Not sure if this is legit or not....I tried researching it but could not find a thread specifically about it.

So Since I have only been shooting Maki once in the morning lately, I thought maybe I could shoot her more toward noon or early afternoon each day. That way I could more reliably get +4, +6 measurements. Thoughts?

Is there harm or downsides of shooting once a day early afternoon? SO if Maki ate at 7 am, then nothing after 11 am, test at 1 pm, feed, and shoot. Then lite evening meal 7 pm. Is that going to work? Or is it really important to do the 12/12 cycle even as Maki's numbers come down?

When you can’t shoot every 12 hours safely we usually suggest taking a reduction so that you can. That would mean shooting .10 every 12 hours. The reason for this is duration of Lantus is usually 12 hours, sometimes a bit longer. What you are doing now is keeping her in nice safe numbers. If you want to try shooting a a different time that works better for you, you can try it.

ok, maybe I am missing something. I have a hard time trying to get .25 units right on the syringes. I cannot imagine trying for .1 units? I have half unit syringes.
(I tried calipers and I was not any better that way.)

Yes, Maki is in safe numbers now, but if getting her OTJ is best for her health then I need to get more 'okay' with 50, 60, 70, 80s. 90s I am okay with but under that I start getting nervous. (I think her hypo incidence cause PTHD - post traumatic hypoglycemic disorder :P)

I have read it several times over the past two months. Thank goodness for the pictures for people like me.
Very thankful for so many of the stickys. They are great references!

Lololol. If you don't say the same things, I call it more wisdom to take in. :cat:

So I wasn't planning to shoot 0330 given that I have only been shooting once a day for last week or so. But if I need to then the question is how much since Maki had only been getting .25/24 hours?

It’s what Elise said earlier in your condo about it being better find a dose to shoot safely. every 12 hours than only being able to shoot every 24 hours:

But if every 24 hours works for you...that’s great! I just wasn’t sure if you were going to try shooting every 12 hours. Mainly asking just out of curiosity on my part:)

I am chicken basically. I don't want to over shoot and not be fully aware of what's going on with Maki. Given the challenges with the recent flair, my partner just thinks it's too much in morning. In the evening it's me going to sleep early if I am not well. So a once afternoon shoot manages those challenges best and provided more likely+4, +6.

So trade off. Just not best for 12/12, depot, and insulin half life.

I think through this weekend move, I will try just 1530 (3:30 pm EDT) shoot of .25. Once we move to our tiny two rooms, and Maki settles in hopefully, then going back to 12/12 makes sense. And maybe decrease toward OTJ when I can watch for any hypo incidence.

Maybe this is a best compromise for the many factors?

I remain hopeful that simplifying our life (aka giving away lots of stuff), getting rid of our house (less worry and maintenance), and downsizing our living space to 300 sq ft will improve life for Maki and us. I hope I am not wrong.

If you decide to try every 12 hours at some point you would reduce to 0.1 and see what happens. Otherwise stick with .25 every 24 for now.
