Morning LL. I liked how today started, but her infamous food spike or panicky liver.

Previous Condo

WCR: bcatrun_gif She was feelin' good this morning! Both DH and I were trying to figure out if we heard her sneeze at all yesterday. I know I didn't last night and I don't think I did yesterday morning. DH doesn't think he heard a sneeze either. So maybe...

Today is Oreo's 13th birthday and 2 year FD DX annifursary. While none of us wish FD on our kittehs, I am happy that I found all of you because of it. She is much more healthy now than 2 years ago - no longer emaciated and hiding under the bed all the time. She looks like a "normal" cat and is fiesty, frisky and has cleaning fests with civvie Harley. That is because of all of you wonderful people here who have taught me how to take care of her. Granted, we didn't start on Lantus and here until 8/31, better late than never!

Just want to tell you that I think Oreo is VERY pretty. Cool nose. I can't see her very well in your avitar though. Since it's a special day, will you post a bigger picture so we can see her up close?

Happy Annifursary! And thank you for sharing another wonderful success story. It's always great to hear about another kitty made healthy by the angels here...and that includes the hard-working, dedicated mama bean.

Well, now, a birthday AND an annifursery all in one! Happy day to Both of you!! You both are truly blessed to have found each other.

Ok, emailed the vet about bloodwork before dental since the sneezing has seemed to stop and asked about getting Levemir. Here is the answer:

The insulin change may be a risky one and the fructosamine level is the best evaluation of long term control. If things are working well on the Lantus, it's hard to say that the Levemir would be better. If it's a matter of expense, than that is a different argument and should certainly be a consideration.
I have no pets on Levemir and therefore have no history/confidence to contribute to the change idea.

So, if I rememer correctly the Lev is usually cheaper which is why so many high dose kitties go with it. I also sent him what Jill posted and the petwiki on it. Does anyone have anything else I can take in? I know Heather and Jasper switched and Jasper is now OTJ. Who else switched and the spreadsheet shows improvement? That might be some ammo... Or anything else anyone can think of.

Oh, and no I'm not leaving LL if we switch :smile: Nope, no way, no how, you can't make me :mrgreen:

Anyway...will update numbers when I get home.

Hi Jen...spot was on N before we switched to Lev, so I don't know if his ss would help. Why did I switch....beside those crazy Pittsburgh Cat Ladies continuously hounding me to switch???? A few reasons....one, I heard that it wasn't as fragile as Lantus 2) it lasted longer than lantus (I've used one cart for as long as 3 months, others have used theirs longer) 3) it was cheaper. I got 5 carts for $125 4) I was under the impression that you could pre-fill a syringe with Lev, which actually was the #1 reason I decided to go w/Lev....I work evenings sometimes and my mom has to give Spot his shot..she's 75 yrs. old and I know that she could not get the dose correct, no matter how many visual aides she had. So, there's my reasons. Don't know if this helps tho...

Oh, btw, about a month ago, I was informed that it wasn't a good idea to prefill syringes...but I had been doing it for over a year and a half and saw no difference. Besides, the insulin was never in the syringe any longer than a few hours.

Sandy/Boris switched from Lantus to Lev, I think. SettleDown, but good luck getting a spreadsheet. :lol: Several of the high-dosers have switched, but that's probably not the kind of data you're looking for.

BigMac went from Vetsulin to Levemir... not what you asked about, since he didn't use Lantus, but just saying. :lol:

We are so happy for you & want you to know we have been here 2 yrs also, and are so glad to have Oreo as our friend all this time!
