What a different cat from 4 months ago when he arrived! The past week he has ventured out even further into the rest of the apartment and has taking a liking to sleeping on my side of the bed during the day. If too many others join him he gets a little edgy but he does have a girlfriend. They play together a lot but you have to peek in on them. Once they know you are watching the stop

I'm not sure at what point I can stop giving him the "FAT 0" shot. It's been about 8 days that he's been getting it.

Re: 3/16 Mikey Should I still be giving insulin???

Ordinarily, I'd say stop shooting. However, you've not been getting mid-cycle tests on a regular basis. How about if you shoot today and PLEASE, get some tests in -- even one will do -- each cycle.

It is pretty amazing how their personality comes back once they feel better.

Re: 3/16 Mikey Should I still be giving insulin???

Hi guys .. what a great update on mikey! It's so nice when they are feeling good and having fun isn't it? I hope you grab those much needed spot checks and maybe we'll have another countdown going on! have a great weekend!

Re: 3/16 Mikey Should I still be giving insulin???

very good news - it is so wonderful when they become once again the cat they used to be. I hope that we can see a countdown for Mikey very soon!

Re: 3/16 Mikey AMPS 86

How many "spot" checks do I need to do??? For the past 8 days I have done 1-2 most of the time.

Re: 3/16 Mikey AMPS 86

There are no spot checks for the last 2 days. I honestly think Mikey has been green, but you never know. So, get at least one spot check in both the AM and PM cycle to satisfy my data driven heart and if all is green, at the next green pre-shot (which hopefully, will be tomorrow morning), you can start a trial (anti-jinx).

Re: 3/16 Mikey AMPS 86

So Jenn!!!!

We've been thinking that it's probably time to start Mikey on an OTJ Trial!!!!!! So why don't you grab those mid cycle tests this cycle and the next one (his PM cycle tonight) and tomorrow, if his mid cycle tests are green tonight, and you get a green PS at AMPS, do not give insulin and start the trial.

Here are the instructions:

  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).
  • If Sam is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!
  • If, after 2 weeks Sam has stayed in normal numbers, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Congratulations and Good Luck!!!!!!

Go Mikey!!
