I can't win for trying here, lately. Spent a long 10-hour day with my senior friend playing chauffeur, assistant, maid, and nurse and got home just in time to get Taffy's T/F/S done. Then, while I was doing other cat chores and dishes, etc., here at home, Taffy got to Baby's dry AGAIN, because I forgot to put away before I got up, AGAIN. (I also left the stove on earlier, with the tea kettle on low, when rushing out to leave.)

See, Baby has to have company when he eats, or he will walk away. And he never eats an entire meal in one dish visit. It's multiple visits and it's his little game. So we feed him over by the couch and the TV so that we can relax in the evening and keep an eye on him and the food. If we have to get up and leave the room, we put his food in the ottoman footrest to keep it away from Taffy. I have a very bad habit of getting busy and walking away without doing this, especially in the mornings when I am groggy and trying to get everything done to get out the door. Usually, I remember in almost the nick of time and Taffy only gets a few kibbles before I shoo him away. Tonight, I am exhausted, and i completely spaced, and Taffy ate quite a bit of kibble. It is medium-ish carb and not the worst worst, but still...

I sure wish I could get Baby to eat what Taffy eats, because clearly I can't seem to keep screwing up.[/URL]

Sorry about the raid.
I know is baby is a kibble addict, have you tried the young again? I believe that's LC so then if taffy gets into it it won't be such a big deal.
 
Yes, I was so excited about it, I tried it the first week Taffy was dx'd. Seemed like a perfect solution, right? Wrong. They both ate it at first and I followed the directions and only gave a small amount due to the richness of the product. I thought they liked it and it was going to be awesome...but, then they both got tummy aches and the worst smelly diarrhea ever. And, then, they wanted nothing to do with it after that. I tried it again several times. No go. I think that some cats just can't do pork. phooey! They don't like the EVO kibble either. I have Orijen right now, which is medium, and at least about half the carbs of the stupid Rx food he used to eat.

Julie, please don't beat yourself up! You are the best most devoted mama bean to your fur babies. Stuff happens. We should expect it a little, right?

I don't know what you have done in the past and we know ECID, but here is a friendly offering of suggestions:

1. I know you mentioned Baby is a kibble-a-holic, but have you tried/considered weaning Baby off dry and getting to wet? Most of us on this board can probably attribute our cats FD to eating some dry food so long term it seems like the best solution. For us, we tried adding small amounts of wet mixed in with dry and then over time reducing the dry and increasing the wet until a full transition.

2. If Baby just won't go for wet food, maybe you can try giving less feedings and monitoring the meals you can. For example- feed Baby what Baby will eat in one sitting and then remove all the food. If Baby didn't eat enough, Baby will be more hungry at next feeding (s) and will likely eat more/a fuller meal. This process ideally should convince Baby to eat all his food at the timed monitored feeding so that Baby gets a full meal. Since Baby is a civvie, you have less worries about feeding multiple small meals throughout day/evening as you are not so worried about stabalizing BG in a non-diabetic cat. Baby will learn to eat more during one feeding and then you can remove the bowl and not worry about Taffy's kibble raids. If you are home more or on the weekends, you can give Baby some more monitored meals if desired.
