Yesterday was.... ALPHA day (UGH, a thousand times over),and RECOVERY DAY in MannieLand. It was nasty.... I had so hoped I wold never ever see a black BG again, let alone a "HI" one... but there they were in in deep dark and intense black.   On the good side, he didn't stay there long, made the yellows and the pinks by cycle's end. :-D :-D :-D I hope for a good day today, more blues would be so cool! Mannie - here's to you, some very strong feel better, be blue vines. Lubs ya big guy! cat_pet_icon

VETTY NEWS: I received a phone message for the IM vetty yesterday. She wants to add the amplodopine back into Mannie's med mix, for his High BP. We will be starting at half the original dose, or at .625mg once a day. These pills are mega small, and to try and quarter them will be more than in interesting... I have been told that I can have them compounded, but dang it - they use cherry syrup! uhhhhh.... no. I don't think so. I will have to check around on that, see if there is an alternative. Anyways - will see how I do, and will be adding this in a few days, when I can be home to monitor him. Mannie is to go back for a recheck on his potassium levels and his BP in two weeks. Dang... this is getting expensive! I may have to give up my morning ~O) !!!

All in well in MannieLand. :-D :-D Yesterday was DGS day. Mannie was camped out at the top of the stairs when Nicholas arrived in the morning. It was nice to seen that. Nicholas let loose with one of his "Man-NIE!'s" and proceeded to pet him very gently. It is so cine to see the gentle. Mannie was a good sport, went all squinty eyed and purred a little for Nicholas. Way cool. It was a very wet day her in the PNW, with winds to match. I offered Mannie outdoor sniffs, but he elected to poke his nose through the door opening, and sniff from there. I really don't blame him. It was off to his bed and the nanners after that. ;-) ;-) Appy has been good (picky !!!, but good), CPC yesterday and this morning, LB is normal, Ketones tests have been negative. Test was good this morning, as was the shoot. I am happy to say one more time: Normalcy in MannieLand. :-D

Have a great day everyone! I am back on DGS duty for the rest of the week. Today will be a travel/outdoor day for Nicholas. Paws crossed on the weather, as I hope we can get some outdoor time, I just don't know where yet ..... I hope to visit condos when time permits, it is so tough to do while he is here. I will miss you guys! Think blue, think green kitties! And the drainage work in the yard continues.... just like yesterday I so wish they'd finish..... go contractors! Good news though: the trench for the drainage system on the back side of the house now runs the whole length of the back and is 4 feet deep.  ;-) YaHOO! Yahoo? well maybe....

Hey everybody! What's up????? I thinks it is time for a ...... ROAD TRIP! Sunny skies, sunny days... and off we go. maybe visit some really cool fishin' holes as we go. We could have a fish cookout with all that we catch. I've got lots of niptinis and micro-brews. Bring anything else that you want. What'd'ya think? You guys in? Let me know - I am ready fore anything!~~ Mannie

OT: Here's the Picassa link to the photos from DGS, DD and my adventure yesterday: Swimming. Picassa also uploads the videos. so... look for the picture with the little triangle in the corner (usually upper left?) that indicates video. More often than not they are at the end (maybe), and Picassa doesn't rotate them, so sorry on the sideways viewing... anyways - here's the link: SWIMMING! nad one from DGS at home: Nicholas and Big Bird

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321 ~ vet update

Nice start for Mannie!!!

Check with Drs Foster and Smith about compounding the amplodipine. I used to have Mario's compounded into "animelts" there. They were ultra-tiny little pills, too, and they were appropriately flavored with chicken. If I remember correctly, they had all sorts of flavor options. They can also do the amlodapine as a transdermal gel and kitty treats. I don't know if they can do any sort of liquid, though, or if they did I don't know if it would be diabetic friendly. I loved Drs Foster and Smith for Mario's meds - they were very quick to turn around, and the most reasonably priced pet pharmacy that I could fine.

However, I also did quarter the human amlodapines for him, too. You need a good pill cutter, and expect to lose a few, so be sure you have extras on hand!

I hear ya on the expenses...I went through the frequent BW and BP checks with Mario, and now, after such a short break, it's starting all over again with Trix and her probable CKD....it's frustrating, but what can you do, since they are the furry little loves of our lives!

Have a great day, Michelle!

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321 ~ vet update

Morning Amy ~O) ~O) ~O)

Thank you for the suggestions. I will look into Drs Foster and Smith - I remember you mentioning them when I first started with the BP meds for Mannie. Those tiny little pills are next to impossible. It would be really great if I could get a trans-dermal gel that would work... He just gets to the point where he tires of me shoving "extras" in his mouth. Has been ever since his P''titis. Have the pill cutter... And I know on the having extras - first go around I mutilated alot of those pills... and I know too: on the expense. What do you do, but find a way. he's my best buddy, one has to take car of him, help him feel OK. Thanks so much for your input!! :-D

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321 ~ vet update

You probably have to actually call Fosters and Smith about all the options...I don't know what all they have listed on their website. I never used the gel, but I called and asked them if they had one at one point, because Mario had briefly decided he was sick of pill pockets. They told me they could do it, but that's as far as I got with it, because buying a fresh bag of PPs "cured" Mario!

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321 ~ vet update

Hi Amy - ok, will do. I have one of their catalogs, and will see what is what there. I know on the PP's too... Mannie tires of them easily.

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321 ~ vet update

Hoping that the new meds work for him, and am wishing for him to give you better #s today and every day. Hang in there, girl. :YMHUG:

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321 ~ vet update

Good luck with the new meds!! We have a compounding pharmacy here in town that we used to use before Tarragon had FD. He was on valium for awhile for spraying and they compounded it into a tuna flavor juice. It does get expensive though huh? Big hugs for you. You are a great bean. Too cool on Nicholas and Mannie. They are both so sweet to eachother. Have a great day Michelle!

ROADTRIP!!! It's gonna be 80 here today and we have some cool fishing places. Pick me up k? - T

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321 ~ vet update

Morning Angela ~O) ~O) ~O) Many thanks - so do I! Hoping to leave the pink floor soon.

Morning Melissa ~O) ~O) ~O) THX on the meds. I think I need to contact my pharmacy here too. There just has to be options.... THX too on Mannie and DGS - they really are quite the pair. :-D

Mr T!! YOU GOTS IT! Cool on your place - we will go then. On my way to picks you up!~~ Mannie

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321 ~ vet update

Morning Michelle, so glad you heard from the IM Vet and gettting Mannie's meds in order. I hope a workable solution to the amplodopine med can be worked out. Sounds like you're getting some good help from Amy. Do you rmember what Mannie's b/p was with the decision to start meds. I think Mags is getting close to needing them, too. I have to check on it this week. Nice hearing about DGS and Mannie time in the mornings and sweet with Mannie greeting you top of the stairs. Have a great time with DGS today.
Mannie, many thanks for the Triple Espressos and oh boy scones and croissants, my fav.

Mannie, road trip sounds great and stopping along the way for the sights and eating, too. See ya saem spot, Mags

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321, +2 417 ~ vet update

For really tiny pills, I use my fingernail to cut them, as a pill cutter will just mutilate it. How about taking one pill adding water and melting it, then give half the liquid to him? Would that work?

Hey Mannie,

What up Dawg?! hee hee, I'm trying out my kewl voice! What do you think am I kewl or what and you better not say or what! ;-)

I think today is a perfect yacht day! And if you bring your new friend Big Bird, I have a wonderful uniform, err outfit for him to wear. Do you think the mini bean will let you have Big Bird for the day? We can tie a serving tray to his tail and he can give us flying appys. Doesn't that sound like fun.

It's supposed to be sunny and warm at The Falls and my yacht is just waiting for a party!

Bon voyages -- whoo hoo let's set sail.

Signed Maui the Magnificent, always up for a party

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321, +2 417 ~ vet update

Good Morning, Guys,

Oh, how I used to hate splitting pills into quarters (Stu's meds). It's almost impossible to be consistent. And then, they were so small, you couldn't really tell if they got into him or not. I hope that you will find the best solution and still be able to afford your ~O) ~O)! Fingers and paws crossed.

Mannie Barista, thank you so much for the ~O) ~O) . It is wonderful! You have a much better AMPS this morning and hopefully you'll be blue soon.

Michelle, It's good that they are making progress in your yard with the drainage project. Just think how much better things will be when they finally finish. I guess they can work in the rain? Big Bird is as big as Nicholas! The swim pics are great. It's nice that he has lots of other children there to play with.

Have a fine day. I hope the weather will permit a good hike to one of your favorite rivers.

Ella & Rusty

Hi Mannie, Road trip with fishin' sounds great. I'll bring some salsa to have on the grilled fish. See ya soon,
Rusty

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321, +2 417 ~ vet update

Paws crossed that it's all good with adding the medication back. We all want Mannie feeling good.
I tho't compounding drugs meant customizing. Seems that would mean they could take out the cherry stuff.
Hope you find a good solution without breaking the bank. ( oh wait, aren't they all already broken? :? )
Keep it normal Mannie.

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321, +2 417 ~ vet update

Good luck adding the BP meds back on. I too thought that the whole point of compounding was to customize. You've gotten some good options offered already.

Have a fun day w/ Nicholas, mo matter where you go. Big Bird? I need to go check.

Mannie! Fishing??!!!!! flip_cat flip_cat I's ready! -- Tess

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321, +2 417, +4 346 ~ vet update

Wishing you guys good luck with the new meds...and hoping for some nicer numbers for Mannie boy!! Hugs!

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321, +2 417, +4 346, +9 415 ~ vet updat

415 @ +9. Darn it - back to the reds.... Yellow Mannie, yellow! ;-)

Hi Ann - Me too on the IM vet. So new a new med,we ll not new actually, but back in the mix. I so hope it helps with the lingering issues. :-D Me too on the Amplodpine, and yes on Amy. I am grateful, as I know she's been through the high BP stuff. First BP dX number was 220. SO it is down some, but not nearly enough. One of the eds he gets should also be addressing that, but it appears that it s not enough. she is also being cautious, and going with half his original dose. Smart move I think. They consider top of the range, when under stress, that is acceptable to be 160/180. THX too on DGS! A fun day!
Auntie Ann! - you is so welcome! I'm thinking of adding bagels. What'd'\ya think? ~~ Mannie, kitteh barista

Hi Hillary - hmmm - will give that fingernail thing a try... these pills are so so small! Maybe hat would help. Yes on the water thing too. That might work too. I will have to see hoe well they mix up. Good idea.

Hi Ella - oh yes on the yard. Work is tedious, alot by hand, and just takes time. But it is coming along. Once section done, water line in, next section being worked on. And yes: they are there monsoon or not. None of those guy seem to mind either.... Thanks on the pics . An yes, big Bird is as big as nicholas . He used to be my sons, and I held onto him when Matt outgrew him. THX - rains held off, so we were off to the river. What a GREAT FUN day it was too. Nicholas had such good fun, came home muddy and dirty, with the biggest smile on his face. AWESOME! an BIG YES on those darn pills! LOL: Sure don't want to give up my morning ~O) so we will find a way...
Auntie Ella! THX - I kinds blew it and went the wrong way, but I will be blue later - I SWEAR!!!! And you is so welcome on the ~O) You nee more? ~~ Mannie, kitteh Barista

Hi Rhiannon - Me too on the meds... such a guessing game with him, and what an effort to get it right, so he can be better. paws crossed! Well, yes on the word compounding. I just know that was the phrasing the vet used, now what I need done. so we will check... all a new game for me. :? I so hope I can find somersetting that will be FD friendly... LOL on the bank - So true! :-D

Hi Ann - Many thanks! yes on compounding... I guess I have options with that. I so need to do some homework!  I get he feeling this will involve some trial and error. ;-) THX onDGS! River time, and it was so fun!! YUPP on Big Bird - photos on the link in Mannie' opening post. :-D

Hi Pat - Many thanks - I hope so too. What a juggling act this is getting to be. Mannie's been good as gold, and does his best to take it all in stride...

Tess - YUPP! FISHING!! and i LIKES your hat! I need one of those! See ya in a few!~~ Mannie

Rusty - OOOOOOOOO! Salsa! Excellent idea! Picks you up soon - road trippin' and fishin' to do. And Maui is having a yacht party after that. SWEET!~~ Mannie

Maggie - very cool then, and off we go! Picks you up at the curb! ~~ Mannie

Maui - heeheehee on your kewl voice - I likes it! I dunno on Big Bird... that tiny human has him under one arm and bear under the other. I will see if he will let him come and play! I like the yacht thing! We will be there for sure. OOOOOOOOOOOOO! Yachting! Tess can pay the titanic lady! ~~ Mannie

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321, +2 417, +4 346, +9 415 ~ vet updat

Hi Michelle

Rats on Mannie going back on the BP meds, those pills are a pain. Molly takes them, and sometimes they are "weak" enough I can crack them with my thumb nails, or else DH can do it Compounding it into a little treat sounds like a neat idea, especially the tuna fish flavor!

It's great to hear that Nicholas has fun getting all wet and muddy and dirty! So many kids don't even know how to PLAY anymore! I hope you are off having a great time today - too cold and windy for us to venture out, although Leo will poke his nose up to the screen.

Lisa

Re: 3/14 Mannie AMPS 321, +2 417, +4 346, +9 415 ~ vet updat

I hope adding the BP med back helps bring Mannie's BP back to normal range. Good luck managing all of Mannie's meds. I hope Mannie comes back down soon.

Re: 3/14 Mannie PMPS 532 ~ vet update

the hyper t pills were that tiny and Syd got a quarter twice a day, it was challenging to break them apart and using a knife only crumbled them and the pill cutter was too big, so I tried my fingernail and I had better control on breaking it into 4's.

Oh Mannie, if you make bagels, you will have to make a variety of styles and the flavored cream cheese to go with it. Will you have the time and space to make all that? You may want to expand with danish and breakfast sammys as it may be easier to sell....just a thought - from Auntie Hill bean

Re: 3/14 Mannie PMPS 532 ~ vet update

532 @ PMPS.   ohmygod_smile not much to say wit that pmps, short of: I hope he comes down slowly....

Hi Lisa - It is so good to hear from you! I hope you ad Leo are doing well. I had hope we could avoid the BP meds, but I guess not. They are a pain, those pills. Well we shall try splitting, see how that goes, while we check out compounding into a treat or whatever else sounds like it will work. ;-) THX on Nicholas: I so agree on kids not knowing how to play these days. We go, have fun, and do not care how dirty or muddy or wet we get. He is such a typical little boy, loves being out, so why not let him just do that. Bummer on your weather - hope it gets better!

Hi Carla - THX, I hope so too. We were getting there before when I had to stop it. Maybe this in combo wit the other stuff will get him back to feeling better. Paws crossed. THX too on the better numbers- me too!

Hi Hillary - I will give it a try - why not? Agreed on the knife and the pill cutter: been through that too. ;-) aiyeeee.....
Auntie Hilary! OH! I hadn't thoughts of that. You are right - I'd have to have different kinds, and then all the cream cheese. I may meaty it before I delivered it, and that would be bad.. I like the danish thing! Cool! Maybe cheese danish.... OOOO! breffis sammys! hmmmmm.... ~~ Mannie, kitteh barista
