little each time we hit a red number.. but I"m confident we'll see something prettier soon!

thing is....

this couch doesn't appear to be big enough for the three of us! Guess who'll be sitting on the floor the rest of the evening, no doubt! tee hee

Hoping to see some action on his numbers tonight although a nice gentle slide would be appreciated 'cos it would be nice to catch up on some sleep!

Re: 3/16 Rupert.PMPS 457 hoping this is a bounce

Aww, that's great to hear he's back to old behaviors and feeling good. :-D The lower numbers will come... just not as fast as you'd like.

Re: 3/16 Rupert.PMPS 457,+2.4, 348, yay pink

   hey, maybe if he finds enough coins in the couch he can help pay for his vet bills?

Nice to see a bit of pink in a nice slow civilized slide down. Hoping for greatness tomorrow. Just so pleased to see him so much happier.

Hope everyone has a good and peaceful evening!

Re: 3/16 Rupert.PMPS 457,+2.4, 348, yay pink

what a great report on the boy! it's easier to take high numbers when you can see they are bounces and not "just" high numbers.

you do want to keep a watch on him and if he appears to favor anything in his mouth, he may have an infection. punkin had to have 40 days of antibiotics after his dental to get everything resolved. i could tell something was up because he didn't want to be scratched on that side of his face. then watching him wash his face after he ate, he would lick his paw and wave it on that side like "air washing" not even touching his skin.

i think this is a bounce from yesterday's blues, i just want to mention it for you to watch for.

Re: 3/16 Rupert.PMPS 457,+2.4, 348, yay pink

thanx for the heads up. I'm watching him like a hawk. so far no issues and he's eating better and just so much happier. He has a 'follow up' with the vet next Wednesday to make sure the stitches are dissovling properly etc. etc. so I"m sure she'll check then. I wondered about him needing a course of anti-biotics but she seems to think the one shot of Clindamycin would do the trick. I can't quite remember if she said he had major infection, or just major deterioration causing the pain. I'm guessing, since she didn't prescribe a course of anti-biotics, that she got all of the rotten stuff out.. who knows. Will make sure I ask her next week, and certainly will keep an eye on him. If the numbers stay steadfastly high then I would assume the remainders of an infection lurking in there.

+3.5, and 307 , skirting the edge of yellow! Looks like a nicer more gentle slide down tonight. Good boy Rupie. Definitely more involved, demanding and interested tonight. He's already sitting in the dining room waiting for me to go check on the horses and give them their late night snack. He's definitely more hungry tonight, not seeing him drinking a ton though (not worried, he looks sleek and hydrated) so am assuming that's a good thing. Very interesting to watch the Whole Cat, really is telling. Just wish us beans could understand when they have sore sore teeth. Amazing they can be in so much pain and not communicate it well. They sure can let you know when they are hungry or want you to get up! Silly kitties!
