At least there is no fuds spike, but still blechy yellow. She is still happy, radiant, is still carrying her CPC gold card membership...she luvs her sum Paw Lickin' Chicken. And, she currently is snuggling this bean into being late for work while she helps write her condo.

DOSE QUESTION:

Tonight is her 6th cycle on on 2.5U, and I know we'll be doing an increase tomorrow morning. (If she her numbers actually move enough to cancel the dosecrease plans, I will fall off my chair in complete shock!) I really don't like her spending this much time in mostly yellows....would I be pushing it if I gave her a full .5U increase tomorrow rather than going with a .25U increase? Or, do I need to tighten the belt on my patience pants and stick with increasing by just .25U?

Thanks for any thoughts and insight!

Gotta get ready for work...I'll try to sneak a condo or two in. If I don't have a chance to reply, know that I'm thinking of everyone and at the very least I'm checking on how you all are doing!

Have a great day, LL!

Amy

Re: 3/15 Trixie AMPS 293 +2.5 299 - DOSE Q

Personally, I'd stick with the 0.25u increase since she's had nadirs below 200. But increase every 3 days like you're doing. That's great that she's eating so well. :-D

I agree with Liz. I'd stick with the 0.25u increase.

I'd also talk to your vet about the AB that Trixie is getting. I just looked it up. It's used for skin, bladder, and ear infections. It is also not recommended if there are kidney issues. I'm wondering whether there is a kidney infection and this AB just isn't addressing it.

Pyelonephritis should be treated aggressively with broad-spectrum antibiotics, based on urine culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, for 4–6 wk. The infection may respond to the same antibiotics recommended for cystitis, but more frequent administration (eg, amoxicillin tid rather than bid) and/or higher dosages are indicated. A fluoroquinolone or a combination of a fluoroquinolone with a β-lactam antibiotic is often effective

Fluroquinolones are drugs like Cipro and b-lactams are drugs in the penicillin/amoxicillin family.

So happy the CPC continues! Trixie must be loving it! Hoping the new dose brings her down into better numbers - it just makes us beans even happier :-D
Hope your day goes quick and smooth, Amy~

Re: 3/15 Trixie AMPS 293 +2.5 299 +4 236

I'm at work, so this'll be quick....

Thanks for the feedback. I'll tighten up the belt on my patience pants and stick with .25U tomorrow.

Today is the last day of this AB. I'm not sure why vetty picked it, but I do have a lot of confidence in my vet. She stays on top of stuff, analyzes each cat's individual needs, and answers each and every question thoroughly. We go next week for follow-up BW and urinalysis. You may recall that we didn't have a sterile sample last time and because of odd circumstances (approaching storm, empty bladder, inconsistencies in BW that don't quite point definitively to one thing, etc), we did opt to start an AB right away and take things on a day-to-day basis. If her kidney values are still yucky after next week's follow-up (and hopefully we'll have a sterile sample this time), we'll move on to x-rays and/or ultrasounds to see what's what.

In the meantime, Trix does act is as if nothing at all is wrong, which is why we've stayed on the course vetty prescribed two weeks ago. So, I really don't know. I think our vetty is more suspicous of a kidney stone as opposed to an infection, but no on can say for 100% sure since we don't have anything fully conclusive just yet.

Back to work!!

I never thought I'd be so obsessed with cat food! I'm glad that Trixie is enjoying her fuds so much. It's nice to see them relish eating, like they should :-D . It so sweet she is stalling...erm I mean snuggling with her bean before work ;-) . I hope your day goes fast so you can get home to the furkids and DH soon, Happy Caturday!

Hi Amy,
Good luck with the .25 dosecrease. I think that is the best option. It is so great that Trixie likes her new fuds and that she is feeling good. Now all you have to do is get the insulin in sync with the foods (well, almost all!!).

Have a great day.

Re: 3/15 Trixie AMPS 293 +2.5 299 +4 236

Flat yellow days make those patience pants feel really uncomfortable, don't they? Just remind yourself, "at least they aren't pink!" Good luck with the dosecrease.

Glad to see that Trixie is her radiant self. It makes it so much easier to deal with all this when our kitty seems to be feeling okay and is eating, etc. Hope your work day goes quickly and you can get back home for more snuggling! :-D

Hi Amy,
Good luck with the dosecrease tomorrow!
It's great Trixie got her flat back even in a wrong color.
Just a bit more juice, and she'll do her green flat again, right Trixie?
