I thought things were improving again yesterday. Oh well, maybe this cycle will be better again.
I'm having an awful time getting Eleanor to eat, again. She acts hungry, doesn't like what I have down for her, I give her something else, she either walks away or takes a couple bites and walks away. I boiled some chickem, am going to crumble some of that over her food at +2 and see if she might eat the food too. She ate a few bites at shot time but it was so little. I need to go to Petsmart and see if I can get more variety, but the bus drivers are on strike and I can't get anywhere right now.

Good Afternoon Julie and Sweet Eleanor!

A bounce can last up to 3 days - this is probably just a continuation of yesterday afternoon.

No idea on the food...trying other things is a good first step. She's just being a cat that's feeling more LIKE a cat now that she's got insulin!

HUGS!!!

We think that Zener not eating is worse than high BGs. Have you ever tried pepcid or zantac with Eleanor? We started with 2.5 mg of pepcid (1/4 of a 10 mg pill) and then switched to 1/8 of a zantac because Anne read that it helps with motility as well as the stomach acid. We put it in a tiny bit of pill pocket (duck and pea flavor doesn't have sugar). We also sprinkle a little fortiflora on his food when his appetite is flagging. He seems to like the taste of that.

Eleanor has had acid stomach issues for years, I give her 1/4 of a Pepcid when that gets bad. Should I try giving that every day? And the Zantac, is that 1/8 of a 150mg tab? I take Zantac but mine is 300mg. How often?
I haven't been able to afford the Fortiflora yet.
Her not eating worries me with the insulin etc etc.

I hope someone comes on to give you the correct dose of Zantac, I'm not familiar with it for kitties.

I didn't know this

, learn something new every day for sure!

Julie did you try holding the dish for her and and see if she eats while you hold it. I get Daphne to eat more that way.

We use the 75 mg tablets so that's about 10 mg of zantac. The Target brand is ranitidine and it's about 1/3 the cost of zantac. We give that dose twice a day (2.5 mg of pepcid or 10 mg of zantac) although you might want to start with once a day to see if that's enough. I'll put some envelopes of fortiflora in the mail to you. You'll probably get it on Thu. Then you can give it a try to see if it works for Eleanor. Zener likes it but our civie Tillie thinks it's disgusting.

ETA: I put in some 75 mg zantac tablets too so you can try those if you want.

one of the tricks for getting a crunchies-addicted cat to switch to canned food is to crush dry food and sprinkle it on the wet. you don't want them to get much, but it might be worth trying. punkin and anya both love the fortiflora. i hope that helps. parmesan cheese, oregano and catnip are other things worth trying. apparently oregano and catnip are in the same botanical family.
