Daily fluids can sometimes really help cats get past the pancreatitis, if he does okay with them.

Are you doing b12 injections? Those also can help, especially with energy levels.

Thank you THH. Well we were doing 1 injection a week. But then..... I can't remember exactly. Seems it was recommended on this board to buy B12 capsules from vitacost and put them in his food. That didn't work well, he wouldn't eat it. I forgot to go back to injections.

I still have a B12 vial, says give 0.25 ml once weekly. If that would help him, seems one extra injection a week wouldn't be too much of an insult. This vial is from 6-10-2020 and does not appear to have an expiration date. What do you think? Usable?

I think that's usable. B12 injections can be more helpful for cats with GI issues that could affect absorption of B12 pills, since it bypasses the GI system completely.

Great, I will give him some.

I am not sure if I need to give him fluids today. His fur is moving back pretty quickly. The vet nurse, the other day, said he was "somewhat dehydrated" meaning not too bad. But the fur didn't move fast. Do you think one more time of giving fluids would be overdoing it?

If yes then I will give him the B12 shot then.

I usually err on the side of giving fluids if the cat tolerates them okay and doesn't have a heart issue. Especially with pancreatitis, the fluids can sometimes be helpful even if the cat isn't noticeably dehydrated.

Thanks THH. My sense is, at least one more time. Then see if skipping a day is right. We did pretty well yesterday (on the third try). It was a matter of trust. He is always my teacher.

Cats (and people) with IBD aren't always able to absorb b12 through the intestines, so I would probably try the injections with him.

Hi THH,

I cannot thank you enough. Squeaky has certainly perked up today. Was alert, followed me around the house, did tricks, and even played well this evening. I didn't give him the B12 injection yet. But I did give him fluids, it was 3 days in a row.

Do you think he will continually need fluids? How can I judge that?

Thank you again. I spent this morning's entire medicine routine, crying. I can't seem to stop crying when he doesn't do well. Then I can't think clearly after that. So your coaching has really been helpful.

@Bandit's Mom Are you there? What do you think about this.....
So he was 164 PS tonight. I bet he will bounce and feel lousy again tomorrow. So if I test him once tonight, I'm not sure if it should be at +2 or +6. He has the potential to go below 90 either time.

If he's tolerating the fluids well and they're helping, I would continue them daily until he has several good days in a row.

Thank you so much! He's a different cat now, back to being himself. It really worked! I cannot thank you enough. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Do you agree with my vet, that once it is perforated, the Ringers solution should be discarded after 14 days?

I've never been told that... if you're giving fluids daily though, you should be finishing the bag before 14 days is up.
