Sid seemed to be doing really will on the 1.8 dose of prozinc for the almost 3 days he was on it. Then last night I was gone for a few hours and came home to find him at 47. I gave him a tsp of HC and he then spiked up 100 pts in 30 minutes. Poor guy. Now he is 533. I put his dose back to 1.6 this morning.

Last night, he had a 0.9 reading on the ketone meter - which is the lowest it has ever been. Also negative on the urine strip.

Yay for no ketones !!! I wish you much luck with the new dose.
Come back down, nice and easy, now, Sid.

I'm presuming you hadn't given any R? (Sid's SS isn't up to date so I couldn't tell.)

I hope this means that the infection is clearing.

That's wonderful news on the ketone and urine tests. I'm sorry to hear about the low #. You did great in bringing Sid back. The HC wet will wear off quicker than a kibble would. Hang in there. You are both doing great!

Sidster!!! a 47???

and no ketones???

this sounds good to me, but let's not become a bouncy boy, buddy-
momma's working hard already!

love and healing thoughts for you...

Hi Lydia,

I'm glad to see the negative/0.9 on the ketones! :-D Good catch on the 47, Sid does love to dive sometimes! Good luck with the reduction.

If you want to be more aggressive on dose to deal with the ketones, you may need to feed HC to control the drops and keep him from going too low.

I know you are at work now, when you get a chance, can you update his SS please?

Hi guys .. yay for no ketones! Boo for jumping so high .. but we know these numbers should come down .. hopefully sooner then later.. have a great day!

I updated Sid's SS.
Tonight he had the lowest reading on the ketone meter - 0.6. Still negative on the urine strip.

@Laurie, I've been feeding Sid 9Lives chicken which he loves. It is not the best food but there is no rice in the ingredients or potatoes. I did the values on 2 different cat food calculators and came up with 3.5%. Binky's has it listed as 4%. Is that considered high? Actually it just occurred to me that I should run the authority flavors he likes too.

Thank you for updating the SS. Yay on the 0.6 on the ketone meter! I bet you are happy to see that going down, I sure am! :-D I don't know how you manage to balance his issues so well...my hat's off to you. Of course he bounced from the 47...I hope he clears that soon.

Four percent is low carb, anything up to 10% is considered LC. MC is usually between 11-15%, HC is 16% and up. I don't know about Authority, I looked before and didn't see it on any of the lists...I'd be curious to see what it is though. Can you post the results if you figure it out? Weren't you using a gravy food that isn't on the lists too? I'd be curious to see what the carb % is on those.

Keep up the good work!

great news on the ketone tests, lydia! 47 isn't so awful - if the little guy would just flatten out a bit. the bounce will clear.

i'm so glad laurie has the experience with PZI to be able to help you with this. you guys are a great team!

Ouch on the high bounce--I think Sid and Mookie bounced at the same time. Maybe they were holding paws! No ketones is great news, of course. I hope you're taking good care of yourself, Lydia. :YMHUG: from us.

Lydia....great news on the ketones!! Good catch on that low number.

I've been using Wellness Core chicken, liver, turkey 8% lately for low numbers and really like it...and so does Gracie. It's grain free.

More healing vines to Sid.

Laurie, I've been testing the food calculator on some other foods. Before I test the results, I have to check a couple more things because I don't want to give inaccurate information. It is saying that a gravy food is only 2% carbs - the one I thought was high carb...

Randa, I bet Sid and Mookie were holding paws. He was low but very happy :-D

Julie, you are right, 47 is not a bad number and if he would just be predictable so I know he isn't dropping a lot more then I would feel a lot better. :-D

Marje, my cats aren't fans of Wellness unfortunately. I've tried different varieties of it now and then and they leave it in the bowl. Now Sid does like to vary things - for example he used to eat fancy feast like crazy and now he won't touch it - so I may try the Wellness again if he starts getting picky and see if he likes it.
