I wasn't able to post updates the last couple of days. Yesterday I went looking for the U100 syringes and the Walmart near me did not have the ones with half unit markings. I called the other Walmart before going in there and they also did not have what I needed, I also would need a perscription if I wanted more than two bags of ten. So I went online and found UltiCare VetRx half unit U100 syringes here and ordered a box. They should be here in the next couple of days.

This is what Jose looked like yesterday and today

I just made an appointment for tomorrow morning with Jose's vet to talk to her about all the home testing I've been doing. I never told her I was starting. I'm not sure what to expect and am a little nervous. I really like her and I don't want her to think I don't trust her. I feel a little guilty not letting her know I started to home test. Any words of wisdom?

You can be honest and tell her you were really scared to give Jose a shot without knowing what his numbers were. You found it was really easy (and very reassuring) to test. I would take along the spreadsheet and show her. She can't argue with success!

And she should be grateful. If you had just continued to give 4 units blindly, Jose would have hypoed several times over.

I found the thing that helped me (even though I liked my vet very much, we had to agree to disagree on food)was to remember that he was my cat, I was his best advocate and everything I did was to keep him safe. :-D

So you know, just about all the Walmart pharmacies will tell you they don't have syringes with 1/2 U markings. Their clerks don't know any better, unless they said they were OUT of them, which could be. If they told you they don't carry them, they are either lying or stupid. This has happened to several people on the boards. Many have had to open the box and prove it to the clerk. (including me) It doesn't say 1/2 unit markings on the box. But if you tell them, Relion Insulin Syringes, 3/10ml-cc, 31 gauge, 8mm-5/16-short needle, in the PURPLE STRIPE box, you WILL get the 1/2 unit markings.

The first time I bought them, I went thru the same thing with a stupid clerk, who swore up and down, there was NO 1/2 unit marks on the syringes. When I gave her the handwritten numbers, like above, she was able to find them. It's just because it's NOT on the box. I paid for them, opened one of the little bags inside and SHOWED her the markings. Now when I get them, I take an empty bag with me to get more. I hand it over saying, "I need a box of these." Each bag holds 10 syringes and there are 10 bags in the box.

The only reason I'm giving you this info, is to save you money. You may be better off than me and not care about the few $$ difference.. I have to save every penny. These are less than $13 a box. $12 and change. I wish $5-10 didn't make a difference to me, but it does.

Hope whatever you get, works out for you.

You know, I had suspected they had no idea what I was talking about. Especially the guy I talked to over the phone who eventually hung up on me. I just got sick up dealing with people and ordered them online. I really would like to save that extra money as well. I always shop around for the best prices when I need to get supplies. I only ordered one box of 60 online so when those are close to being out Ill go back walmart. Thanks for the info!

Any reason why your vet won't give you a prescription for syringes? They could call it in to Walmart.

I thought, only getting 2 bags at a time would have you making a lot of trips to Walmart. But heck, most people are in Walmart more often than every 10 days already. Since I get my cat food, litter and medical stuff at Walmart anyway, I'm there about once a week. If I had to buy syringes 2 bags at a time, it wouldn't make for any extra trips for me.

Jose sure has been running in some good numbers, nice to see.
